Advising needs to NOT use young, arrogant female / male students as Sign In help for this very important role, as they don't respect you, your TIME, OR your privacy and will disclose any and all personal information they see on the screen after you give them your i.d. Advising visits are HARDLY EVER PLEASANT to begin with, but when you add to this an immature female sitting at the Advising Check-in desk you get even more HELL to add to your Day. They then lie to the dean or advisors as if they are the victim and you did them some harm when you Give them The SAME ENERGY RIGHT BACK. Advising and Admissions are staffed with the "I don't give a F*ck" types that are ONLY PRESENT FOR A PAYCHECK. Do better Northlake Hiring Team. read more

Superb nice campus! I came here for the first time to take one class although I'm from another campus. It made a great impression on me. A beautiful big lake in front of k and h building. There are a lot of lounges with benches and sofas every building. Swimming pool and gym room are huge plus. I like waste cans here which includes 3 separate ones, extremely nice! read more

This is a very quite campus especially in the evening when I am doing my Excel class. Professor Reuben is the best. He loves the students and the material he teaches. Thr continuing education program is really well thought with the course offerings.The T building is a bit old and dingy looking. The restrooms are not well kept and the classrooms are cold. At age 46, I started college here. In the beginning I did not have a clue as to what to expect. RTVB -Video technology is the major I selected; I'd had my sites set on writing and directing film for a while. I had raised my kids while being an electrician and inspector. At first, I did well in the introduction classes. Things went wrong during my third semester in the more advanced classes. See, what I found out is that due to the lack of interest in the program, intro students were being allowed to take advanced classes, which is in direct viola of the protocol. I found out the hard way when I was placed with two beginners in my group that last semester there. I carried the load, teaching the beginners how to work a camera and edit. They were not prepared mentally for this. So, my grades went down because we were graded as a group. I talked with professor Andy Chiles and that went nowhere. I emailed Dean Evans because in truth, no one knew what he looked like and it was virtually impossible to reach him. He emailed me back and said that one or two intro students fell through the cracks and Chiles told him that my problems were due to me not trying hard enough. This was false and basically a slap in my face. I drove 55 miles each way on a busy highway to make my classes. 1 1/2 hours three times a week. I finally emailed the head of North Lake, Dean Slejko. After speaking with Dean Evans, Dean Slejko told me there was nothing to be done. Disheartened, I transferred to another school in the District, got really close to graduating when my son died. I haven't graduated yet, and have had to change majors because my new school doesn't fully support RTVB. If I had not been ignored at North Lake, I would have graduated and my son would most likely be alive. While at my new school, Eastfield, I happened upon a librarian who said his niece was having the same problems at North Lake. This lifted some weight off me, especially since I didn't ask the librarian about the intro students etc. He casually mentioned it not knowing I had the exact same issues. I'm finally writing this so that other students do not step into the same trap. I feel bad I've waited this long bit my son's passing has pretty much halted my life for now. Ms. Slejko, if you read this, please take it seriously. Our children and in some cases our adults are the future. There are good professors at North Lake. Tim Dougherty is great. Very patient and helpful. Also, Professor Moseley in Film Appreciation is inspiring. If it wasnt for these 2 good professors, 1 Star would be earned on this review. I hope this helps those who love film and the process from now on. Maybe for film, a 4 year university like North Texas State would be better and give you a better shot in this wonderful, wide-open industry. I came back to finish what I started here several years ago. I realize the importance of having a college education. The counselors are wonderful and listen to your needs. I had gone out of state for a while to another community college, but did not feel like an individual there, more like just another numbered body. Northlake gives you a one on one like no other college I've ever been to, which is something that is rare to find. Looking for a new career change, want to get an AA then transfer to a four year college for a BA, Northlake college is where it begins, believe me when I say it, it's the best decision of your life, period the end. Woodworking classes are really great. The staff is helpful, willing to answer questions, instructors are glad to give one-on-one teaching if needed. Classes run the entire semester instead of trying to cram everything into one 8-10 hour session. You can work at your own speed, within reason. They provide the materials and tools for the beginner class, unlike the other places that charge extra. For the second year class, their tools are available. I've been enjoying their classes for years and have learned much. I'm currently building furniture because of what I learned there. All at the cost of one semester of tuition. Oh, and you get college credit too! read more

I tried to go to check in for tutoring, but they claim they can't let anyone sign in without a paper printed off which i know that is a lie cause I have been to the tutoring area before without one. I asked if I could get one thing checked and they still refused to let me sign in after that I spoke with their manager she was highly rude and unprofessional like the rest of her staff that are in the front. So she offered me 10 minutes keep in mind I could of had 25 minutes with help already. If I could could give a rate of 0 stars I would honestly. read more

