When we say we grew up at Trollhaugen, and have lived our lives here at times - we mean it. For pete's sake we've had people married here. (The most beautiful wedding and experience.) The hills are alive with the sound of a Troll's call. Everybody who works here is just wonderful - part of the family. Trollhaugen pizza is the best pizza for you and me, positively. Five star rating for a ski hill out here. This is not the type of mountain you'll find out West, but for a $24 evening ticket I couldn't say no! The ticket was valid from 9pm - 3am. It was the busiest around 10-12 and was pretty much cleared at around 1230-1am. If you're willing to stay out that late, it made for an almost non existent wait line! The hills were well lit and the chairlifts moved quickly enough that the long lines at peak time weren't so bad. When you needed refuge from the cold, they had a multi story lodge to warm up in. They offered a variety of foods with one more concession focused and another room dedicated to more of an actual restaurant. When I went inside the restaurant was not serving food so I got a small fry from the concession and it was very reasonably priced at $3.50. They also had a bar upstairs where you could get beers and I believe cocktails - they also had a live band playing the night I was there. Overall very cool hangout spot whether you are indoors or outdoors - but be sure to reserve your passes early. The passes were sold out to those who tried to get them at the door, so plan ahead! read more

Trollhaugen is literally the best skiing experience I have had in a very long time! The place itself is a time capsule that has excellent service, great ski trails (skiing through the woods is so much fun!) a surprisingly nice Ski Shop and the snow was amazing (January 5). There was still A LOT of untouched freshies to ski!!! I didn't stay long enough to check out everything (I was there for a ski racing meet) but me and my kids all agreed we need to come back! And an evening lift ticket was only $32 (we started skiing at 3:00PM). But anyone who skis should stay away from Trollhaugen so I can enjoy the place to myself read more

What a blast we had at Trollgaugen park! This was my first time zip lining and our guides were super personable and made the entire zip tour fun and gamified. They're very thorough in their Instructions and ensure everyone's safety and good time. I highly recommend going toward the end of the summer season, in fall to enjoy the colors of the trees. There are a few hikes you'll need to take so be prepared to walk up some inclines. They'll have water for you on the way. We were lucky enough to go on the last weekend of the zip lining, and are so glad! You can buy tickets on line, and be prepared to race your partner! read more

My husband and I went to the Adventure Course on Saturday and had a blast. As adults we weren't quite sure how much fun it would be, but there were definitely some challenging courses that I couldn't even finish. My husband was very resistive to going had fun and couldn't stop smiling. Staff were great and once you got trained in with how everything works you were free to explore and complete the course however you wanted. I preferred this rather than being with a group. There were a lot of courses and in over 2 hours we definitely couldn't complete them all. Staff were available at any time if you got stuck or needed help on any part of the course. I would definitely go back and I would recommend going for a fun outing. It makes for a great time whether it be for a date or out with a group of friends. read more

I'm not a skier, so don't ask me about that. It's too dangerous. But tubing down a snowy and icy hill without any steering? Much safer, and more my speed. :-) Trollhaugen has 8 groomed lanes of snow tubing. I happen to like that there are lanes and that the slope is fairly even. That way, I'm not playing bowling with the inattentive people at the bottom the hill. If you're looking to take out a toddler or third-grader or two with your innertube, this isn't the place for you, sorry! Each lane is fairly similar, but slightly different. One might be a touch faster and another might have a small hop, but otherwise, it's all the same. The conveyor belt to get up the hill is quite a bit nicer than the rope system at other places, once you get the hang of it. (For me, putting the tube first on its end in front of me helps with balance, but everyone has their own methods for jumping onto the constantly moving track.) It's kinda slow, but steady, and no rope burns or sore shoulders. It's well maintained, but pretty laid back there. You can go down in chained groups. The attendant might limit your group, so check at the top of the hill if you're not sure. If it's relatively empty on the hill, it doesn't seem to matter. The tubes themselves have an outer shell that covers the bottom hole, so you don't get as much snow in your clothes. You'll still get a mist of snow and there's snow everywhere, being that this is winter and all, so that's life on the slope. You get a two-hour slot with your admission, and it's more than enough time. They also have a bonfire outside, for warmth. Mmm, now my eyes are watering from the smoke and my clothes smell like they're burnt! But it's worth it. This place is a lot of fun! read more

