I was surprised that a Christian university taught evolution. This really bothered us. Also, when discussing things with the deans, it seemed that their speaking engagements were more important than listening to student issues. Incredible beautiful campus, I could feel the Lords presence when touring with my daughter. Felt like the students have a lot of support and it felt like a tight nit community. I like that they make church important and it's mandatory to live there to build community as well as attend church. As much as I could tell they are following biblical standards when it comes to a college education and they have a heart for the Lord. They strive for excellence in the dorms by maintaining a clean area for the students to live. I pray the Lord leads my daughter to this school after we are done touring schools. Out of 5 of our family attending the tour we all agreed it was a blessing just to visit and we all think highly of DBU. read more

This school is the worst school. Repeatedly neglects information about financial aid. Let's you in the school only to tell you that your financial way of payment are not accepted after I participated in a class. Even tho before I applied and went through Financial aid they told me otherwise. School is racists it's white conservatives. If you are a person of color you are as nothing or insignificant. The school only cares about image. The teachers are rude only done like two classes and you can tell. 30k a semester for the same shit and degrees u can get in a community college for way cheap you really paying for extra bullshit. Extremely horrible campus the students are racist at this school the professors are racist as well if you anything other than white I suggest you don't apply or go to this school it's so expensive and they overcharge for a good looking campus but the academics suck for a private university.Campus life is non existent and there's barely any clubs or daily activities for students who live on campus.They are extremely unorganized in financial aid and the cashier office because it's ran by students mostly and I've been overcharged multiple times.Also curfew for students during the week is 11 pm so after that you need your id to get on campus and it's such a hassle if you don't have it.Also you can't take walks at a certain hour of night as well.Id honestly rate this campus less than a one star it completely ruined my outlook on college and traumatized me from being stared at and judged and being left out for my race.If your considering going to this school don't.You'll definitely regret it.The reviews do not lie. read more

Simply Beautiful! The university crests a hill overlooking a lake in Dallas. The campus covers the hill and runs down the back side - very nice dorms, fitness and gym facilities, academic classrooms, playing fields as well as a lovely park with its own lake, swings and bridges. Many classrooms and buildings have views of the large lake. it is private so costs are high, but there are scholarships. It reminds me of a larger version of Stetson University in Florida. The school has such a restful feeling. It is literally a peaceful oasis on nether heart of the city. read more

