Woo. Asian deals. Oh beware that I am rating this store while it's "on sale" everything $1.50 + tax, which also means everything you can not return or exchange. Everything has Japanese labels, and along with Chinese, Spanish, English sometimes. They have every lil bonbons you need in regular Japanese life. However, comparing with regularly we got stuff all MADE IN JAPAN, most stuff in this store are MADE IN CHINA. Also you will see few from other Asian countries like Vietnam and Thailand. Japanese equivalent to the 99 cents store, but only much nicer and cleaner, with over packaged items mostly from Japan and largely cute but useless items. I have been buying candy, chips and beverages at DAISO and smuggling them into the AMC at Monterey park for as long as I can remember. I will take calbee chips over bullshit rancid movie popcorn anytime and the sweet sweet taste of "cow piss" (calpico for the uninitiated, it should have been calpis but apparently the sound of it didn't resonate too well with the Amurikuns) beats this shit out of the corn syrup sodas at the concession. Now, I have to admit the Japanese candies is an acquired taste, the chocolatey ones don't compare favourably with the European ones and some of the American ones. The fruity candies though, are great. The best Meiji candy and the "gummi" are not sold at DAISO, but the fruit chews bags at $1.50 are a great deal, however the single flavour "stick" forms are shit since they sell these for $1 while normal supermarkets sell them for $0.79 ($0.69 when they are on sale!!) My sister is also a fan of DAISO and buys cute animal rubbers (erasers!! Not condoms you perverted FREAKS). I ve considered searching for a local 12-step group which addresses my Daiso issues. Its easier if I limit myself to handbasket only And now that I've admitted I have a problem, things are improving! 1st Is their super glue selection. Nothing but praise for the Cyanoacrylate in the nail polish type bottle with applicator brush. Saves the glue, saves my skin from sticking to what im gluing! Great stationary, mind expanding cotton swab selection. 60-pack of bamboo chopsticks assuage the guilt which accompanies my disposable flatware consumption. (Its renewably sustainable disposable!). They sell more than one EXPIRED food items, and most of others are going to expire in few months. Was going to give 5 stars when first visit Torrance store last week. My wife and I came to the Monterey Park store this afternoon and was impressed by their delicate cheap stuff. However, we found there are warning signs on the bottom of shelves which are very easy to be missed saying the items may contain Lead and some other chemicals that could cause cancer!!!! We also put the snacks back when we saw most of them are expiring soon and some are already expired. The place is very well organized and clean. It has really cute stationeries and at a good price. There are a lot of things you can buy at a low price point such as cosmetics, snacks, stationeries, ribbons, and household items and products. For cosmetic, if you're looking for a blackhead strips, I do highly recommend to buy it here, they come it a pack of 3 or 5 and are highly effective. There was actually a line forming outside the store when I first came here during the week of grand opening. It was like lining up to get into a club in Hollywood! This location is a lot smaller so it gets super crowded to the point where it becomes difficult to move around once you actually get inside. They have lots of cool things and everything is $1.50! You'll probably end up purchasing a lot of random things that you would normally not buy unless you were specifically looking for it. I bought a cell phone holder for my car and an air freshener. Lines to pay for your items are long as well. Hopefully this was only because I went during the holiday season and it'll become more efficient with time. We live in Long Beach, so why does my sister phone me to drive all the way to "Monterey Park to visit a store that sells (nearly) everything for $1.50." I tell her I can just go to the .99 cent only store right here in my own hood! She says, "but it's all Japanese stuff!" We venture out to Monterey Park, lucky its a Sunday, no traffic...well, no traffic until we enter the parking garage. I know I am Asian, but gosh dang it, Asians can't f-ing drive. Luckily my bro-in law, an aggressive driver, makes a quick turn while a car is backing out, yes -ours!! Daiso is hidden in a shopping center built within a housing complex, but we find it! Walking towards Daiso, I thought there was a line to enter...but upon closer inspection, it was just the hustling and bustling of people coming a going. We walk in and bam, someone bumps into me - "sorry" "excuse me" "cutting through", that is all you hear (well, I think that is what they are saying). My sister, so funny, like a true dollar store shopper she says "Let's start in the back and go one aisle at a time =)" Uh, ok! The store itself is well maintained even with the massive amount of traffic. There are plenty of things for everyone, from costumes to toys, to false bottom eyelashes to bump its, to yarn/sew/art and crafts to cooking and cleaning, socks, electronics...just about everything. Most everything is $1.50 unless there is a sticker with a different price on it. So after shopping, we head towards the line...its so LONG!!!. We wait, and the next thing you know, we are already at the register. Well, that was fast! WHOOO! there's finally a Daiso in the SGV area! When I first heard about this $1.50 store of goodies in Torrance or Irvine or wherever the heck the other Daisos are I was like "meeehhh too far away for lammee dollar store.. not worth driving here for..." But after having gone to this location at the Atlantic Times Square Plaza, I can definitely see WHY people would drive out of their way to shop here! The store is FILLED with goodies ranging from candy to stationary to kitchen items as well as outdoor gardening materials and men's ties (HAHA!). My boyfriend calls it "the store full of crap (-_-)" but i would have to argue otherwise. I got... 1. A couple of plastic file holders to store loose pieces of paper (yay no more random crumpled paper found at the bottom of my backpack!). They kind of act as a folder for all my notes and papers, but they weigh like 1/4 of the weight of those normal 1" binders you would get at office depot. 