Some of the professors here don't actually know how their own college operates. Dr. Seeley, an English professor teaching at this college, asked if me and another student were part of the Americans with Disabilities population when we had asked to speak with him as we had questions about the grades he'd issues us. The other student and I were both high school students taking college courses for credit under the college's dual-credit joint-partnership with our school district. I'm not sure whose fault that is, but clearly this professor was not informed whatsoever. read more

Been here and austin and houston, and i like this place the best. with everything that can go wrong or right in a CC, i think north lake does good job balancing everything well. i would say that they could put more people on admission. Had to wait 30 minutes because there were only 2 officers who were doing work. And it wasn't like 30 minutes in the beginning of the year, it was at random time when it shouldn't have been busy. there were 6 people behind me as well read more

This is a great place for adults to continue their education or to go back and finish a degree plan. Great advisors on staff to help out with complete registration process and especially the VA advisors for fellow veterans! If you live in the area I highly recommend taking a look. They've got day classes, evening and online coursework is available as well! read more

I have worked for five colleges and within three districts, and North Lake College is by far the best college to teach at. For being in Los Calinis this place is a dump. I really thought this was a nicer campus then what it was. The buildings look old and outdated and the inside of the main building doesn't look at better. Also very frustrating cause there is no signs to point you in the wrong direction and the buildings are not marked so you don't really know where to go unless you are familiar with the campus. Very frustrating and not sure why the administration would make it this difficult for a first time visitor. Oh and forget trying to call for information. Took me 3 days to finally get ahold of someone. read more

I believe North Lake has amazing teachers, but the financial aid department sucks. There has been numerous times that I have had trouble registering for classes because of financial aid issues and I am in great academic standing. read more

First your experiences may differ but here is mine. The buildings look nice but are you here for that? I took computer network classes. The quality of teachers was not good at all. 1. The department said take this particular course. I took it and the teacher taught little and to top that the course was basically useless and redundant. I wasted my hard earned money on this useless irrelevant course recommended by the department. 2. One teacher was not teaching the course properly and so some students complained about her to the department. She was enraged and wanted to know who complained about her and stopped teaching the class and left the classroom! 3. I took another networking class and the teacher was a Pakistani (wait the nationality is relevant to my post) . He taught little to nothing. At end of class he was asking students for job leads. He was looking at me too but I had none. Then the Pakistani teacher said this in classroom - some kind of religious riot happening between muslims and other religion (mine) in my home country! And he said he was supporting muslims. He said his family was in Pakistani military. I was shocked as I had nothing to do with all of this and I was just a student in the class. This man was making political and other statements in the class he was teaching it! And it was directed at me. 4. Another networking class I took was with a Vietnamese teacher. I asked him permission to review the chapter quizzes before final exam. He refused me. But he allowed other students to review the quizzes! So this was a clear case of harassment. I complained to department head about this and he allowed me to review chapter quizzes. later this Vietnamese teacher made a negative statement about people from my home country. Now I understood why he was harassing me. 5. Another networking class i took was taught by a lady. She taught nothing I mean nothing. We just sat in classroom and read the chapters and did the homework all individually by ourselves. But that is not all of it. I had questions and this teacher would ignore me totally in the class I mean ignore ALL OF MY QUESTIONS. I raised hands to ask them but she would not even ACKNOWLEDGE ME, NOT ONCE, THROUGH OUT THE SEMESTER. Any reasonable person would know when this is happening to them that something is wrong that you are being MISTREATED. I thought If I made the complain she would give me a bad grade deliberately So I did not complain. In the First exam, lots of students failed. More than half of the students quit the course. I don't know why I didn't quit. May be I thought I could manage a decent grade studying by myself. I got a B grade in first exam. There was only 1 other exam. She again taught nothing, The subject material became more complex. I asked her If could get help later Non class day during the week). The teacher said I should make an appointment with her. I did and She showed up late I thought She would help me with studies. But She did not! SHE KEPT TALKING ON THE PHONE AND WENT HOME THEREAFTER totally ignoring my presence! The final exam was over course material not FROM THE BOOK! I made a C in Class. I had a Overall 4.0 CGPA before this class inspite of all the harassment and bigotry I had endured. at hands of teachers at North lake College. I complained about her to the department. One teacher called me up and said She can give any sort of Final Exam She likes. I told him She taught nothing and that the Final Exam was over subject material not in the Book. They did not care. After this class I had enough of harassment, bigotry, and bad treatment and left North lake College for good. If there was a ranking below 1 star, I would give it that ranking. read more