I received a BS degree in math and a minor in education with teacher certification from DBU. This campus is the real deal where the classes are small, the professors really care and build relationships with the students, they open class with prayer and devotionals, and the worship in chapel is meaningful. Where to begin... Having attended this institution for multiple years, there are a number of insights I have for you. If you have an infinite amount of money, and absolutely love walking through red tape, Dallas Baptist University is for you. The institution itself is rather expensive, and offers great amenities such as multiple, heavily-used buildings with no elevators and slippery outdoor walkways (that cannot be avoided by any means). If you are wheelchair bound, you had better hope you haven't come for a degree in Science or Education, as those buildings are practically inaccessible to you. The institution has 4 main areas of study that receive the largest number of students: Christian Studies, Business, Natural Sciences, and Education. The first two majors regularly share a building with each other and the library, and the latter two majors each have some of the oldest and worst maintained facilities on the entire campus. For these majors being the largest "money makers" for the college, their staff and facilities are treated as second-rate and left on the wayside. Beyond all this, the departments of Housing and the Cashier's office are either disastrously incompetent or downright greedy. Multiple students (including myself) have had to deal with a situation where financial aid was meant to cover tuition, but the Cashier's office was late to process paperwork, leading to late charges on money the student did NOT owe. Beyond this, Housing regularly claims to take a hands-off approach to upperclassmen housing options, leading to students with disabilities having to choose to either get lucky with a spot on a first floor being unclaimed or having to stay in the extremely small (and, for the men, barely wheelchair accessible) dorm rooms. On top of this, Housing makes a habit of stealing money from students under the guise of convenience: graduating seniors are made to move out halfway through a month, but are still charged for the full month's worth of rent. When confronted, Housing will consistently cower behind a contract stating the move-out date of seniors (neglecting the portion of the housing contract that denotes charges by month, thus putting them at fault). If, by some miracle, you ever find either of the departments in a generous enough mood to actually owe you money, the Business Office will get you money back to you in at *least* 4 business weeks ("but maybe longer, it's hard to tell" according to them). The entire time you are struggling to get back your money by running through the mountain of emails and phone calls you need to send to get anything done, the staff in those departments will berate you for not acting "like a believer", as though your frustrations with their department practically stealing your money is somehow your fault. Although DBU credits itself on most students receiving some form of financial aid, it is at the expense of rewarding the successful. Performance in high school or on exams such as the SAT and ACT that would get you a full ride elsewhere will get you (up to) 50% tuition remission. You may get lucky with some of their other scholarships, but they are typically small when compared to the costs of tuition and housing. In essence, if you want financial aid to pay for your schooling here, 2/3 of what you receive will have to come from external financial aid (or you will have to get lucky finding a tuition remission position on campus, whose hourly pay may *barely* cover your rent costs). The campus, in an effort to stifle wage competition, has set wages for every on-campus job available to students (in the case of their TA's, paying them an hourly wage that is less than half of what they would receive in equivalent salary at other institutions). Jobs that would regularly allow for different starting wages or raises are typically forced to reduce wages (almost every position on the university, whether in housing, food, tutoring, or library work begins at around $8/hr, despite many of these positions paying significantly more off-campus). Unless you get a massive amount of grants, the financial aid combined with these wages means that a lot of the burden of payment cannot be fulfilled by the student without extreme reliance on either family or federal loans. This all being said, I would be remiss if I did not speak about the positives. For all the terrible accommodations afforded disabled students, the Student Services coordinator for disabilities actually genuinely cares about students and does everything in their power to help in any way possible. A majority of professors care deeply about their students' long term success and will go out of their way to assist students. Despite poor facilities, the departments in charge of the 4 majors listed previously make the best of what they have, and are honestly a joy to work with. TL;DR Professors here are great and love the students, it's a shame that the school they work for hates its students. read more

I've been attending this private University for about 6 years and about to finish my Graduate studies. DBU alumni and staff stands to serve an outstanding example of an servant leadership attitude that the principles and values of this Campus has been built on from the leading example, Dr. Cooks the president. Campus overlooks from a beautiful mountainous view across the man-made lakes that surround the campus in addition to the beautiful fountains that surround the campuses buildings. Firstly, if you are an alumni or an employee, this is an amazing place to get married. The director and the Sodexo coordinator are both lovely and very professional. I graduated from here in 2008 with my BA in secondary education with a concentration in literature, and I was much better prepared for my career as a teacher that students from other schools nearby. DBU is more rigorous in its teaching prep programs than any other area schools, and continues to be a top ranked college for teachers in both Texas itself as well as one of the top 15 in the US. I'm a proud Patriot alumni, and I loved getting married on this beautiful campus that was once my home. read more

Lovely campus and the location is at the "top of the hill" so you get a great view of the surrounding area. DBU and the people who make it what it is is first class in every way! The staff are very considerate and personable and help prepare students for the real World. Facilities and approaches are continually changing to keep the student ahead of the game by providing a great environment and a high quality education in an effort to get them ahead in life and their career pursuits...really enjoyed pursuing my MBA there and "Yes" I would definitely recommend it! read more

