Went to this place to purchase clothing for me and my girlfriend for a wedding. Just picked it from the internet. Not being Indian, we wanted to go to an authentic business to ask for advice and get some direction. We encountered two female sales people who were seemingly annoyed by us. We went here already intimidated and feeling out of place but these women intensified this by needing to be asked to assist us. We explained that we were going to a friend's formal Indian wedding and had no idea what would be appropriate to wear and she was dismissive and pointed to where the men's clothing was for me and where the dresses were for my girlfriend. As we were trying to select what we thought was appropriate, we were warned that they would be closing in 15 minutes. We had questions but it was difficult to get help. Oddly, the other customers in the store seemed to feel the tension and offered their assistance, even complimenting my girlfriend on how nice she looked in one of the dresses she was trying on. While I don't have much to compare it to, it seemed rather pricey. Dresses started at $350 but some were on sale for 20% off. I saw some that were as expensive as $3500 but they seemed very beautifully made. Overall, we left very disenchanted. Because the wedding is on Friday, we really didn't have many options to go elsewhere so we purchased what we thought would be acceptable. When I asked what type of shoes would go with the outfit I purchased, the woman simply said "any shoes are fine." It definitely seemed as if this establishment does not welcome people outside of their own culture - even though I was very careful to be respectful and complementary of their merchandise. It's all really elaborate and overall pretty cool. We are both looking forward to a taste of a friend's culture and to wear these really interesting clothes. read more

They have a good selection of clothing and would make more sales and have better reviews if the people working there were actually nice. I went a couple weeks ago to go bridal shopping and was only allowed to try on TWO outfits because my wedding was "too far away." I went shopping in Decmeber for a September wedding. I have a busy work schedule and don't live around the area so this was the best time for me to go shopping. I ended up getting my bridal lehenga and reception outfit from another store a couple days later. I don't plan on going here again. I don't appreciate being accused of wasting their time and "ruining" their dresses (by wanting to try on more than 2 dresses) because I went shopping 8 months before my wedding and wanted to try on outfits before spending a lot of money on a non-refundable outfit. read more

It has been a few years since I have been here but I have bought many kurtas and even my sangeet Sharwani here (around 2017-2020). Today, I came from three states away to shop here and the owner lady was so rude and dismissive. She told me I have no style and she walked away from me. There's a decent selection of clothing here both for adults and children (which can be hard to find), but the owner of the establishment is incredibly rude and unwelcoming. 1/4 of the store is for children, and we brought our 3 year old to figure out her size and buy 3 outfits. The owner made a number of statements during our visit which were rude and unprofessional especially when directed at a child. If you don't want to cater to children, don't carry kids clothes. Statements that were made: - "Don't stand in the mat" ( by the door, the bell rings. Our daughter was waving goodbye to family who was leaving which apparently was bothering the owner.) - "Don't bring the stroller near the clothes." Probably the worst place you can go to for Indian dresses. It's a shame because they do have a good selection. The problem is the sales ladies are completely useless in knowledge and all they care about is if you will buy something. We started looking and then it was all pressure if we were buying. We were almost about to spend $1200 and luckily we decided to have dinner and come back. That's when we realized that it was buy now or get cursed at. If I could give zero stars I would- I looked at a men's outfit here on a Sunday for $130 and 4 days later they listed the price as $180 and when I asked about the price difference I was told that the "10% off sale makes up for the difference". 10% off of 180 is 162, not 130. I was then told the price was raised because they got more stock of the same outfit. Sales team was incredibly rude throughout the process, followed me around the store like I was going to shoplift their overpriced designer knock offs. I was then falsely accused of taking a picture when my phone wasn't even in my hand. Aside from the fact that the staff was wrong and unnecessarily accusatory 1) you have a website displaying your merchandise 2) if real designers like Sabyasachi and Shymal & Bhumika can display their merchandise via pictures, you should join this century and stop acting like you keep the Hope Diamond in your store. Love this store. Number 1 go to for any desi event. Walk in and the spectacular dazzle will take your breath away. An elite class shopping experience. Staff is welcoming and courteous and exhibit polite and professional behavior at all times. Amrita Singh is a sweetheart. Not your typical "I don't care" attitude. Staff here loves to help you out whether it be your first time shopping desi attire or you're a returning customer. They work hard to keep the place sanitary (specially important during these COVID times) and up to the standard. Prices here are fair and beat competition by a far mile. The clothes are nice, but the staff is absolutely horrible! In particular, the owner (Pinky) is incredibly rude and seems to lack manners. My wife came into the store, and decided to put 5 outfits to the side because she wasn't allowed to try them on. The store has a policy where you can only try on 3 items (which is a little ridiculous). So my wife really liked these outfits, but decided to have them be put on hold so that she could come in the next day to try them on since she had already met her 3 item limit. When she told me about the situation, I told her not to worry and that she should splurge on the items as an early anniversary gift. We came in the next day, $6000.00 in cash in hand and I was ready to purchase all 5 of them for her. To our surprise, the staff told us that they no longer had the items because Pinky (the store owner) decided that the items that were set aside "matched her style" and chose to buy all 5 of them for herself. We were in absolute shock and disbelief. The staff wasn't apologetic, nor did they offer us other options that were similar. They just stated the information and basically told us 'tough luck.' I haven't met people with such poor attitudes and a cheap way of behaving in a very long time. I would never recommend this place to anyone. What an awful experience. We did shopping last at this location in later parts of 2019. Bought stuff but will never ever step in this store or recommend anyone to go there. They do not deserve the business. So I've been here twice now and while I love the clothes the shopping experience here is beyond terrible. 1. The staff treats you either as you can't afford anything in there, or like you don't belong there. They will follow you around. 2. They don't like it if you touch their clothes, even when trying them on they limit what you're allowed, they also act super annoyed toward you if you decide to try anything on. 3. The owner is extremely rude. My mom was looking at sarees, she would unfold them on her own to see and fold them back up (better than their were folded before) and put it back to see another, the owner snapped at her saying she wasn't allowed to look on her own because she would damage them. Yet when the staff came over to open sarees and show them to her they were soooo rude about it, seemed so annoyed and wouldn't let her look at more than 3! 4. My cousin tried on a gown, but wanted to see if the bottom style of another would look good with the top style she had on. So I folded the other gown and held it up to her waist to see, the staff snatched the dress out of my hands and told me I was going to damage it. She hung it up and walked away. 5. I tried on a lehenga that I clearly pointed out was ripped before taking to the fitting room. They accused me of ripping it until the staff member I had told came to explain that it was like that. They also decided to clearly tell me they refuse to pay for any stitching to fix it, or to discount it before I could even say whether I was interested or not. read more

