Kinda bummed about this place. I'm in town for a conference and yesterday the lift came off my shoe. The sound of the metal against the floor was driving me mad, and I don't need help being clumsy and sliding around. I looked online and this place said it was open at 9, so I skipped breakfast and walked over. Shame on me for trusting the web and not confirming with a phone call. After a 30 minute walk I got there and found a note on the gate that said they were closed for the week. Would have been nice if their on line hours would have reflected that. read more

Stopped in to see about getting my most comfortable clogs in the history of clogdom repaired. Showed the cobbler my handful of nails, stitches and bandaids, hoping he could work magic. He looked them over, exhaled sharply, and said he could not, that I'd worn them to bits. He told me to buy a new pair and to stretch them out, to approximate the comfort these give me. He said he knew it wouldn't be the same, and that he felt my pain for the loss of shoe friends. I appreciate his honesty, as I might have paid for a lie. Resolving to wear these things only on sunny days, I left the shop feeling great respect for this business. And a sudden enthusiasm to go shoe shopping. read more

I was pretty disappointed in this place. I took in my name-brand winter coat for zipper repair. I was originally quoted a week, which I was fine with. My coat was not ready until THREE weeks later, this was frustrating because this was the dead of winter of course making it time sensitive matter, which I made very clear. I go to pick up my coat for the man to tell me that my initial zipper piece ( that was custom to the coat )was lost. I understand things happen but they made less than feeble attempts to communicate that the job was taking longer than expected OR replace the 'lost piece' and did not offer a refund or discounted price. I could not believe I had to wait an additional two weeks only for them to loose the most important piece of the job. I make it a point to support small businesses, I wanted to be a repeating customer but I just do not feel comfortable bringing back time sensitive/ expensive pieces. Quick, courteous, and professional service. I've just recently moved to Baltimore from Paris; happy to find a shop whose service met my expectations. A leather color match and repair was performed on a nude pointy-toed pump, and non-skid installed on another pair while I waited. I'll be a repeat customer for sure. read more

If you want cheap, go somewhere else. If you want quality, go here. I brought my boots that had the heels pretty much falling off that I tried to repair with glue (dumb move, I know) to J H Shoe Repair. They asked me how much I liked the shoes, I said I liked them a lot. They gave me a price and let me know my boots had hallow heels and they were going to replace them with leather heels and a thick heel. I was a little iffy when they quoted me the price, but then they said I could either buy new boots every season because I wear them out, or I could have these boots for another 10 years or so. Their craftsmanship is totally worth the price. They also have great customer service. I didn't totally love the area the store is located in, but it was worth it to have them bring my shoes back to life! read more

I had my heels replaced after i wore them out. I was in and out in 5 minutes! and my shoes look great!

He repaired two of my boat shoes for a reasonable price and very quickly. It was very good work and they look and function well.

Don't judge this book by its cover. It may not be the best location but the service was great. Had three pairs of heels fixed in thirty mins for 36$. They were very nice and accommodating. I needed the one pair for a wedding that day! Very happy with the service. read more

Igor and the guys at J & H will always be my favorite cobblers. I drive from the Washington metro area to take my shoes to them... seriously. The thing I like most about J & H is the price. They'll put a perfect new set of tips (those black plastic bits) on my favorite high heels for $7 or $9. If I've run around drunk in the shoes much longer that I should have after losing the tip in some grate and the heel needs building up plus a new tip, the charge will be $11 or $13. Amazing! My second favorite thing about J & H is that the guys will bargain with me about the price, which I really like. It's so rare to find merchants who are actually comfortable with haggling in the States. This means a little extra fun for me every time I go in. (To be clear, this means they are overcharging you a bit if you are not bargaining with them.) They will try to sell your shoes if you leave them more than a week or so after you promised to pick them up. But that's just fine with me: in fact, I like that I know where I stand with these guys. None of that fake "we'll do anything you need" garbage. It's a business, and I'm cool with that. I wouldn't take super high-end shoes to them--Baltimore doesn't deal well with that fancy shit. I don't own any pairs over $200, so for me J & H is perfect. Note that the Monument Street address that appears in some searches is wrong. They moved to Chester a while ago. read more

Great job with the reheeling of my Frye boots - they looked like new! The only disappointment was it was quite expensive for reheeling (although maybe I've just been to inexpensive places) and the bottoms were very slick - I had to purposely scuff up the bottoms so I wouldn't slip. read more

They were great. Had them repair and finish my Sendra boots (heel) and my fiancé's beautiful Prada shoes (shine, heel/sole). They did a fabulous job. I really trust them and they definitely know what they are doing! If you don't want your shoes to be super shiny (i.e. you like them more matte) let them know because their default is to shine them up very nicely. Great costumer service. read more

J&H resoled my boots with tough Vibram soles within 30 minutes for $65. Great deal and great service. Before I left, they polished these fairly worn boots so thoroughly that they look like new. read more

He had done a nice repair on a shoe several years earlier but after this visit I might not be back. I went to him to get a hole made in a nylon watch strap for the back heart sensor. He hammered a hole in, destroyed the strap and charged me 8 bucks. I could have made that kind of a sloppy hole myself. read more
