I don't get the bad reviews. We stay here frequently and love this place. They owners a very kind and helpful, as are every staff member we've met. Always a nice fresh free continental breakfast. Room is always neat as a pin. Swimming pool is great and nice sauna too. Convenient to Interstate Park and everything the friendly towns of St. Croix Falls/Taylor's Falls have to offer. Excellent restaurant and bar right next door too. Stay here, you won't be sorry. read more

The owner who also works behind the desk is very rude and very excitable. The lobby is dark and dingy. No lights on behind the desk which is completely surrounded by glass, difficult to see in there to do any business. I also asked for a paper receipt and was told they don't do that. The owners family members were all sitting around in the enclosed desk area. The entire building is run down as well as the pool area. I asked how often the pool was checked for chemicals and they didn't know what I was referring to. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but this was one of the worst hotels that we have ever stayed in. From the start it was obvious this was less than a no-frills hotel. We had the following issues: 1) tiny rooms with cracked windows and no insulation. 2) there were no shelves or racks in the bathroom to store any towels, toilet paper or anything 3) we never received any room service during our stay 4) The breakfast area consisted of one bagel and two donuts and an empty pitcher of orange juice, that tasted more like orange tang. 5) no employees were ever wearing their mask correctly or even at all most of the time 6) we awoke Sunday to screaming in the hallway by the employees debating whether to clean her room or shovel the snow 7) it's just disgusting when you see bugs in your room. 8) The next-door restaurant served us horrible food with no flavor. This hotel is one of the biggest rip offs we have ever stayed at, and we have extensive travel throughout the United States and internationally. I can only hope to help other travelers to avoid this shit hole. read more

If you're looking for four or five star lodging in St. Croix Falls, you're about 75 miles in the wrong direction. In fact, lodging choices here are limited. There's a Holiday Inn Expre$$ up the hill, but if you just want a place to sleep, this is an economical alternative. The Dalles House is a large motel, an older property that looks like it was a luxurious place in its day. It's showing its age, with paint scrapes here and there but it has been updated and modernized where it counts. My room was comfortable, with a hi def TV, a refrigerator, microwave, a desk, a seating area and a large, updated bath area. The lobby is dark and moody, with wood paneling and a beautiful stone mantle around a large fireplace. Otherwise, the lobby seems to be showing it's age. There is a minimal complementary breakfast. There is a pool that I did not use. It appears it was a large, outdoor pool that was enclosed. There is a sauna but no whirlpool. I'm giving the property three stars, it's probably more like two and a half, but I would stay here again if I came back to the area. It's fine for what it is, a good place to sleep when traveling. read more

this place was awful, sheets were stained crumbs in the bed.. the smoke detector was half attached to the ceiling. Upon check out lady yelled at me in-front of my kid because I asked how to get the safety deposit back and apparently threw the room key at her( was holding my child and a bag so I dropped it on the counter). worst motel/hotel I've ever stayed in.. will never be staying again. still haven't received safety deposit and we stayed from 9pm to 6am. Online prices are a lie as well was told 86$ for two queen beds turned into 120$ plus a 60$ saftey deposit. read more

Not only did I get sick from staying here but the carpet was extremely dirty and the bathroom had no toilet paper. The rooms are extremely small and the rate was over 60 dollars a night even on a week night. I wouldn't stay here again Nor recommend it. This is the worst place I have ever stayed! The staff was rude, not to mention that I believed I was scammed for the price hike. I reserved online but called about an ADA room. The price quotes on the phone was more than the internet price, so I told her I would book online. When I got there, magically, there was not a reservation even though I had a confirmation! She told me to check my email, and after the confirmation email the was a cancelled email. She told me that I should have accepted her price on the phone! They cancelled my reservation so that when I got there I would have to pay more! Illegal, I believe! The room was terrible, no hot water, locked like a crack hotel!! The worst place I've stayed on this trip, and that includes sleeping in my car at Walmart parking lot!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS RUDE DISGUSTING PLACE!!!! Also took a deposit in case of damage. Stayed here for a triathlon just across the border in Chisago, MN. For the cost, even while cheap, you still should expect better. Half of the lights and outlets in our room didn't work. The toliet paper had obviously not been replaced since the previous room tenant. It was really low and you could just tell it had been ripped by another user. Gross. There was hair from the previous user of the room still all over the shower, shaved hair on the walls. Overall a poor room, will not be returning and will be warning others of this place. read more