Over Priced Poor Quality Education. ***Potential Students Beware***** I completed my bachelor's with Latin honors then came to D.B.U. for grad school to complete post-bachelor teacher certification in math. I have noticed inaccurate grading where students have brought the issue to the attention of professor that answers could not be found in the text. Just about all of the professor have inaccurate information is syllabuses; everything thing from missing information concerning assignment due dates, professors not teaching vital information concerning STAAR test, inaccurate information concerning the TEKS in a seminar conducted by college of education staff that is not consistent with what education professors are requiring for lesson plans. The college of education skams students by making them pay for a 4-8 math TExES seminar that is supposed to prepare you for the test that will be given at UTA. The certification test is 100 questions timed for 5 hours and D.B.U.'s practice test is only 50 questions which sets students up for failure because you do not get to practice the other 50 competencies that will be on state exam. So i was charged for a seminar that only half prepared me and I failed the state exam so now i have to hire a tutor which is what I thought i was spending seminar money for. D.B.U. is an unethical university that is profiting off the name of Christ and you will be hard pressed to find Christ's integrity anywhere on this campus. This school cares about one thing and that is money. I would recommend teach.Texas or anywhere else than this half of an education at D.B.U. Don't say you were not warned.. read more

Negatives: I do not resent this school, my experiences, or anyone here, but there are some MAJOR DRAWBACKS that you must BE AWARE of if you are considering going here. For instance, all students, and yes I mean all of them, recognize DBU as Duffle Bag University (not Dallas Baptist University). Seriously, the majority of students go home on weekends which leaves anyone on campus with nothing to do. It is an endless cycle of nothingness from Friday morning until Monday morning. It is quite unfortunate because it really hinders any potential community. There are fun things to do, but only for the first year. All events that are hosted are only geared towards freshman who want to meet other freshman. The academics are not very rigorous, the cafeteria is DISGUSTING because the food is often undercooked and unhealthy, and this school will suck all of the money out of you and your family. I have three words for you that define the status of DBU : GREEDY GREEDY GREEDY. Scholarships? They give very little to students. Furthermore, EVERYTHING at DBU costs money. Most of the events that should be free to students cost $10 or more which makes students not want to go to anything. Moreover, any campus job that you are interested in is worthless because they run you into the ground while disgracing your reputation by offering a pathetic wage. This is the truth. Although, most students don't mind because it gives them something to do since there's nothing going on here after freshman year. Positives: I appreciate that this school incorporates faith in everything because the professors truly exemplify Christ-likeness in most, if not all situations. I learned a lot during my time at DBU because of some of the staff and faculty members that fostered my growth as a Christian. Also, the students here are truly lovely people. Although I am transferring for the reasons above, I have made decent friendships. I'd say that everyone here is a truly genuine person, it is just a shame that DBU doesn't have more going on because people are at a loss with how to make community. I joined a great sorority, but even then, it was such a waste of my time because of all of the restrictions placed on fun activities within the organization. Advice: I highly recommend this school for students who have worried parents, who have a lot of money, who live close, or who are athletes. But, I highly DO NOT recommend if you are an introvert, middle class loan recipient, or a student who will be more than 45 minutes away from home. read more

I was enrolled in the PhD in Leadership Studies Program at Dallas Baptist University this year and I am quite shocked at the demeanor of the professors. When you first meet the enrollement staff and faculty, they do a great job of convincing you they care about you and your success. Once they get you enrolled, it becomes a different story entirely. During my classes, the professors adopted condescending and sometimes abusive attitudes toward the students. They are not so much interested in providing an education as they are brainwashing the students into conforming to their views of the world. A common phrase used was "we want to mold you into successful doctoral level thinkers" but what this really meant was that you would not succeed unless you conformed to the type of thinker they thought you should be. They also had a bad habit of speaking to us as if we were in grade school, despite the fact that most of us were seasoned professionals in our respective industries. They would interrupt students during presentations and spew nasty criticism which they called "constructive feedback". Where I drew the line was when the professors began criticizing a few students who became ill during class and claimed "they were just trying to get out of doing class work". All of this in front of the other students no less. This is a true testament to their character. Just like typical religious hypocrites, they love to hide all of this behind a facade of Chrsitianity. Needless to say, I dropped after the first semester as did many other fellow students. Enroll at your own risk. You have been warned. read more
