Healing from fungus infection at Dakota Spa

First let me tell you this is no longer a Spa, if you want an overly expensive service for your money then you found the right spot.. Your service will be unprofessional rushed also you may unknowingly have fungus bacteria like I did when you leave. When Mai & Jonathan were the owners this shop was very professional and the service was top tier now not even close. Also they will rather your payment in cash meaning no paper trail when you have an issue and I promise you will have a few. If you have transportation I suggest you find a place that understands what a Spa service will offer to a customer. Zero stars

I am a gentleman, but i believe in keeping my hands and feet well maintained... I left Dicks sporting Goods and seen this nail spa and i've not been this month and i'm new to the area so i try this place. it seemed to be a nice place so i went to the counter and told the lady i wanted a manicure and pedicure and i got the most expensive service for the pedicure which was 90 bucks..... the lady started doing my feet and half way through she starts rushing then she gets to the hot stones and she comes back and say i don't have time for your manicure can you come back ..... what was my response to her and she sat there and looked dumb she then leaves to go put the bowl up she had the stoned in she came back and said ok your all done mind you she had not buffed sanded or filled the top of my nails to smooth it to put a clear coat nor was it offered but she went and sat down at a nail station and started doing someone else's nails. until she all of them seen my face then she comes saying ok she will finish. but i was frustrated and angry and she still tried to charge me full price for a service she never completed...... this was by far the worst service i've had in getting my nails done and i would not recommend this place to anyone

I cannot stop giving praises to this salon, and the dedicated staff that work endless hours making me feel like a "Superstar". I have frequented this salon every 2 weeks for the past year. Each and every time, I am greeted with a smile, and the upmost care is taken to ensure I am completely satisfied before I leave. Being a male who likes to express himself through body art and nail designs, Johnathan, the owner of this fine establishment has never failed me. With each visit, I'm amazed at all the care he takes in making me feel beautiful. He is and forever will be the only person to do my nails. Now, don't get me wrong, all the staff do great quality work, but we all have our favorites, and he is mine. I have never witnessed any of the staff being rude to clients. Subsequently, I have witnessed the clients being rude to the staff. Being in the business of customer service, we have always been taught that "the customer is always right. To this I say "we agree to disagree". The customer is not always right, and Johathan and his team work hard at making all the clients in the shop feel like they are the only priority. Sounds to good to be true, don't take my word for it, call, book an appointment today, and prepare to be amazed. I have and will continue to be a life-long client. Thank you for reading. Cheers, MM

Update: I called to ask to fix the nails and was texted and told that because I expressed my dissatisfaction on Yelp that I couldn't be made happy. I think visiting a salon twice is enough chance to form an opinion on quality. ------ They did a good job on my last pedicure but the fill in for my acrylics was terrible. As you can see in the photos the length of the thumb nails are completely different and the shapes are inconsistent. My nails were pretty long before this so I thought the fill in for a short set would be easy to shape. I had to keep ask for shaping adjustments. At one point a ton of acrylic was left under my nails by one of the techs which took forever to fix. I'll go back for a pedicure but not acrylics. Continuing my hunt for a good dc nail tech.

Thank you Tutu for the good job and my way too pretty nails.. A bit overpriced but worth it. I just love them!

I'm going to think hard and long before I come back. I've always enjoyed coming here. The techs do great pedicures and nails. However, there's a limitation on the skill sets. Not all the techs do acrylic or trendy nails. Which means you have to make appointments and schedule appointments. At first I thought the scheduling thing was a covid related thing. However, it's not. After the way my friend was treated before our vacation, I knew I needed to find another place anyway. So I asked for an appointment for Friday, and the scheduler never scheduled the appointment. He informed me that today, Saturday morning, would be available. I asked for pedicure and fill-in. Now I'm late, which I can hold myself accountable for. However, I asked if it was ok, he said yes. My thoughts were now I no longer need the pedicure so I have time. As I'm pulling up, the tech calls and says she can't accommodate me. Then she says she does not have me on the schedule for a pedicure. What if I really needed a pedicure? What's the point of booking an appointment if 1. The phone number isn't in service and 2. If they have you down for the correct services. This is no way to treat someone who has referred her friends and family. Also, been a customer for a year. I'll think very hard if I need to come back.

An acrylic fill is $55 + $5 for the shape. They have a few really good techs so be stern about getting one with experience if you are doing more than basic gel on natural nails. Mai is really good & fast!! I wish I could continue to go here but these are the highest prices I've seen in the city.

Jonathan is a wonderful Nail Tech he goes above and beyond and gets very creative when at times I do not know what type of design I want.

My toes I feel like are simple- scrub, cut the dead, then paint. I don't know what it was but like yall I do not like the paint job. It looks like there was maybe too much polish on the brush so it's kinda bulky towards the root of the toe. Like this thick polish. I looked down when she was done and immediately was like wait why my feet look like that? The paint job is just idk, sloppy. Idk I just didn't like it. I mentioned it and she was super super nice and like buffed them and painted on top but fr probably shoulda been taken OFF and redone. I told her I know the polish is gonna start chipping because it's too thick... and even when she tried to buff and redo I knew the job should have been started over. I just didn't have the time or patience and it's intro to the summer so they see done enough for my flip flops and maybe it's just that stylist and not the salon but it was my first time and never going back. But! They do serve some wine and even though I think my tech was questioning my age for way too long bc I guess ASKED for the wine and maybe seemed to young and pressed but I mean no one offered so yeah... Good massage chairs, they have "happy hour" prices where they knock some dollars off. Like my service was solid but I truly just don't like the pedicure I received and I don't feel like my standards are high lol. Three days into my pedicure per my estimate the toenails started peeling and looking a hot messssss.

Great value.. IMPORTANT: the address is confusing, and the business has almost no street presence, aside from a flashing sign in the 2nd floor corner window above you . The listed address is not the entrance.. 401 H St. NE is the legal address but it is not even on the building. The doorway is around the corner on 4th, where they post a small sidewalk sign to direct you upstairs. Also, the phone number in Yelp goes to a different number and there is no voicemail message confirming that you got the right place. I came on Wednesday morning during a heat wave and was happy to find a tidy, clean and well air-conditioned space with a friendly staff. Fun hygiene, tidbit: the manager tells me that when health inspectors come by every couple of months, they don't even check to see if the facility has single use plastic tub liners. Of course, District absolutely uses a clean liner for every pedicure customer. It's a key element in avoiding infections. And of course, they autoclave their tools on site for sterility.. as a registered nurse. This sort of thing is top of my list. Sorry I don't live in this town or this would be my regular spot.