I had a superb experience shopping at Daminis for my own bridal outfits; as well as for outfits for my fiance and for my family. My fiance is Indian, but I am not; I went to Daminis with some idea of what I was looking for, and my family needed a lot of guidance. The Daminis staff did a great job working with all 6 of us and we all left having completed our entire shopping lists, and really excited about what we found. Splitting this review into two parts: Clothing: The selection is highly curated, and is certainly high end, but is not exclusively full of designer, break-the-bank clothes. You can do very well here for a few hundred dollars and do not need to stretch into the thousands unless you prefer to. I was very impressed by the selection especially as I went in ready to explore. If you have an extremely specific idea of what you want, they may or may not have it. (Some, but not all, of their selection can be modified by the designers -- e.g., gowns converted to lehengas.) Service: My impression is that the owner and staff work hard to create a boutique, salon-like atmosphere that preserves the integrity and condition of the clothing they sell. They courteously asked me not to walk around too long in any outfit (to keep it in top shape), and their staff "followed" me to pull the outfits and gather them at the fitting room. I did not feel this came from a place of condescension, but from a desire to provide a different experience and preserve each outfit for its ultimate buyer. If you think about their strategy, it makes sense; but it will not appeal to a shopper who prefers things to be self-serve and quick. Furthermore, they really helped me refine a vision for what I wanted and find options I might not have considered myself (for example, a gorgeous bridal sari that was fancy enough to be married in, but understated enough to wear again). For me that is the mark of a team who know what they are doing. Summary: if you like a curated, high-quality selection and are seeking a boutique/salon experience, and are ready to spend a bit on a special occasion, Daminis is excellent. read more

What a variety of gorgeous clothes for me to choose from! I was amazed! I actually found three things to wear and had a tough time choosing which one to purchase. There are plenty of very beautiful pieces of clothing here for men, women and children. However the owner and the lady that was helping us were incredibly rude. We told them that we were traveling from Colorado and needed to buy several pieces for my daughter the bride. It was extremely disappointing that they chose to enforce their policy of only being able to try on 3 pieces and making assumptions on what we could or couldn't afford. When my daughter pointed out a lehenga she wanted to try on they kept pointing out the price. It is beyond comprehension how she expects customers to buy these very expensive pieces without trying them on specially with a no return policy. I asked if it was COVID related she said "no just don't want people to try cloths on without buying them" - I think she is in the wrong business. Her loss!! We ended up spending about $15,000 at a couple of stores a few blocks down , with a very lovely owner and an amazing tailor for alterations. Plenty of other options in Edison!!! read more

This is my first time ever looking for an Indian style dress for a wedding. The store is huge with a extravagant selection of Indian clothing to meet any budget. The salesperson was kind and very helpful, as she measured us and directed us to the section that was to our liking as far as style went. There was another woman there, clearly an owner or possibly just a manager, who definitely needs some more training in customer service. She seemed very cold and not very hospitable. Very condescending in how she treats you. After being told that I may not use their restroom ( we drove over an hour to get there), I was told that photos cannot be taken in the store. We simply just wanted to get another family member's opinion before we purchased the item. I did find something nice, but I will never shop there again. read more
