This review is not so much about the quality of work they did on my shoe but rather the overpriced work they did on my shoe. For over 50 years I have had to wear a 3/4" lift on one of my shoe due to polio. So I am well familiar of the price range it costs to put this size of lift on my shoe. When they quoted me the price, I wanted to walk out on them but decided against it because I was already there and I am new to Baltimore. They knew how much other shoe repair charged and their argument for adding an additional $50 to the $100 that other places charge was their quality of work was better. No, their quality of work was not better and there is nothing special that they did that justify the 50% mark up. It was equal to other places I have gone to across the US. Their service wasn't better either as I have had quicker and just as good quality of work as they did. Dan Brothers are a rip off! They should provide fair pricing. read more

I took tall boots, short boots, pumps and flats to them (and do so annually. I am hard on heels, so I go through shoes quickly. Tired of throwing out hundreds to replace shoes that still look otherwise okay, a few years ago, I found Dan Brothers. This shop is now my once a year maintenance stop. If I could give this store 8 stars I would. Had a pair of very special (& extremely old) cowboy boots that I took to Dan Brothers on Wednesday 10/23/2019. I'm wearing them for my wedding in December and they needed some serious TLC. I was nicely greeted by both Sanjeev, Selvin, and Louie immediately upon walking in They did an entire resole-ing of both boots, polished and redid the heels and stitching... in less than 24 hours. They sent me a text that my boots were ready to go less than 20 hours after I dropped them off. Great pricing too. The craftsmanship was genuinely second to none. See attached photos, they will make my mother (who bought me the boots, cry when she sees them she'll be so happy. Also, Selvin kept the shop open late just so I'd be able to pick them up on a Thursday when he easily could've closed the shop upon me calling, saying I was running late. A+ service across the board. Great business! They really take their care with your shoes and don't overcharge. I've gotten heel bottoms fixed on some leather heels and most recently took in some leather flats that were superrr scuffed up on the back. They gave me 2 options of how they could fix them and told me the two different prices. I appreciated they gave me an option! My coworker recommended this shoe store and I brought in a pair of pink suede boots that had gotten greasy black stains on the heel from accidentally touching the DC metro escalators. I wasn't expecting much because the stain had happened months ago, but I asked them to do their best and was willing to give it a shot for $20. I got the shoes back today and they are pristine. They also reduced considerably the blue stains around the top of the boot from my blue jeans. The shoes are beautiful and I am extremely happy with the work they did. But trust me, having someone help you find what you're looking for, getting the size you need, and making sure you're happy with your purchase is actually a good thing. If you're used to trundling around the men's side of DSW and digging through boxes, treat yourself to a visit to Dan Brothers. I seem to have two modes of shoes: dress, and very casual. Any time I aim for the middle ground, I end up with either something that looks like a utility boot or an Oxford with a rubber sole. So, basically I went in and after a few minutes to get oriented, picked up a brown buck Docksider, and said "I want something about this level of casual, but not a boat shoe, and a slip-on." After a couple options that looked good turning out not to fit in the sizes in stock, I was about ready to call it quits when the salesman pointed out a full-grain leather Venetian slip-on in chocolate brown. They looked good, fit great, and even though I wasn't in the market to pay Johnston & Murphy prices for a pair of casual shoes, they knocked some off the price since they didn't have the others in my size. Damned things are the most comfortable shoes I own, now. Dan Bros. also has the largest selection of stylish big men's shoes I've seen in one place. If you're a size 14 or up, this is your shop. I brought a pair of suede & leather Anthro heels in for their seasonal cleaning & repair. They sloppily cemented the strap and had to repunch the holes (this was after I had left, realized the shoe was unusable & came back in to request the fix). They cleaned the suede but didn't touch the leather or even wipe down the heel. Bare minimum service for over $20. I'll look elsewhere next time I need my shoes worked on. read more

My grandmother's cowboy boots fell apart (soles came completely off), with so much love (wear and tear). Bass brand, genuine leather. I knew of this guy in Fed Hill and after traveling for my job for two years, made it a point to take him these boots when I was back in the area. Didn't know how good he would be, but I don't know of many shoe repair places. The boots could have been from Walmart for all I care, they were my grandmother's, and I wanted them fixed and to be able to wear them. I walked in, and there were a ton of cowboy boots in the store and also shoes that appeared to be genuine leather. I felt good about dropping them off, even in the shape they were in, and I made it a point to tell him that they were my grandmother's. I trusted him and paid what he asked...because I was willing to pay $75 for a good repair. They were done in less than a week; and I was nervous to see them, hoping and praying they would be the same boot, but better. They came out polished, new soles intact. I waited a little before writing a review, because I wanted to put them through the ringer to see how they held up. I've worn them once so far. They are tighter than they were, but I'm hoping they loosen up after some more wear. I am also only a little skeptical to see how well the soles stick on there, because you can see (with close inspection), that they are not made particularly for that boot. I am very happy with them right now, and I will update the review if for any reason that changes. I went to take my shoes to Bill Graves Shoe Repair but there was a sign on the door saying that they moved locations to Dan Brothers. It's on the same block, so I trusted the sign and took my shoes to Dan Brothers. I needed to get 3 shoes waxed and 1 heel replaced although I was convinced to replace the heel on a second pair. The man who was helping me attempted to up-sell many other services, including replacing the sole. He may be right, I'm not saying he wasn't. But he brought out samples and showed me a finished product and it was all a little much. I just want to drop my shoes and be done with it. I believe it cost $25 for a heel replacement (which includes cleaning/waxing) and $6 for just cleaning/waxing. This was a little more than I was expecting. I only had a heel replaced once before up in Boston 2 years prior and the guy only charged me $10. That being said, the service was exceptional. The replacement heel was seamless, and the shoes shined brilliantly. read more
