Really like Celtic Knot. Cozy and not too big . Like the fireplace and the appetizers, bacon wrapped dates and chips with dipping sauces were very good. For dinner my friend and I shared a plate with fish n' chips, corn beef and lamb stew GREAT. I was there in December and liked it so much that is why I brought my friend. Sticky toffee pudding was very good also. Our Server was attentive and kind. I am sorry I did not get his name. He had dark wavy hair and a baseball hat on. Hungry for fish and chips so decided to try this place out for dinner. We're glad we did. Even though it was crowded and we put our name on the list. We enjoyed ourselves at the bar and met friendly folks which made the wait shorter. The staff, host and everyone was friendly, helpful and engaging. No longer the place was crowded. The wine list is short as the irish whiskey options are long. Lot's of authentic beers. Beside the F&C I had the hamburger. 1/2 pound of burger for under $16 before add-ons. A real deal. The fries are large but decent. The real draw is how homey and welcoming you feel. We'll be back. read more

This was our first visit to the new location after many enjoyable experiences downtown. We ducked in late-night, about 10 minutes prior to the kitchen closing--the bar stays open an additional hour. The hostess was cordial and accommodating, and invited us to order food if we could be mindful of the time constraints. The new space is comfortable and inviting, the drinks menu is stout (pun intended), and the food--we ordered a few small plates--is as solid as ever. We love the Knot and will return on our next Evanston trip. read more

This is the place to go for an authentic Irish experience. The food is fantastic and the Guinness is poured just right. They also have live music a couple times a week. The staff is super friendly and the vibe is cozy and lively. read more

Went here last night for a couple drinks with old friends and it was lovely. Drinks were not too expensive. Staff was very kind and attentive. Ambiance was perfect--completely captured the irish pub vibe. They even had a man playing the guitar which really made the entire experience perfect. Good pub food, good service, and the environment is warm. I had the fish and chips (I'm a sucker for that, and if it's on the menu, I have it.) The fish was nice and crispy; the fries were excellent, and there were no mushy peas on my plate. (That's a plus.) My companion had the Crispy Salmon and it was excellent. Our server was friendly and chatty, and at the same time, was not at our table too frequently. I will definitely be going back to Celtic Knot. read more

The newly reopened "Knot" is well worth a visit. Moving north of downtown was a great idea because the congestion and parking are far less problematic. The menu has been revamped and the food is great. A great Irish trad session on Sunday afternoons is grand but get there early because it gets pretty crowded. read more

The Celtic Knot is a great neighborhood spot. In addition to drinks and food, they offer a range of activities--trivia one night, live music other nights, and there's even a stash of board games in the back if you and your group want to hang out for a while. Service is always warm and welcoming. The Irish standards are excellent (can't miss with the shepherd's pie and brown bread), but they have a range of other solid offerings too. (When it's offered, the tomato soup is a surprise stand-out.) Love supporting local businesses like this one. read more

I know the people of Evanston are super excited this place has reopened. The customers even paid into a fund to help them reopen which is astonishing in itself. With that said, the minimum you can do is not serve frozen French fries as "chips". The atmosphere is excellent! I had the Lamb Stew. Decent portion but very bland. Begorah! What a palace?! Came for lunch today. First time. The brown bread is moist and flavorful. Many (most) places "Irish" food is awful. Dry. No taste. NOT here! The lamb stew is awesome. The corned beast?! Moist, great seasoning. Fish n chips! Excellent. And fabulous burgers. As good Irish food as I've found. Some people think Irish food and British food suck. LOVE the Celtic Knot. We're so glad they moved to our neighborhood on Central Street. I always have the Corned Beef sandwich with a Guiness - but lots of other options to choose from. All food was excellent, especially the fish, it was great to chat with Patrick and Liz and the ambiance was friendly and just like being back home in our local pub in Wales. We went to the new location and I had a fried chicken sandwich. I have never had a more greasy & tough piece of meat! I could not cut it with a knife!! The bun was soggy, unripe tomato, loads of lettuce. I could not finish the chicken because it was so tough and greasy. My companion had a burger, med that was ok. The chips were good. Not sure what I can get next time that would be good, but will try once more and hope for better food. Someone also commented on how long it took just to get a beer on tap! Went here with friends Friday night. Nice new location place was packed at 5:00 the young man took our name 40 minute wait but he did let us know that everyone seated came at about same time so it might be less wait time. There is no waiting area and the bar was packed fortunately it was nice out so we decided to walk and mentioned to the host and he was so thoughtful he asked for a phone number to call when table opens up. He did and it was less wait than 40 minutes . Food is excellent and OMG best fried pickles ever so golden and delicious. Everything was amazing the corned beef is tender fish and chips were cooked to perfection and bangers and mash awesome the lamb stew was good meat tender and flavorful but I think maybe they put nutmeg in not sure but it didn't work for me. I loved this place it was warm and inviting the entire staff was attentive and friendly and all around great place. There is no place to wait and that's why only 4 stars cause in cold weather the no wait area could be problematic. Please check this place out you can tell they put real love and care from the food to the servers to the host. Excellent and definitely try the fried pickles!!! They are back and boy it feels good! We were there on the first Saturday night in the new spot on Central Avenue. The food is just as good as before and the owners have upped the quality of the presentation. Several of the staff from the prior location have returned and their experience shows. Nice vibe, ample bar area and not too loud for as full as the restaurant was. A great restaurant has returned to Evanson. read more
