Update: go a resole on the bottom of the shoe after only wearing them a couple times the sole is peeling off and when he finsihed the resole there was glue all over the sole of the shoe very very very sloppy job the shoes I brought in were about 200 dollars I don't not recommend bringing luxury shoes in here. I forgot how much I absolutely love and adore Mr. Jack.. After moving away from the area over 17 years ago, the hours and distance caused for several unfortunate experiences with other cobblers. However, Mr. Jack has proven that sometimes you have to travel the distance to get what you want! He has always been consistent and his prices are reasonable, always a quick turnaround, guaranteed customer satisfaction and quality of assurance with convenient hours. He replaced taps on two (2) pairs of shoes and remounted a boot heel for a total of $34 within two (2) days. Jack's shoe repair was a saving grace!! A strap connected between the sole and the base of an older pair of sandals had fallen out and Jack was quick and kind with his service. He explained that since the glue was old it had worn down with wear and he would just have to adjust and reattach the shoe. So quick and very pleasant service for not a big price tag. I thought I would venture from my usual drop off at the mall and check out Jack's Shoe Repair. On appearance, it doesn't look like much. It's a tiny shop tucked into an unexciting, small strip mall off on York Road. BUT don't judge a book by it's cover. What it is lacking in appearance and marketing, it makes up for it in the finished shoe product. I dropped off a bag of men's and women's shoes. What I got back in return in a few days were perfectly repaired heels and soles plus my shoes were polished and cleaned, too. I had pumps and boots with the typical small heel and a pair of men's dress shoes with a wider heel. The boots usually need a good overhaul after a rough winter. Everything came back looking great! I was impressed and happy with the finished product. Overall, great price and great work! I will return with my shoes. It isn't fancy, but you can tell the cobbler/owner has high standards for his work. They don't take credit cards, so make sure you bring cash or check so they can start the repair work on your shoes. read more

I needed heel tips replaced on two pairs of high heels. Probably something I could do myself, but I decided to get a pro to do it. I dropped my shoes on a Monday at Jack's Shoe Repair. A woman took the shoes, told me to come back on Wednesday to pick them up, and gave me a claim ticket. Wednesday, I stopped in to pick them and a man (Jack?) was there. I gave him the ticket and he couldn't find my shoes. The store is FILLED with shoes in bags. Shoes on shelves, shoes in boxes, shoes thrown in piles. And they seem to be totally disorganized with no rhyme or reason to how they are stored. I was certain that I was never going to see my shoes again. However, after about 5 minutes, he had found them in a box filled with shoes under the counter, and they hadn't been touched. He asked me to wait. It took about 25 minutes for him to fix my shoes. In the meantime, about 5 other customers came in. If they were dropping off, he gave them a ticket and they left. If they were picking up, he couldn't find their shoes, and then they weren't done. Finally, he gave me my shoes, which had the heel tips replaced, plus they were shined and the scrapes on the back of the heels from where I regularly fall into cracks in the sidewalk were repaired. So, in the end, I definitely got my moneys worth. However, I would have just waited to begin with if I'd known I was going to have to wait. So, if you are thinking of getting repairs done, first consider just waiting while they repair your shoes. That way, you know they won't lose them and it will get done. If you want to drop off, I would definitely recommend putting the shoes into a bag that is not white or clear plastic (because 99% of the shoes in the shop are in bags that are either while or clear plastic), so that they are easier to find. read more

I had worn a heel to the metal, and the leather heel itself was a bit shredded. I took it to jack's for repair. He suggested I get the other heel done at the same time since it was the original and originals don't last. I took his advice and paid $10 for both. I should note that he told the customer in front of me that she did NOT need both; so seems like he gives honest advice based on what he sees. I picked up the shoes a week later and they look brand new. Not sure how he fixed the shredded leather (on top of capping both heels), but I'm very happy with the result! read more

