My husband grew up in this area and has fond memories of this dairy bar. On a recent visit on 30Aug25 he took me there for burgers & ice cream. The best mint chocolate chip ice cream with marshmallow sauce I ever had. The burgers were good. Prices were good. They were busy on a Friday night and the teens who were working were attentive overall but busy laughing together & talking as well. I've been visiting the area to see family for years; Dairy Sweet is still the spot for savory and sweet. Never had issues with service or orders, I haven't gotten thru all the flavors of slushies or ice cream shakes because the black raspberry soft serve is too good to not get every time - cone, dish, quart, and my preference, shake. Glad to see a whole new spread of options, house hardserve ice cream, and wraps. The Nashville hot chicken made a great and budget friendly diner fix. My own mix for the dream cloud, ice cream and slushi, pomegranate slushy and black raspberry ice cream, best antidote for Indiana summer humidity. Dated. Not clean at all inside. Visible dirt, dust, and filth on the cash register, and behind the counter. Place reeked of dirty grease. The floor was disgusting. Long line of people, they leave the counter without acknowledging other people in line. Prices even higher than shown last year, almost $5 for a cup of soft serve is ridiculous, when the place is dingy and dirty. No way I'd return and no chance I'd trust anything not in the soft serve machine or hot food- I'd hate to see how gross it is out of sight of customers. read more

I enjoyed my experience! This seems like the place to be in Grabil. Stacked drive-thru line and long wait for food. Good place to come to catch up with friends and make new ones. Indoor bench seating and outdoor white/aqua picnic benches. Ordered coney with cheese, hot dog with cheese, mushrooms, and large twist cone. Found a bonus side of fried jalapeños. The employees especially the very young ones(high school age and younger?) are totally rude, the interior needs to be updated, the booths should be tables, the cash register is from the 1980s and needs updating, the floors are sticky and gross, the parking lot has Grand Canyon sized holes, the drive thru needs to be completely redone, the outside menu board isn't nostalgic, it's just ancient.....and the hours should be longer especially on weekends and in the summer......but the food is pretty good. read more

The ice cream is good and so is the food. The issue here is service. I know it's hard for everyone to find help right now, but they always seem to be lagging here. Orders take much longer than they should. Also, I notice employees socializing when they should be taking care of customers. It has been like this for a while now. Past this place many times and recently had two chances to stop in. First Sunday it was busy, but the wait was still just a few minutes. The second time (also on a Sunday) it wasn't crowded. Employees have been attentive and courteous both times (5 stars on that). I've taken a liking to their root beer flows (yum!), but their sundaes and ice cream cones also looked worthy of trying. There are 2 picnic tables (or so) outside and we should have used them. Instead we sat inside and battled lots (and lots) of flies. Definitely worth the occasional stop to get a cool empty-calorie-laden treat on a lazy summer afternoon. read more

Does anyone else ever come here and wish this place was better than it really is? I really want it to be more, you know? I'd love to see some pride of ownership. I'd like to see the girls back there wearing gloves when they're making ice cream cones or handling hamburger buns (it is against the health code to touch ready-to-eat food with your bare hands). She was excited to see a taco on the menu so she ordered it, but it was just a chopped up hamburger patty topped with shredded lettuce and shredded cheese and placed on a tortilla. She did not like the meat at all so I ended up giving her the chicken off of my salad which also was just shredded iceberg lettuce. We ordered the fried pickles which were absolutely delicious and crab rangoon, that I have to admit it was good but I don't know if I would call it crab rangoon. The other items we got were just two corn dogs would you can't really screw up, and a barbecue rib sandwich which my son really liked so as for the food I would probably give it three stars, but the dirt and the grime... I honestly don't get the hype about this place. Maybe it's because I'm new to the area. We've been here several times now and I've hesitated reviewing hoping I would get on the bandwagon. The ice cream is ok, nothing spectacular. They have lots of options and add ons so there is something for everyone. I haven't tried the food but my husband and son have and it was good but again, nothing special. The food menu is huge (burgers, fries, etc) and they also have frog legs and Crab Rangoon. The place, in my opinion, is filthy. While the employees have always been friendly and service good, they don't seem to care about wiping the tables. Tonight I had to get wet paper towels to wipe off our table. It seems I do this every visit. One of the tables had used containers on it when we got there and they were still sitting there when we left. The seating is very strange. If you sit outside you have rickety picnic tables. Inside are a few tables on one side and then on the other side 5 or 6 booths across from each other. The aisle between the two rows is crazy narrow. I mean crazy. Two feet wide tops. 'This local ice cream shop is a favorite of ours. It's a bit far from home but we like to come at least once in the summer. It's a small puma and pop place and is dated but they have tasty food and soft serve that doesn't easily melt. It's comparable to Dairy Queen's soft serve. They offer a variety of cold cream treats in lots of flavors. The service is always friendly and moves quickly. This place gets packed. And since it's small the line can go out then door at times. They also have a drive thru. Soft serve flavors have the usual and then also come in two other special flavors and that's posted on the machine. They have hand dipped ice Cream too. Just look closely for the flavors but don't expect to many. Maybe 8 kinds. Why the three stars is for a few things and simply cosmetic. Walking in you'll first notice an almost unbearable sewage, poop smell. Sometimes it's more pungent than others and today it was almost unbearable. Also, it's very dated and not so clean. It's old and cobwebs hang low, cracks are getting larger, toilets don't flush very well etc. Then there is only one outdoor table. Which is to bad because inside there is only about 4-5 tables. Remember I said it gets packed.... Looking beyond those things which we do because it really is the best ice cream around. We drive 22' for it. I fed recommend going. read more

Gaudy colors and sticky floor.. but the summer spot for ice cream! Dairy Sweet is a must for tourists to Grabill, Indiana. This sweet shop is the perfect destination for a summer bike ride. My favorite item on the menu is the dream cloud - soft serve ice cream floating in a slushy sky. The menu also includes a variety of fast food along with ice cream treats. Seating is limited but frog legs are a hoppin menu item! I froget to try them everytime but hear they are toadally worth it (maybe). read more

There are many homemade appetizers to choose from, sandwiches and hot dogs too. Everyone comes for the ice cream though. Today I got a sundae and it was just the right size. They put on extra toppings and it was so sweet I needed a glass of water to wash it down. The atmosphere is just a traditional, no nonsense ice cream shop. This place used to be better kept up, but the last couple times we've gone, there has been no air conditioning, the tables are always dirty, it's unsanitary all around and it's fly and gnat infested. A kid got covered in ketchup because the dispenser was almost empty and they hadn't even cleaned the mess up the whole time i was there or even showed any concern that he was drenched in ketchup even on his face and in his hair. Part of my ice cream fell before the employee handed it to me and he quickly left without handling the situation and that's the attitude I sensed from all the employees.