Went here for the first time in about 15 years for the Friday night skiing on New Year's Eve and was reminded at what a cozy experience Trollhaugen is, and also what a GREAT deal night skiing is for only $22, especially considering crappy Afton Alps is more than 3x as much for much less of an experience that is under the umbrella of a sterile, stale environment that is always way too packed. Have to say right away Trollhaugen is ran a million times better than Afton Alps. At Afton Alps the lines are always long, the chairs lifts are super slow and there's never enough open, and now they have draconian and brainless COVID restrictions. It feels like somewhere you'd want to escape from, rather than escape to. Trollhaugen is the complete opposite in every way for the better, especially when it comes to overall ambiance and general feel. The chair lines are short, more are open, they're faster, and the chalet is a throwback to another time. When in the upstairs bar area with the thick timber and paneled ceilings, and while looking out the gigantic fog covered windows overlooking the slopes, you feel as if you could be in the Norway mountains. The place is always hopping on Friday nights with the bands playing and there's no better chalet to warm up in that I've ever been in. So much character. Even though it was below zero with forecasted windchill temps of 30-35 below zero, Trollhaugen New Years was sold out, so probably buy your tickets early in the day for night skiing, because if its sold out with this weather, it must be sold out regularly on Friday night skiing. read more

I visited for the first time ever last weekend and had a great experience. Despite coming on a Saturday when the Burton Qualifiers, staff training, and ski lessons were all taking place, it didn't feel overly crowded and the wait for the chairlift was never too long. The hills themselves offer great variety and Storebakken was my favorite route. The potential looks even greater for those visiting during peak season when all hills and lifts are open! I also got the chance to warm up in the chalet and loved both the cozy design and homemade hot chocolate for sale. My only note of caution is for new/middle-level skiers/boarders who still are weary of the chairlift, as the older lifts here do not slow down when picking up/dropping off riders, so you need to be vigilant and prepared. They also do not have safety bars. I still give five stars because there are some rope tow options and the staff running the lifts were quick to respond and slow/stop the lift if a problem arose. read more

One thing that was not awesome- the freakin tow ropes. Someone I was with had their gloves ripped to shreds by the tow rope which was a little bit of a downer. Overall an awesome night!! read more

Great place for skiing, but not so much for snow boarding. Both times I have gone they have set up courses for skiers and it really narrows down where the snow boarders can go as there aren't many steep runs to do. Also, the skiers both times going here are very rude with jumping in line, bumping into other people, not looking out for others on the hills, and just acting stupid. The ski patrol and the employees running the lifts don't do anything to stop any of this either. I asked one guy running the lift and he pretty much agreed that the kids don't know how to go around the gates and jump lines regularly. Also, the was a group of guys drinking beer on the lift and also on the course and openly talking about going to smoke pot. These guys were also peeing on the course as well because they said they got points for doing all these stupid things. I won't be coming back to Troll and I hope that something changes in the future with cutting down on the courses being set up, the line jumping, and the reckless actions of people on the slopes and in line. read more

Back in my days of skiing at Holiday Mountain in Estherville, my instructors were huge fans of Trollhaugen. They waxed poetic about the great skiing, but I suspect it was the Wisconsin bar and buddy trip options that made their adventures worthwhile. I finally went up myself one weekend and had a nice ski day with friends. However, at this time when the drinking age was 18 (!), our apres ski options were limited. Trollhaugen has been around since 1951 and features 22 runs (with 10 lifts on 80 acres of skiable terrain) and a 260 vertical drop. The longest run is 2500 feet and night skiing is available every Friday night until 3 AM! The chalet lodge is old, original, homey, and very Midwest. read more

