Stopped by Jolly Cone On The Current and ordered two cheeseburgers, fries, and root beers. The service was quick, which was a plus, but the food was underwhelming. The cheeseburgers were average at best, with dry buns that didn't seem very fresh. The fries were decent, but nothing standout. TLDR: If you're driving by and you want something better than McDonald's or Subway, then this is the best place to stop!!! I drive from TN to MO often and I have stopped here many times when I am coming through van buren, specifically for a banana split or a cherry sprite which are both great. The food is good and worth the stop! This little joint is the most authentic Van Buren experience you're going to get! The reason I am truly writing this review is because we made a routine stop today and my little 18mo old son fell in the parking lot (in true little boy fashion he just got ahead of himself and tripped) well he ended up scraping both of his knees pretty good. As not to cause a scene, my wife took him over to the side to comfort him while I looked for some napkins to clean up his knees. Before I could even get back to them the owners were standing with my wife with some basic first aid supplies and bandaids making sure my little boy was okay. Some fried foods. Basically bland seasoning fried. Just because it's fried doesn't make it good. It's a smaller town and one of the only places to eat there, so I think that's why it's popular. Had shrimp basket which was okay. Fried okra was bland. Hamburger was like any other. Nothing phenomenal here. Won't be back. read more

Jolly Cone was a stop on our way to see my brother Tim in Mountain Grove, and we we're also going to check out the fudge in Uranus Missouri. I had been to Jolly on 2 previous occasions to cool off with a Cone. The cones were as advertised, Jolly. They made me laugh cause I couldn't lick the darn thing fast enough to keep it from dripping on my hand! The soft serve is very soft indeed. A visit to their restroom was warranted, to cleanse the offended digits. I found it to be very clean, near spotless, which is unusual for a small take-out in an even smaller town. That's why it stuck in my mind. More on that later. This visit my brother Phil and I tried the food. We both got a Jolly burger with relish, which is kind of like a sloppy Joe. It was pretty good, and if you consider the $1.50 price, it was really good. We also got a large order of fries to split. I'm glad we both didn't get large fries, the one order was enough, with some to spare. And naturally, we topped it all off with a Cone. Now this is where I have to circle back to the restroom. The cones proved themselves worthy as before, so a quick trip to the aforementioned was a necessity. But something was amiss at Jolly Cone. The womens restroom was " Out of order ", so all traffic was directed to the mens. Upon opening that door, ones eyes met what could best be described as an assault on the senses. Well, at least two of the senses anyway, cause this consumer wasn't about to touch anything beyond the threshold of door "number two", if you catch my drift. I could only imagine what was to be found behind the out of odor, I mean, order door. Go for the food and the ice cream, and don't leave the wet wipes....behind? Completely rude! We went there on a float trip because hey it's a current river tradition! They were so rude and literally didn't even acknowledge us and pretty much slammed the window in our face. Can't speak to the food because we left after the rude service. I definitely don't recommend this tradition! read more

Love this place!!! I have gone here for so many years. Every time I would go floating we would stop here, and now that my son plays baseball, every time we go to Van Buren we make sure to stop here. The bullseye burgers and fried pickles are the way to go!!! Make sure you bring cash, they don't take debit cards. We drove past multiple times while we were in town vacationing and decided to stop in on our next to the last day with the pup. Dogs are welcome on the patio. We were able to back the pickup up in a spot at the front side so the dog could get on the grass and stay away from people (so paws did not get stepped on) which worked great for us to sit on the tailgate. You can order from both windows and pickup is from both windows. You do not pay until you receive your order. The kitchen looked very clean. The young people working were definitely in sync and looking like a well oiled machine. Customer service was amazing! Please, thank you, & I'm sorry were part of their vocabulary as well as complete sentences. No slang was used. (There is hope!). We stopped in for a snack of a small ice cream cone, a shake, & a large fry. Great presentation, generous amounts, & great flavors. The grease that the fries came out of had to be clean, no old smell or dark color...beautifully golden. The soft serve was just as I imagined and compared to DQ, the same. Terrible gut burgers, cold, nasty meat, flies in and around area. No hand washing. No social distancing. We did not receive our entire order. Management needs customer service training. We won't be going back. I spent $42+ on food that makes you feel ill and after one bite we were all ready to throw in the nearest garbage can. Do yourself a favor. Check your order at the window, not the car. They are known for not giving you everything you paid for and will deny, deny, deny it is their fault. Wash your hands Jolly Cone, buy and sell better quality meat products, train your employees, train your management. Not worth even looking for a place to park, food that was very disgusting. What can anyone say about the Jolly Cone? A Van Buren classic institution, for 50+ years. What you see is what you get, and the sundaes are fresh and fabulous. Jolly Cone gives you an honest value and there's no surprises, unlike other places that mislead you with their higher pricing. There is a nice variety among their entree and dessert menus, to keep you coming back to try new things. Outdoor seating only. Open til 9pm and gets the floating crowds in summer. You really can't say you have been to Van Buren without stopping at Jolly Cone to have a nice meal, and say hello to the locals. Jolly Cone has been operating for longer than I have been alive! Their menu is huge, and it is hard to choose because everything sounds so good! I ordered a Jalapeno burger, and it was awesome! I will definitely order it again the next time we visit. I ordered the little ones each a Junior Burger, not realizing that was actually a sloppy joe that was hard for them to eat. (That was my bad - the menu clearly stated it wasn't a burger.) My tween girls ordered chili dogs, which they loved. We shared some curly fries that were cooked to perfection! We had shakes to drink: chocolate, strawberry, and banana. My daughter let me taste her banana shake, and it was better than my chocolate! The little ones had cones, and they were some happy little campers. The shakes were $3.50 or so, and the Jalapeno burger was about that, maybe $4.00. Myself and four kids cost about $32.00 in all. Not too bad on the pricing... One of the things I love about Jolly Cone, is that you can sit outside and soak up some good ole vitamin D, aka sunlight. When you come off the Current river and you're still damp, this restaurant welcomes you. In a town famous for floating trips, this is a big deal. The absolute only complaint: They do NOT accept debit cards! Whoa... next stop, 21st century please. I had to run find an ATM to withdraw some cash to pay for our meals, which cost me extra money in bank fees. I don't think they started cooking our order until I was back from the ATM, making our wait a little longer than normal. I stopped by one evening for a corn dog and a limeade and the owner told me he couldn't serve me a limeade because he ran out of limes! Really! They make their ades with real fruit and not concentrates or mystery powders. This is an old-fashioned drive-in with ice cream, burgers, dogs, fries -- not health food, right? But real food.
