On a visit to the Charlotte/Kannapolis/Concord area to visit all of the NASCAR Team Garages/Headquarters, Hendricks Motorsports was our third stop. We visited the Hendrick campus this past summer, on a Thursday afternoon in July. It was not super busy, but there were a few other groups in the museum and store while we were there. The campus is located in Concord, and there is plenty of private parking just steps away from the front doors of the museum and gift shop. It was easy to figure out we were in the right spot with the ample signage around the property. The museum and gift shop are essentially one and the same - you walk into the lobby of the building, and the museum is mostly around the perimeter of the space, while the gift shop area is in the center. The team garages are located in another building on the property. We had positive interactions with all of the staff, and especially with the woman who works reception at in the building with the team garages (her name escapes me, but she was so wonderful!). The review is further broken down into categories below: Displays/Museums/Historical Items - 4/5 Rating The downright history, and all of the cars to see at Hendrick is unmatched. There is a lot to take in regarding the history and variety. Also, the amount of cars to see is impressive. All or the cars are behind ropes, so you cannot touch them or get very close. As stated above, the museum is located in one large space, so the cars are just what can fit along the perimeter of the room. There are also large displays discussing the history of Hendrick, along with various trophies. Team Store - 5/5 Rating Hendrick has the largest selection of merchandise for any of the racing teams, by far. There is plenty of selection for each current cup series driver, along with a diverse selection for past drivers. There was a clearance rack of items, and they were also running a promotion of a free item if you spent so much in the shop. You got to pick the item from a select area in the shop. The die cast selection left something to be desired. However, there are plenty of knickknack-type items to choose from. Garage Access - 2/5 Rating In terms of garage access, there is not a ton for this team. As stated above, the garage is located in a separate building on the property from the museum and gift shop. But, this access of this area is limited. The viewing area is only one smaller window. They were working on an Xfinity car at the time we were there, and you were asked not to take pictures of the garage area. Overall Access - 5/5 Rating The access here is rather vast when comparing to other teams. You are able to drive around the entire campus, and see a lot while doing so due to the size. Additionally, there is access for fans to the pit practice area. This is a unique aspect of Hendrick that we did not see from other teams. There is also access to the team lobby, specifically the 5 and the 9 who share a building. This is where the garage viewing area is located. It also had multiple trophies on display, historical items and past cars. Extras - 5/5 Rating Being able to see live pit practice for the team is rather insane. This is not happening at all hours the shop and museum are open, but when the crew is conducting practice, fans are invited to view the sessions. We witnessed this on a previous trip to Hendrick, and watched the practice for an extended period. The pit practices are held in the designated area behind the museum and gift shop. There were even bleachers for fans to sit on for the practice. The Hero Cards are also located in the lobby/entrance of the museum, and the selection was good! In the 5 and 9 team buildings is where the public access to the garages are located. There are a few more race cars to see in there, but the highlight of this part of Hendrick is the receptionist for the building. She was so friendly, and let us hold the sword trophy from Jimmie Johnson's last Bristol win. It is right on the desk, so you will not miss it. This was a major highlight for my fiancé! If you can only make one racing team stop while in the area, Hendrick is the place to stop. There is a lot to look at in the museum, as well as one of the most diverse gift shops of all the teams. It is nice to be able to get merchandise from current drivers, as well as retired Hendrick legends. The extras here are top-notch. If you are able to visit during the pit practice, that would make the whole trip worth it. This absolutely is a must-stop for any racing fan while in the area. read more

Was lucky enough to come here for a speaking engagement with SAE. Hendrick was so hospitable, offered private tours of their facility for our group, and some cool interactions with their employees. I've been here before as a NASCAR fan and this just heightened my opinion of the company and their workforce. read more

We visit Hendrick Motorsports every time we are in the area. We love seeing all the cars and other Nascar memorabilia in the area. The staff are always happy to answer any questions and share stories about the team and the drivers. Incredible campus at Hedrick Motorsports. The grounds are pristine, so well landscaped and maintained. Walking into the museum/visitors center, we were greeted by George, who was so gracious answering all our questions (everyone who entered was treated as well). All the historic Hendrick racecsrs and the history of their impact on auto racing would interest everyone. We spoke with George often and he felt like a personal tour guide. Don't miss the selection of black Corvettes from 1963 to 2924 from Mr. Hendrick's personal collection of over 109 Vettes! The tour is free. George also suggested we drive up the hill to the left to see the memorial fountain dedicated to the family and crew members lost in a horrific plane crash. A good moment to pause. Pray and meditate and be thankful for all that we have, life is short. The last stop open in the complex was the lobby of the 24/48 team which displayed more, the cars, trooy cabinets and much more racing gear. This is a must stop, even people with minimal interest in auto racing would have fun. read more

I enjoyed visiting Hendrick Motorsports which is close to Charlotte Motorspeedway where they have the Nascar Coca Cola 600. Admission is free as I visited 3 buildings here. The first was a museum of race car winners which mainly included race cars won by Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson. There were other older race cars here too by other race car drivers. In the museum is a gift shop where you can buy all kinds of Nascar memorabilia such as T shirts. The second building I visited was the 48 / 88 building. They did not have a viewing window here where you can see mechanics working on race cars. The 3rd building I visited was the 9 / 24 building where they did have a viewing window where you can see mechanics working on race cars. My Experience: You are pretty much on your own if you are just Nascar fan. You just come in and nobody talks to you are guides you. Now, you can walk up to the counter and ask questions like did and they will help you. Final Thoughts. You can not take a tour of the mechanics shop unless you are a sponsor or work for a sponsor. I did see a lucky few getting personal tours of the shops. Overall, I liked looking at the race cars but wanted some interaction. It would have been nice to have a tour. I would have paid a reasonable amount to go inside the race shop and watch mechanics in action. They could rope it off so we fans would not interrupt mechanics doing they work. read more

