I've been a big fan of Target for many years, but recently I've been disappointed in the direction…read morethey are taking--and especially the San Mateo location. In the grocery section, their corporate direction seems to be stocking more and more of their store brands with much less nationally branded products. For example, they have almost no Early California olives, and all Archer Farms or another of their brands. Since it's unknown who makes these products, I don't buy them. The prices are sometimes higher than the national brands. I've always purchased Viva paper towels at Target in San Mateo and now they've replaced these with their own brand of a poor-quality product. (note that other locations still carry Viva, just not San Mateo). I know they make better margins on their own brands, but customers do have brand loyalty on some products. I find myself making the drive to Walmart more frequently--much better selection and much lower prices. Target once was known for fun, good-quality seasonal items. I have many that are now part of our family collection of decorations. Now they have a smaller selection at cheap Dollar Store quality. I guess they don't want it to last multiple seasons! They have also locked up many items at this store. I understand theft and their need to do this, but I've pressed the buzzer and waited 10+ minutes, and no one ever comes. This has happened on dozens of visits. Many times, while I'm waiting, I use the store Wi-Fi to order the item from Amazon. Not only am I frustrated, but it also takes away from the time I had planned to spend in the store--so I buy less. In this time where customers are looking for value, Target seems to be concentrating on their own profits.

I walked around then realized I started gathering items so luckily the carts are all inside so I was able to grab a cart while holding the items I had slowly started to collect. The dressing room employee was nice and helpful. The cashier was also friendly. I was able to leave my cart while I tried on clothes and came back and it was still there. The bag selection was really nice today. Everything is always first come first serve with stores such as these. They always have good values, but I recommend having a list of things you need, which will help narrow down what you end up buying. They had a good selection of stainless steel pots, and they had these cute mini stainless steel All clad pans!! Also good deals on the glassware for meal prepping! I'd recommend this location I was pleasantly surprised. There is also a trader joe's in the same parking block, but I'd avoid that area. Beware of driving on the trader joe's side, it can get risky from people backing up and not seeing you yikes.

Some of the reviews are baffling. Complaints are about routine "procedures" in every Ross I've been…read moreto, and I've been to probably 2 dozen different Ross stores. Carts cannot leave the store. Stores will only give credit for current sale price if no receipt. This is actually common at more than just Ross. 3 stars for actually having a decent amount of inventory and the sweetest loss prevention girl. The reason I am giving low stars is for the lack of safety. I understand they are closing this location down, but per staff, there has been no light in the parking lot for a year now. This is a huge safety issue for customers AND team members leaving at the end of their shift. I actually felt uncomfortable and don't usually feel like that. Can only imagine how the staff feels. Shame on the complex and store manager for not making this an issue with an unknown closure date!! Your loss prevention gal that night told me the staff has brought it up and they get ignored.

Immediately upon entry, we were singled out and subjected to prolonged and targeted surveillance without cause. While we were initially greeted by a courteous security guard, a Caucasian male employee wearing a face mask began staring at us and proceeded to follow my mother and my minor child throughout nearly every department of the store for approximately 35-40 minutes. This employee repeatedly hovered in close proximity while pretending to straighten merchandise, including in the shoe department, the Christmas section, and the men's shoe department. His actions were continuous, deliberate, and clearly focused on my family--specifically my minor child and elder mother. When we approached the checkout line, this individual positioned himself directly in the jewelry are next to the line and pretended to be on a phone call, continuing his monitoring behavior. Separately, while I shopped independently in the skincare/beauty section and moved through the girls' clothing and baby aisles, a second individual dressed in black clothing--without a shopping cart or merchandise--repeatedly circled the same areas I entered, maintaining constant visual surveillance. This conduct was intimidating, intrusive, and coordinated. At no point were we approached, questioned, or accused of any wrongdoing. We engaged in no behavior that would justify suspicion or monitoring. The only apparent basis for this treatment was our appearance. The targeted following of a minor child and her family under these circumstances constitutes discriminatory conduct and created a hostile and humiliating shopping environment. This conduct may constitute violations of, but not limited to: * California's Unruh Civil Rights Act (Civil Code §51) * California Civil Code §52.1 (Bane Act) * Federal civil rights protections prohibiting discrimination in places of public accommodation

The visitor seating area next to Foot Locker smells like throw-up, and the carpets and seats are stained and grimy, like they haven't been cleaned in months. During Christmas, the Santa chair for photos is black, sticky, and completely gucky, making what should be a fun experience with kids feel disgusting.
