Vibes of Dairy Queen but higher quality in a small town. You know what place is worthy to go to if there's a line for food every moment it's open. We came for a family float/ canoe trip and decided Dairy Shack was somewhere we had to stop. Partly due to the fact we brought our dog but we didn't need to worry since Dairy Schack has only outdoor seating aka dog friendly. All of us ordered and didn't leave a crumb of the burgers and fries. I specifically ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and the better half got the Quarter Pound burger.

I don't even know where to begin. If you're a kid of the 80s or 90s, this will send you down memory lane. The burgers you used to get at your local pharmacy or at Woolworths are just like how they're served here. Get yourself a milkshake and you're in heaven. The menu is extensive, prices are reminiscent of the past, and the service is great. This is a spot all the locals frequent, and with good reason. Seating is set off to the side under a big pavilion, which is nice and shady. Overall, I'd come back to this part of Missouri just for the Dairy Shack.

We absolutely love this place!! From the burgers to chicken sandwiches, to fries and ice cream...it's ALL fantastic, here!! We are always greeted with a smile and a warm welcome, which is awesome! Quick service with a smile is the norm, here, so you should definitely make the trip.

Walk up window to order. There was always a line when we drove by but it moved fast enough when we ate there. Find a seat on the side and they call your name when your order is ready. They called us for our drinks first then the food a couple minutes later. Everything was fresh and hot. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich with tater tots and no complaints. They did get the toppings on my wife's burger wrong and we didn't try to correct it. We topped it off with an avalanche (DQ Blizzard equivalent) which did not disappoint. Parking is a little challenging because of the crowd, but not impossible.

And the coffee is also roasted locally. So yeah, this was a pretty neat stop in very rural Missouri as we're headed across on US-60 from the one side to the next. After seated, we took a look at the menu. Options for both of us were easy. Mrs. K. is a connoisseur of French Toast. As she doesn't eat meat, this is her usual "go to" for breakfast so that was her easy choice at The Ranch House this morning. Me, I'm on keto so I was able to have their three-egg omelet with all the veggies plus added steak sausage. Coffee arrived first and it was excellent. Just a simple drop, it was rich and hot and perfection. A little bit later, breakfast arrived. I very much enjoyed the omelet as it was tasty. I could really taste the eggs in here today. Yum! Mrs. K. said "This is the best French Toast that I have ever had" and that's really saying something as she's enjoyed dozens if not a couple hundred portions across my Yelp career. Wow. Breakfast was around $40 with tip. And afterward, we wandered around the small town of Van Buren for a bit. A truly lovely stop. [Review 669 of 2026 - 523 in Missouri - 25850 overall]

Beef bacon was a little disappointing (way overcooked) and the biscuits and gravy didn't seem particularly 'homemade.' The coffee however was GREAT! When I contacted the owner, told him I was misled by the description on the menu, was very disappointed in an $18 HAMBURGER on fake potatoes, he simply said he was sorry I felt that way, so sad. He said that was one of his best sellers. All I can say is his clientele must not have much to choose from. I'll NEVER go back there again. I sure miss the previous owners who cared what they served and how people liked it.
