The North Carolina Auto Hall of Fame is located in Mooresville, NC. There is free parking in the…read morelot, and admission was around $6. When you enter, there is a room with information about the area, restrooms and vending machines. The NC Auto Hall of Fame is self-guided, so you can go at your own pace. It covers all types of racing, from drag racing to open wheel racing to stock car racing. Or you can walk into the gift shop and then head into the museum. It is a large building with lots of vehicles, I'd say 40-50, and displays where you can learn about auto racing in North Carolina. I am not a race fan or know anything about the sport so I wanted to check out the museum to learn about it. Racing started during the Prohibition when bootleggers were trying to avoid getting caught by the police. They then started bragging about whose car was faster and met on dirt roads to settle the bet. One section has all the museum's inductees on the wall. There are historic cars and a theatre with clips of racing and interviews. There are signed helmets and old tires from races. There was a moving section on Greg Biffle, the racing legend who tragically died in a plane crash in late 2025. It highlighted how he provided his personal helicopters after Hurricane Helene to fly supplies to Western NC, where some roads were destroyed. I also like how the museum tied in movies like Cars and Talladega Nights. (Cars had the Hudson Hornet in it). You will find a library and an art gallery here too. While I didn't walk away a racing fan, I still found parts of the museum worthwhile. The section on women in racing and the display on Greg Biffle's recent Hurricane Helene relief efforts were highlights for me, as they focused more on the people than the cars. It's a well-done museum, even if the sport itself isn't my thing. I also enjoyed the older cars like the 1940s Moonshine Runner and the Fabulous Hudson Hornet.

What a neat place. I've been wanting to take my nieces here for years and finally had the…read moreopportunity to. I've taken my nieces to discovery kids places in other states but not this one. They had such neat and cool stuff in here. My nieces had an absolute blast on just about everything. It was neat to see different exhibits at this play center such as the firetruck, the boat, the car mechanic, the cafe, and the airline setup. My nieces could have spent all day in there if we would have let them. They also have volunteers walking around through the center cleaning up too! Although we enjoyed our time here I was surprised at how small the place was on the inside. It's two stories but there weren't many play areas upstairs. I've been to bigger discovery kids centers and I wish this one was a little bigger. My youngest niece is only 2 so she was able to play in the small kid area. Even though there were volunteers coming around the facility did not regulate age appropriate kids in the small kid play area. There were 10 Year olds and above coming in the area trying to play. I think they should be a little stricter on this. But overall a cool and fun play for kids!

We ended up getting to play for 2 hours before it got incredibly busy. Our daughter loved the water table, crafts, the grocery store and pizza kitchen! I have worked at a children's museum before, so I have a love for them and this one exceeded expectations. I wish it wasn't so far away, but we'll be back! (It was rather expensive, and I forgot to ask if it was all day admission)