Jack's Shoe Repair is located in a poorly-lit hallway of a building that almost looks like it is closed and out of business. However, when you walk into the store it is crammed with shoes in various states of repair, a good selection of shoe polishes, shoe brushes, shoe laces, etc. And the place has a nice leather smell. The man who works there was with a customer and then took a phone call with another customer, so I had to wait about 10 minutes until he was free. He was a little brusque, but not rude, just busy-sounding. This place might be fine for heel replacements or a simple polish, but I needed a snap to be replaced on a knee-high leather boot. The snap covers the zipper clasp at the top of boot and hits at the top part of the calf behind the back of the knee. (The zipper goes down the length of the back of the boot.) The man who works there said he could repair, but would have to replace the snaps on both boots as he did not have any leather covered snaps to match the original ones. He showed me snap samples he had in stock and I was very excited about the decorative flat silver metal snaps I picked, as I thought they would give the boots a more edgy look. He gave me a ticket and said to come back in a week. Even though I offered, he did not accept a deposit. I was away on business and waited 2 1/2 weeks to get my shoes, but when I did, they were not ready! Even worse, it took a half hour to figure this out . . . A woman was working at the shoe store on that day. (She said she was the wife of the man who usually works there.) I gave her my ticket, and then watched her go through every pair of shoes (hundreds) in search of mine. She kept apologizing for not being able to find them. I started helping her go through the bags. (This should have been a clue that things might not bode well . . . ) Finally, she found my boots sitting in a pile of shoes. I really should have taken my boots back then, but the woman was so upset and apologetic. She promised her husband would call me when the shoes were ready, so I left. Two more weeks went by, but I didn't hear back from Jack's. Finally, I called and the man answered and said the shoes would be ready at the end of the week. This time, I called before going to pick them up, and confirmed they were ready. When I got to Jack's another customer, picking up about five pairs of shoes, was ahead of me. (His shoes looked like they were just getting polished, and they looked fine.) It was about 10-15 minutes before I could be waited on. Finally, when I did get my boots, I was hugely disappointed. Only the broken snap had been replaced. The nice shiny metal snap I had picked was used, but it was painted over with a flat black color, and the paint was sticky/rubbery like an acrylic paint. (It may have still been wet, but by the time I got home with the boot, part of the paint had chipped off and the shiny silver was peeking through. After wearing the boots twice, all of the black paint has chipped off and it is very obvious that the two snaps do not match.) I told the man that I wanted the silver snaps I had picked to be used for both boots. He said he couldn't do it, and this was better. I said again that I wanted the silver snaps and that now the snaps didn't match. (Not only are they two different colors, but the shiny silver snap is the size of a nickel and the original leather covered snap is the size of a dime.) The man said no one would notice. It is not a big deal. I told him again that this was not what I wanted. (These are expensive leather boots that I wear with dresses/skirts to go out in.) He said that in order to do what I wanted he would have to replace the entire leather strap that holds the snap. Again he insisted that what he did was good -- no big deal. It was obvious then that he wasn't going to repair them as I wanted (or maybe he couldn't do it?) I wish he had been upfront about it in the beginning as it would have saved a lot of time. I should have pressed for my money back, but I was stunned, ticked and just wanted to get the hexx out of there. He must have sensed this, as he only charged me six dollars. Took a pair of heels in to Jack's to be repaired a few weeks ago. The heel tips had been worn down to the metal and I was worried I'd have to toss them. It took 2 days for them to be fixed and only cost $12. Compared to the price of the shoes, my favorite pair of Sam Edelman pumps, it was a great deal. They even sprayed them with a fabric dye to cover some faded areas, the heels were a suede material. They look brand new! Will definitely come back. read more

Awesome. Like the earlier reviews, the place doesn't look like much from the outside but their services are flawless. I've been coming to Jacks for many years before moving out of state (still I come here when I am in town) for all of my shoe repairs and reconditioning. You can trust them with your nice, pricey shoes of all styles and colors and make those puppies last!!! I've had Dr Marten's soles replaced when I was in high school and now that I've matured into more.. ahem.. lady-like heels, I continue to come here for regular lift replacements, new inserts, suede reconditioning, strap repairs, sole replacements, etc. Quick service, same day available for simple work upon request. read more

I haven't needed shoes repaired in years, and wasn't sure where to go in this area. Based on Yelp reviews, I took my shoes to Jack's. It was initially promising, because he gave me a 2-day turnaround on 3 pairs of boots (1 needed new heels, 2 needed to be shined), and with reasonable pricing ($25 total), and he did not ask me for an 80% deposit despite the sign by the register. However, when I went to pick them up around the time he said they would be done, I had to wait 20 minutes while he located all 3 pairs of shoes, and then while he actually did the work. He was not ready at all. Nice man, but I would have rather he gave me a longer wait time and been ready than make me wait for him to do the work when I arrive to pick them up. On one pair, the new heel had already been put on, but I expected it to look a little nicer. Also, a little bit of the rubber on the sole had been coming away on the side, and the glue he used didn't look like it would hold very long... we'll see. For the other 2 shoes, he shined them while I waited, and when the first pair came back he had only shined the toe area, and I had to ask him to shine the heel area too where it had a few scuffs. My 21yr old found my late 1980's black cowboy boots in my closet and has worn them for the past few years. Vintage cowboy boots! They were in very good condition when she found them, but 3 years later, they had leather nicks, a hole in the sole, needed heel replacements and a good polish. For about $50 she now has refurbished boots. I just mailed them to her at college and she couldn't believe how good they look. We just might get another few years out of the vintage boots! We also had heels replaced on J Crew boots and replaced a heel on Jack Rogers sandals. Great prices and great repairs. The best thing is the polishing of the shoes! I dropped off 2 pairs of sneakers to have the heels fixed. When I showed up at 9:00am, there was a sign in the shop window that said return by 9:10 so I waited... The lady didn't return until 9:30. When I asked how much for the repairs, the lady couldn't give me price but said to call back and get price. Finally got hold of the man 3 days later and was told $20 per pair and they would be done that day. I advised I'd stop in next day. Couldn't get there until 5 days later and when I showed up at 9:00am, the door was locked AGAIN and there was a sign that said return at 9:10. I ran other errands and came back about a hour later. Gave the man my ticket and he looked puzzled. Came back with a bag of my shoes and said they aren't done yet "he couldn't get to them" and asked if I come back later that day. UGH! I'm not local so I wouldn't get back for a few more days. Fast forward 3 days to today and I called the shop at 8:10 am and 8:30 am and there was no answer. Drove to the shop to check on shoes and.... NOT DONE! Took my shoes back and went to JR's Shoe repair in Timonium. WHAT A WASTE OF MY TIME! FYI- Jack is not the owner.
