Finding magazine articles of interest to me on a database and printing out the articles instead is very time consuming. Few books of interest to me are placed at this library. Books placed at this library have been absent from the shelf. I dislike having to wait a week or more for book requests to get to this library. I plan not to interact with any employee when I use this library.

I used to go here somewhat regularly for baby or family story time because it was the only one in…read moreMinneapolis on Fridays, but I find it a bit too chaotic. I really like the libraries that have a separate room for kid's activities, it contains the kids and helps keep calm. But E. Lake doesn't have this, and the children's area it not set up in a way that facilitates story time. It also tends to get really crowded here, while for some reason many other libraries get almost no kids for story times. More and more families seem to arrive as the activity gets going, each new late family plopping on the floor behind another, not in a nice neat circle that generates a sense of order for the kids. Ironically, I also like when the facilitator responds positively to little kids who do choose to get up and move around, but I get little sense at E. Lake what the kids are supposed to do.

This library is STUNNING. I don't think I could possibly take photographs that would do it justice,…read moreit's an architectural piece of art. Manages to be huge and modern and glassy while still feeling cozy. It's my absolute favorite place to curl up with a book for a few hours, or bring my laptop and work on writing my novel. It is also very clean, including the bathrooms, with helpful staff. I will say there are many homeless people who like to sleep on the comfy furniture here, and the stench can be something fierce. I'm not trying to be insensitive, but really... the smell is enough to gag me. But when I lived in Honolulu and Portland they had this same problem in the grand main branch of their library. I think it's just what happens in major cities. Fortunately, there are three floors of reading lofts where they do not go, and also all four floors have private study rooms available. You can reserve them online, or you can ask to be let into a walk-in one. They always have several available. Another nice thing about this library is the desks. They have reading lamps and power outlets for laptops. And the place is flooded with natural light. It makes a huge difference in my mental focus and clarity of mind to research or write somewhere with light that is both bright and soft, with a controlled temperature. We are lucky to have this library.

I signed up for a library card for my family as we are library kids and library grown ups as Mychal from TikTok said. We also wanted to support this library in our new community. It was nice. The young lady who enrolled me was great. Her manager was kind of rushing her which I didn't like. Her colleagues or the manager could have taken the other customers but they didn't. My only yelp is the americorp worker. She said she'd watch my child while I changed my other daughter. As soon as I was out of eyesight, the worker did other tasks which is negligent. With all the trafficking in MN, you'd think people especially library staff would be more vigilant of their library kids. But they're slacking in that department. Get it together. Other than that, the place is neat.