2018 visit to the facility, and I have to give a lower score than 2014. Now I highly encourage any NASCAR fan to visit the museum/giftshop. Lots of cars from Hendricks Motorsports past, including cars that have won the Daytona 500. If you are a fan of any of the Hendricks drivers you will find a whole lot of merchandise available for purchase. It is also a great place to watch pit stop practice - just ask the employees at the museum and they will direct you to where you can watch. There's also an outdoor pit crew exercise area that you are welcome to watch. I am disappointed in the fan areas of both of the Cup race shops. Both of them do have race cars from their drivers from the current season, and fans are more than welcome to take photos of these "show cars". One shop has completely shut off the former area where fans could catch a glimpse of race cars being worked on and replaced with tv screens and one camera view. The other shop has waist high barriers blocking most of the view and little blackout cloths covering the wheels. Very un-fan friendly. read more

I tried to go here twice. Once the day after the coco cola 600. Then again on 6/2. Closed. Yelp says it's open. Google says it's open. I know these are not credible sources but still. Nobody answers when you call which is a red flag. There's a long drawn out automated speech too. Long story short, you have to sift thru the website to find out they are close due to covid. Although on 5/31 there was evidence of what appeared to be a party or gathering of some sort maybe leading up to the coco cola 600? Maybe a sign on the door would help? Maybe the first thing on the automated phone blurp about being closed due to covid could save people time, money and gas from driving out there? Just simple common sense suggestions to whoever is running the museum. So ... I cannot attest to the awesomeness of this place as others have when they can't even let the public know the hours. Therfore, 1 star is the best I can give them given my experience with the business. read more

I know zero about NASCAR racing but randomly fell on a VIP tour of this facility and was amazed by what I saw. We were able to go into the shops where the engines are made, see how the cars are put together, welded, painted, everything. It was really cool to be THAT close to everything (no pictures allowed sorry). The entire grounds were spotless & the building areas as well, the floors were so shiny where the guys were making parts, no oil or paint or ANYTHING on the floors. We also were granted access to see Mr. Hendricks car collection, I was like ok cars meh...no way, we went through these double doors (no pictures allowed again) and the collection was colossal. Cars from certain years, every color and style of each particular car. A mini Dairy Queen inside with a working a ice cream machine! Really great artifacts and cars with stories behind them. Everything shined and super clean again...it was like a car collectors dream. I could of spent hours looking but time was limited. Anyway this spot is for the non-NASCAR fan or real NASCAR fans will lose their minds on a tour I'm sure. Not sure how you book a tour, ask & maybe you'll get one too! read more

Beautiful shops with views of the cars (many of them) and many previously used Hendrick race cars. A museum and gift shop. Treat yourself with a visit them take the 1-2 mile drive to Charlotte Motor Speedway and take the guided 2 hour track tour. Great experience for $20. read more

The museum and gift shop is large, and there are two workshops where the cars are being built that are also available to walk through. So many cars, trophies and pieces of racing memorabilia. It's truly a spectacular sight to see. Check it then if you are a big racing fan go take the tour of Charlotte Motor speedway down the street. read more

What a hidden gem this place is! We went here after the Nascar Museum Hall of Fame. The campus and the buildings are pristine and the employees are so welcoming and friendly. The museum is fun to see more vehicles and trophies and paraphernalia. The individual shops for racing teams 88 48 and 05 24 are worth a glance as well. It is fun to peek and see the actual mechanics working through the glass wall looking into their bay areas. It's a good place to go and see more actual race cars up close and personal although you can't touch. I would recommend a trip here if you have a race car lover in the family. read more

Left my house early to make the 3 hour trip to Charlotte the Saturday before the Coca Cola 600 so I could go to the team store before the race to buy a shirt I really wanted! Website said the store closed at 3pm but had extended hours on race weekends! Walked in the door at 2:30pm and was told by a very rude man at the door that they closed at 2pm! Very disappointed... After our tour of Charlotte Motor Speedway, we came over here. We like the Hendrick drivers so this seemed like it would be fun. The museum is something. There's a lot of history packed into that building. We all marveled at how the trophies were just sitting on the floor near Gordon's cars. The museum presented the history of the Hendrick team well. We liked that. The shops were interesting but not as engaging. The 48-88 shop was difficult to see what was going on. The 24-5 shop presented fans with a closer look at the action. Both had more cars for us to look at. We liked this place, but it wouldn't be something I would classify as a must-see. read more

Located near the Charlotte Speedway. This is one of the buildings located on the Hendrick Motorsports campus. It is a very small museum, with a few cars and memorabilia of the Hendrick's team racers. It is actually more of a large gift shop, than museum. Nearby are the Hendrick's garages, which I understand on rare occasions allow few people to see. I had wished that maybe they would have created a replica of one of their garages, so we could have seen a team garage. If you are fan of Hendricks's team drivers or the team itself, worth a stop. If you only have time for one museum, drive into downtown Charlotte and see the NASCAR Hall of Fame instead. read more
