It was a holiday weekend so maybe couldn't get a guy out to fix the direct tv - overall a great experience and would definitely recommend to stay! The reviews on another site we're actually stellar which capped off our decision to try something a little unique and we were not disappointed. Samantha's timber Inn appears to be an old style motel that has been completely renovated. Each room as unique as the website indicates with a specific theme. Ours was a boat theme and the pictures posted here don't do the place justice. Tongue and groove pine board paneling and matching decorations down to the shower curtain made you feel like you were in a ship. The space is sprawling including a separate bedroom with a queen size bed. It was meticulously clean and very well appointed. TVs, microwave, coffee maker with coffee and condiments. Super plush towels. Comfortable beds. Wi-fi. We had just pulled in and I received a call asking if we arrived OK and had found the key under the doormat as promised. Check out was smooth and easy. We felt incredibly comfortable in the space and would recommend it to anyone but especially a family.

The bedroom was cozy and the bathroom clean and sadly, larger than the one we have in our own home. The back porch was huge and had a nice view of the marina and lake. I would make one suggestion, however, to this and any other tourist-y attraction located in most parts of this state. Please. For the LOVE OF GOD let out of state people know that most counties in Arkansas are dry when they make a reservation. I'm not sure why we didn't know this - I guess since when I think of Arkansas I think of old men wearing only overalls sitting in bathtubs of moonshine and firing shotguns into the air for no reason. We went for a long arduous hike in the Ouachita forest only to visit gas station after gas station on the way back to the cabin, the slowly encroaching nightmarish vision of an alcohol free evening overtaking us, and after a desperate last attempt at an out-of the-way grocery store yielded no respite, it was then that I realized we might be alcoholics. This establishment is not pet-friendly as advertised: (1) was charged twice for the pet (1 small dog) fee (billing has reviewed the receipt and is working on the correction/refund). Got yelled at by restaurant staff (Y****da) in front of other guests for bringing the10-12 pound dog on a leash into the area for breakfast (the previous Hampton stayed at allowed a dog on a leash in he area to get a plate of food) and she loudly and openly accused us of lying while near the food when we replied we never saw the sign prohibiting this action. A lot of things went wrong at this establishment; can't recommend it to others. Y should not have yelled and also her body language (hand on one hip, then arms crossed, then hand on the hip again) screamed out disrespect and anger; instead, she chose to not be polite, explain the situation quietly and respectfully. She was quite awful. Further, because of this incident, we wanted to check out as fast as possible, however, no one was at the front desk (nor available by calling from the room's phone), even though later they claimed they were there the whole time. Had to leave the keys in the room. With all this going on, there is no way anyone would have felt welcome.

Rooms are very well maintained and kept clean. No loiterers outside, unlike other hotels on this vacation, and no smoking anywhere. This all shows, and it's why we're at the top. What I'd like to see for 5 stars: quieter room A/Cs, slightly softer beds, room lights a little less obnoxiously bright (no lamps, it's just a few overheads - all or nothing it feels like). Had breakfast in the morning and checkout at 11. Only downside was the walls are really thin and we heard a man coughing horribly one night. Honestly I have stayed at expensive hotels that were run down more than this. If your looking for the Ritz this ain't it. If you want a comfortable bed and a place to crash in a small town, this place fits the bill.