We visited yesterday (August 15) on one of the hottest days of the year for a music and brew fest. It wasn't too crowded, the grounds were beautiful, the staff was VERY friendly and attentive. We particularly loved the Chalet and that it was air conditioned. They were VERY prepared for the heat with a beautiful deck with umbrellas and a misting and spray tent. The bathrooms were clean (thank god). We sat on the grass at the bottom of the ski hills and watched one of our favorite bands from Minneapolis perform for us at dusk and under the stars as the summer heat dissipated. It was one of the best times EVER!!! How cool is that? I will love to check this place out in the winter (my teen boys already have! And they love it!) I'll add another review then! Trollhaugen is best for their hours. They are open the latest in the evening....On weekends they close at 3 am! So if you're looking for some late night skiing/boarding this is the place to come. They're also open on a random April 20. I'm hoping I never am out there again that late in the season but it was definitely a nice day to be outside. As far as their runs go, it's pretty small and not much selection. I do like the chalet. It has some charm to it. read more

An excellent place for beginning skiers. We are very pleased with the Troll School our daughter attends. The hills are not exciting for expert skiers but it's an excellent place for a family ski. Bring in your food and eat on the first floor or head to the lounge for a Bloody Mary apres ski. The food is just so-so, we stick to the cheese curds and tater tots. read more

A few of us brought the kids up for a couple hours of tubing. Kids had a blast, but as we sat around the fire some older gentleman drove past us off in the snow to the bottom of the hill (not sure if an issue with something) rather abruptly and then on his way out stopped by to basically yell at us regarding the fire. He stated "I know the wood is green but you don't need a fire this high (he held his hands about 4' in the air and to be honest we were lucky if we had 6" flames due to the green wood)", there were other words that I can't recall exactly and don't want to put them out there. We really weren't sure how to respond to this, because as he said the wood was green and we had multiple logs around the outer part of the fire drying out. It's understandable if he felt there was to much wood in there, but as far as customer service goes he totally struck out. It was my first time bringing someone tubing here....thought the fire was a great idea, but the customer service could have been 100 times better on his part........ read more

This place was SO MUCH FUN. We zip lined around and climbed all over the adventure park. The adventure park ranged from semi hard to professional technicality with obstacles way up in the air. The cables were pruned, no stands of wire to poke you, and it was very well maintained. I'd totally come back to here if I was in the area. Brought my 6 year old on Monday morning 2/8/21. Asked for a private lesson as she had never been on ski's and I wanted her to have a successful start. They whole place pulled together as a team and found an instructor that could do this on short notice. Also, while this was happening, the retail store found me some proper gloves and an outdoor face covering for my daughter. Extremely reasonable pricing. I really felt like they took the time to care. I took my daughter down the stairs and they outfitted us with the rental gear and helmets, which was beyond efficient. As we were getting our stuff on, one of the directors came down and made sure we knew where the instructor was going to meet us. Talk about making sure we were taken care of. Nice work!! The instructor , Tim, was fantastic!!. My daughter was skiing down the bunny hill within 20 minutes... until she needed a hot chocolate. We skipped out on the rest of the lesson. However, Tim made sure to give me some more tips if she decided to go back at it. Well, he probably didn't see this, but she did go back out and I had to pull her off the hill at 4PM (we arrived at 11 AM). That doesn't happen with a 6 year old. I want to add; even the person inside the booth that watches the tow rope, made a point to come out and ask me if I would like to try a similar small hill on the back side. He even handed me a map to help show me. Needless to say, both dad and daughter had a great time doing something we both could participate together in. The snow was well groomed and was overall a good night of riding yesterday. However, the listed time for closing was 9:00pm and this was not the case. There were two chair lifts open during my time there and one of those chair lifts closed shortly before 8:40 pm. Me and my party were fine with this as the other chair lift was still open. As we got on the other chairlift a little before 8:45pm, the chairlift operator informed us that this would be our last run. We could have easily made it down two more times. If you plan on going here before the seasons over, note that they actually close 15 minutes prior to any hours they tell you as well as their listed hours. read more

The food has always treated me right along with the whiskey sours. Add some laps in the terrain park and you've got yourself a good time. 6 zip lines open for all adventure seekers. Great way to get your blood pumping and those eyes smiling. Start early so you have time for the aerial challenge course which is...challenging. Four levels of obstacle course. Great for teaching safety with the, always locked in,system. Challenges the logic skills at a good height. I have heard that the employees have had to rescue people that don't know their limits, don't stop and need to be rescued. I did not make it to the black level. The hardest level. I was exhausted. That gives me a good reason to go back. Oh and when you go once, then you get $10 off the next time you go.