If breathing clean air while you sleep is important to you, this probably isn't the place for you. We started hacking as soon as we walked in to our room. We had the same experience when we compared our friends' room down the hall. Now, to be fair, every single building we entered in the Taylors Fall, MN area had its own river town, 1960s carpet and wallpaper acridity. Our lungs protested everywhere we went, so the Dalles House wasn't unique in this sense. Even so, we weren't sure whether we'd even be able to sleep in the $174.11-a-night suite when we first arrived. Luckily, we checked in before the wedding so we were able to open the windows all the way and air it out for 7 hours before finally settling in on the four-post bed furnished with soap opera veil-type material, pillow covers and bed skirts. We shrieked in disgust every time we woke up and discovered the decades-old covers touching our faces but ultimately made it through the night. The suite was certainly spacious, in any case. The part I found oddest of all was the impressively nice jacuzzi. It would have been great to use, but for the fact that one requires breathable air to enjoy the water. We did not partake in the tanning bed down the hall, but we did puzzle over what it was doing in a motel. I guess it's best to cover all bases in a local tourist spot. If you must stay here, no need to spring for the suite (sometimes it's the last one left, I guess). Just make sure you arrive early to air it out and consider bringing your own fans. read more

I did not read the reviews before coming here, but I had a pleasant experience! It's the first time my husband and I have been in that part of town looking for vacation spots and it was honestly nice, despite the COVID. The room was spacious, service was on spot, and the bed was comfortable! The water pressure in the shower was AWESOME!! I honestly would go back again when I get back into town! Shame for those who had a bad experience, but these kinds of motels are not expected to be first class if that's what you're looking for. Honestly, the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. The "manager" would not give us the owners information nor would he give the owner our info. We checked in at 3pm and rented 3 rooms for one night. We left after checking in to go straight to a wedding and got back about 1pm. Once we actually looked at the rooms one room has broken windows, smells of stail smoke and looks to not have been cleaned and has blood stains on the blanket. Our room has broken windows, broken toilet, and stains on the blanket. We called front desk after we got back from a wedding that we went to. We called the guy at the front desk and he was very hard to understand. He was very rude and would not give us a refund nor give us the owners info. He threatened to call the cops if we did not accept the other room with the working toilet. We said we would we would stay in one of the other rooms with a extra bed since it was 1 30am in the morning which we moved our stuff to already and he said he would bot give us a refund but to give us a different room all the way across the hotel. Very unprofessional and rude. Never would recommend anyone to stay here read more

If I could make this less than a one star review I would. Where to start? It is a dump. I have never ever ever written this poorly about a hotel/motel before. Toilet didn't work properly and we had to plunge it... Go to the office and get a plunger! Sheets didn't fit properly and while sleeping came off the mattress... Go to the office and get sheets that fit because they don't enter a room during Covid. Put them on yourself! No room service... Go to the office and get your own towels... Start a huge pile in the corner of the previous day's towels...Clean? Marginally. Wait until you see the light fixtures! Fortunately refrigerator and microwave did work! Icky icky icky. Oh! And wait! The people down below (who I think work here) fought outside the hotel room for a long period of time, left the space for a while, returned... and then blasted the television until 2 AM right below us. I was hesitant to stay here after seeing the lower ratings, but I am glad I did. It gave my boyfriend a good introduction into the hospitality of Wisconsin (his first visit). People/travelers need to understand that this is an old establishment. Our room was clean. Yes it was dated, but it was just fine. Stayed there over the Fourth this year. Never again! Worn and stained carpet and bedding. No stopper in tub for a bath. Old wooden windows that have not been cleaned for a long time. Housekeeping didn't bother to pick up any trash from table or counters. My sister stayed in another room and when she found she was short of toilet paper the next day, the front desk told her to come to the front desk to get more. We had ants on the bed and she had ants in the bathroom. Veneer missing from table, dressers, and end tables. Wall lamps with hanging cord and no place to plug in. There are simply too few four letter words to describe this Motel, it's staff, and it's permanent residents. That's right... Most of the rooms are occupied full time. Otherwise, I suspect the rooms are rented by the hour. If you have children, don't let the pool fool you. The hand railings around the upper deck of the motel are slanted, loose and spaced in a way that would cause anyone under the age of 9 to fall through. The bed sheets, blanket and cover ALL have cigarette burns and holes in them. The rooms that we occupied (family gathering), all had these problems. It is not isolated. The mattresses and box springs are saggy, stained, and just unsettling. For the record, I'm not a snobby, upperclass person. Quite the opposite in fact.
