Went in for the second time this week - big mistake. On Monday I went in and got 2 burgers (which the older guy pulled out of a pan simmering with water!) - these were wafer thin and tasteless and minimal condiments added versus what I asked for. Malt ws OK. Today I went in just for a malt and noticed a sign - as the minimum wage in Wilmette went up close to 30%, he had to raise all his prices. NOT WORTH IT and NO PARKING to speak of - park next door and you'll be booted and towed. read more

I love this Dairy Queen. I have many fond memories here, as I grew up in Wilmette, went to Loyola Academy next door and still am a North Shore resident. It's a no-frills, wonderful place, it gives me warm fuzzy feelings of nostalgia-as all dairy queens should be! This location doesn't have regular food, just ice cream. I'm ok with that! :D It makes sense to me that they close during the winter, as I'm writing this it's a full blown snowstorm outside. I love my Oreo blizzard as much as the next gal, but I'm sure the demand for frozen treats takes a nose dive in the cooler months. (I'm of firm opinion the owners retire to Hawaii-they're so busy during the summer I'm sure we've all paid the mortgage with orange Julius' and swirl cones!) As for the new parking situation....DO NOT PARK NEXT DOOR. They will boot you. The person sits in the lot laying in wait for you to park and leave your car. It is *not* Dairy Queens fault. The have posted allllllllllll over dairy queens property "do not park next door! You will be booted and fined" It is unfortunate that the owners of the strip mall (where the Starbucks is) went to this extreme, but it is what it is. You can park there after 9 pm, though. The strip mall owners, after tons of complaints said that was fine, like they're gracing us with some gift....smh. It's Dairy Queen. Not much to say. Great soft serve ice cream cones. Be wary of parking though! It's a small lot and you will get booted if you park in the Starbucks/Jimmy John's lot to the west. The owner of Chicago Parking Management literally sits in his car waiting to boot you after you head into Dairy Queen. Apparently at 9 p.m., you are allowed to park in that lot. Unfortunately for me, I parked in the half empty lot at 8:40 p.m. Don't ignore the parking warnings on DQ's windows. Otherwise you'll pay $148 for a dipped cone and a blizzard like I did. read more

Coming from a family business that saw sales increase significantly as more costumers reviewed us on Yelp, I feel it's only right to do the same for others in hope the same will happen to them. This place is great! It's family owned and operated and you can really tell how much the owners love what they are doing! Obviously the ice cream menu has something to offer to everyone and never fails to satisfy that craving. What I'm here to review about is the customer service. The line is usually out the door and around the corner to the parking lot, I'm not exaggerating. That, in and of itself, says a lot about a business. If people were really there just for the ice cream, don't you think they'd go out to the store and get it in half the time? There really is something about going to the Dairy Queen on a hot summers day that is just better than eating store bought ice cream but I think what makes a trip to this place so special is the people who run it. There is no better feeling that feeling like your the most important customer in a line of 50 and having someone dedicate just a few moments just to you to make sure your order is done right. Everything about this place is just "cool". From the old cash register drawers, to the small building, and obviously the people behind it all, it really has a nice feel to it. Way to go! read more

I like to see that some things never change, and that includes this Dairy Queen, which is the most popular spot in west Wilmette on any given summer evening. It is Dairy Queen, so you know what to expect. This place is the worst DQ I have ever been to. It's a shame such a great community like Wilmette + Glenview have this dilapidated below-standard shack to deal with. First of all, there are no benches, no water fountains, no place for patrons to enjoy their treats. If you want to eat there, sit in your car --- which isn't practical because the parking lot is miniscule. Park next door? No way Jose! They'll apparently boot your car, pronto! Waiting to order is like cramming into a cattle car with no clear lines or protocol. The screen doors open in, so make way! The portion sizes are inconsistent. I went in for a milk shake and the owner had the nerve right in front of me to throw some ingredients in a cup and then hand it to me without even putting it on a blender and then charge four dollars. It was obviously thin. Since I was not in the mood to argue with him after a long workday I took it and walked out. It was the worse milk shake I have every had. Listen. This dq sells nothing. No kids meals, nothing fried. Literally just hot dogs and burgers. The parking lot is a joke. There isn't a drive thru. No bathrooms. Every time I asked if they had ___ The cashier would say "no but there's a five guys down the road" "no but there's a Starbucks over there" I've never had a worker try so hard to get me to take my business elsewhere. My "cheeseburger" was tiny, the cheese wasn't melted. My blizzard was good but the cashier didn't flip it over before handing it to me like they are supposed to. I don't know why my kids like this place so much. The prices are too high, the service is hit or miss, the parking is difficult, and the store is too small. The answer is above. Love DQ! This Wilmette landmark has been there for decades. Very small - no place to eat inside and not much room in parking lot. It doesn't matter people lineup outside on warm summer nights. Friendly, young staff know how to make it right. Closes on the winter, with its springtime opening eagerly anticipated! My kids and I love going there!!!! read more

We visited this location on August 4, 2015. We were going to get ice cream for my birthday. Dairy Queen had a truck in the way of the entrance at the time so we pulled into the lot next to Dairy Queen, the car was running the entire time and I was sitting in the passenger seat. A lady who said that she worked for the city of Chicago put A boot on our car even though the car was running and I offered to move it to her at this point I was in the driver seat. She told me that if I moved it I would be facing consequences. In order to get the boot off the car we had to pay $130 which we shouldn't of had to pay because it was Dairy Queen's fault for blocking their own parking lot with their own vehicle. The bitch lady who claimed that she works for the city of Chicago even though we weren't in Chicago. Wouldn't take the boot off the car until we paid her $130 which we had to end up doing. When Dairy Queen was contacted they told us there was nothing they could do, even though it was completely their fault along with only having three spots in their entire parking lot and having a big truck in two of them blocking the entrance. I feel like Dairy Queen was at fault for this incident, we should've just left and got ice cream from a better location. But I wanted to Dairy Queen for my birthday. They should've had a sign posted or something to let the customers know what risk they had parking in the lot before. If they really cared about their customers they would have a sign or something even outside of Dairy Queen there should've been a sign. read more

Great place! That is, if you feel like turning back the clock decades ago to more ignorant times and order from lower IQ and backwards trolls. It's too bad I have to slam this place but the level of disrespect I faced twice in a row makes me have to. I love DQ in general. The service is the real problem here (in addition to the horrific parking situation). It's usually high school and college age kids that work here but the last 2 times I went they acted like such ignorant, uneducated bums that I was so incredibly turned off to the point I will never go back when I'm back visiting home, even if it's a perfect summer night and I am desperately craving a blizzard. Anyhow last time I was there I was with a few friends, mix of Asian and white. After I ordered I heard the 3 kids working there making ice cream make a backhanded comment about us being Asian and that was pretty much the last straw. I've dealt with plenty of this stuff throughout my life but at this point am pretty over the general backwardness and ignorance I see from time to time (thankfully less and less, especially since moving to LA). My son has peanut allergy. I explained this to the young lady who took my order. She cleaned the blender. But before she mixed my sons order another employee jumped in and mixed something. Then the person mixing our peanut aware order mixed ours. I saw this. And I questioned it. After ten minutes of arguing about was the blizzard safe from peanuts. A life or death thing.