2. A bunch of bounded notebooks (which in my opinion weigh a lot less than the clunky spiral bounded notebooks that just weigh down your school bag), 3. A pack of colorful post-it notes (PRETTY COLORS LIKE PURPLE AND TEAL!) 4. A giant purple permanent marker (which was actually a gift from Macy H.) 5. Pack of Fake Lashes (also courtesy of Macy H. hehe) 6. A giant plastic container with a lock-in lid to store all my nail polishes ( this item actually came out to be $4... sadly not EVERYTHING in the store is $1.50) 7.Pack of Sponges for the kitchen 8. A wrist band/wrap for my mom who had sprained her wrist (she said it worked quite well to keep her wrist constricted) While shopping for my items I also came across a lot of other things in the store including... -Hi Chews (YES THEY HAVE MANGO FLAVORED ONES) -batteries -iphone screen protectors -kitchen utensils -sushi maker (totally coming back for this!) -cute ceramic bowls/cups/plates -sewing material -screwdrivers -japanese facewash -pens/pencils -&& a whole lot more stuff! My only gripe would be the aisles are pretty narrow so you kinda have to squeezeee your way through the store :/ Also.. make sure you have cash because they only take credit card for purchases over $10. I love the merchandise they sell here but the store is tiny and cramped. Makes it especially hard to walk around and enjoy yourself when you're constantly bumping into people. This store also has alot of elderly people coming to just take a stroll so if you need to get something, you should expect to spend some time here. My reason for 2 stars is because of the workers, but really depends on the time in which you go. My latest experience was ruined when I went to go pick a couple things up very quickly after the gym. When I went up to the cash register there girls working hardly noticed my existence let alone stop their conversation that had nothing to do with work to help me out. " I can afford mac okay..." " yea blah blah blah blah" ... okay girls seriously.. haven't you ever heard of not taking your drama to work? Even if it's a minimum paying job there no reason to be rude and unprofessional. Aside from continuing their conversation and acting as if I wasn't even there, the girl rung me up and didn't even tell me the total and expected me to just give her the money and figure it out myself.. okay.. I walked into Daiso for the first time and I fell in love. There are sooooo many neat stuff to look at and I would have taken more time to browse around if my time in LA wasn't limited to just one day. This is like a Japanese 99 cent store, but with better quality than any other 99 cent store. Many are in cute packaging too. And lots of useful and handy stuff too. I got myself a back rubber that is shaped in an ergonomic way that I have not seen before and my bf was feeling adventurous and got a charcoal facial mask/cleaner. We later found out in beauty blogs that Daiso carries the cheapest charcoal facial mask brand and are quite highly rated. The aisles are bit narrow though, but most customers there were asian and so space wasn't a big problem hahas. The location of the store also felt a bit odd since the shopping area seemed more for higher end retailers. read more

Yes, everything in here is only $1.50 and it can get really packed. For $1.50, you can really only expect $1.50 worth of quality. I have only purchased eyelashes here, which I have been pleased with. They have a wide selection of eyelashes, some come in two packs. I seriously considered getting so much more stuff, but luckily I'm poor and can't. To me, this store is a lot like thrift shopping; when you go without a clear idea of what you want, you will end up wanting more than you actually need for the simple fact that it is such a steal! I docked Daiso a star because the aisles are so close to each other. I love this place for stuff I need...I'm usually good about avoiding stuff I don't need. It's like a Japanese version of the .99 cent store/Dollar Tree. I come here for stuff I can't get at dollar stores, like a 12-pack of disposable steel wool scrubbers. I think the .99 cent store has it but it's not as good quality. I'm halfway through the bag and it's been a year. I also get soft facial cotton pads, for applying toner, that are softer than the dollar store and comparable to Shiseido's cotton pads (which is ten bucks for an 80-pack, no thanks, or as my mother would say "at that price, you can sell it to your mother"). I don't really go out of my way to go to Daiso because parking at dollar stores are way easier. Ralph's had a major sale on their soft facial cotton, and I stock up when products I actually need get marked down, so I haven't really had to come here. I only navigated through 25% of the store - it's huge. I'm kind of afraid to! My heart beat changes pace in this store. My eyes brighten. I'm pretty sure my pupils dilate. Ah, retail "therapy." I pick things up and put them down trying not to fall into the trap of convincing myself "I need it and it's just a buck fifty." I've never spent more than five bucks here and it helps to control myself with my "no plastic" rule - I won't buy plastic products. I'm actually trying to get rid of a bunch of them, safely, slowly and surely. It takes time because it's not cheap switching to/investing in the glass/stainless steel life and so it's about as tough (read: near impossible) as avoiding products made in China. My new qualitative criteria rules out a lot of things. Glass and stainless steel is an investment, whereas plastic is disposable and I am slowly disassociating myself with the "disposable lifestyle." I try to walk into Daiso with myopic vision via shopping list. Then I get lost and have to literally remind myself of the list; I look down at my list and grasp it tighter like a talisman guarding me against the hypnotic adventure that is...DAISO. I kind of get this way with Target, too. The shopping list conquers all! The parking is a free garage that's kind of creepy looking; the spaces could be a little wider but Chinese-made/minded things always try to squeeze out every inch. I really like Daiso's. However, this particular location is super small and everything is packed really close together. When you walk down the aisle, you bump into people. Everything is really cheap though, priced at $1.50 or some things are more expensive like $3 or $4, but it'll say on the item if it's more expensive. Things at Daiso are a hit or miss. Some are durable and good quality, and other things aren't as good quality. However, it's okay most of the times because it's so cheap!
