With a range of levels from…read moreintroductory basics to advanced, and many styles and instructors to choose from, you will find a teacher for you. As with any group class, give yourself some space to try a few different teachers until you find the one(s) you enjoy the most! The owner, Shawn, and desk staff are friendly and helpful; always happy to answer questions about levels, styles, and instructors. My go to is Arianna Hyatt. She teaches well rounded true to level classes (read the class description and know thyself). She motivates and encourages dancers to meet their goals, whether that is fun, fitness, training for an audition, getting back to dance after a hiatus, or perhaps all of the above. She provides a supportive environment while offering technique, structure, and a little challenge - if that is what you're after. The community she's cultivated within every class is palpable. If you're a beginning/intermediate or advanced level dancer, looking for ballet, broadway, or tap, definitely check the schedule for her. (Double check the level as she teaches a variety.) If you're on the fence, I'd say find any class that interests you at the studio and give it a try!

The format…read morechanged from the last time I went, which was split into half ish--hip hop cardio dance then followed by more focused movements. Current format is more broken down steps, on repeat, then more added to one song. Basically, you're learning a choreography. It's kind of challenging for me. Makes my brain and body work a bit harder to be in sync. There's also an abs section. I do love the new format, but I personally like the nonstop hip hop dance better just because I like nonstop cardio! LOL They offer a lot of classes & the owner is nice, mellow, yet fun personality. She always makes it a point to say our names/greet us. Appreciate that gesture!

In the decade that we have been with this amazing studio, we have always had such a wonderful experience as both a rec and a competition family. We have participated in 11 recitals and in recent years, numerous competitions. In my experience they are all run like a well-oiled machine. They have rules and processes in place primarily to keep our children safe and to ensure everything runs smoothly and to create a great experience for the hundreds (thousands?) of students and parents. If you have common sense and are a decent person, it's not hard to understand why the studio runs things the way they do. ALL of the staff and teachers are exceptional and I love having the peace of mind that my children are receiving excellent training in a loving, safe and positive environment. This studio is truly my daughter's second home and there's nowhere else we'd rather be. We are so grateful for our wonderful dance family!

At Focus she has studied ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, acro/tumbling, contemporary, and hip-hop. Her teachers have always been superb and the variety and quality of the instruction at Focus is far superior to that of her former dance studio. Through dance she has learned grace, rhythm, and balance. Through dancing at Focus she has learned, friendship, teamwork, and determination. The highlight of each dance season is the annual Concert (don't call it a recital!) that Focus produces in June at the end of the School year at the Barclay Theater on the UCI campus. Not only does it give the dancers the opportunity to be exposed to a "real" dance production, it is a delight for the parents, grandparents, and friends to watch their children perform on the big stage, in fabulous costumes with proper stage lighting and sound and hair and makeup. It's worth every penny!

On one occasion, the owner spoke with the teacher for over 10 minutes while the children were left waiting. When I pointed out that 15 minutes of class time had already passed, she responded that she was the owner and was discussing competition-related matters for another class. Those discussions could have taken place outside of class time, rather than at the expense of my children's paid lesson. She then suggested that we request a free class voucher. However, the issue is not about receiving another class--we attend at the scheduled time because that is when we are available. Scheduling an additional makeup class does not truly compensate for the lost time and requires us to make an extra trip, which is inconvenient and unnecessary.

Dance arts of OC is a great studio for adult ballet. First off, it's a great value class with…read moreclasses spanning 1.5 hours. The 9am (schedule may change) beginning ballet is best for those with prior ballet experience with adults of all ages and skill levels. For those with little to no experience, the Intro to ballet class is ideal. I have taken the classes of many teachers here and they are all fantastic. Joan especially is passionate and helps guide technique and has great attention to detail. I'm also grateful for Sara and Janessa. Hair and clothing is quite flexible. I choose to wear workout leggings and a form fitting top, and ballet class shoes (canvas or leather). Many wear classic tights and leotard, so it is a great place if you want to lean in to ballet wear (though not necessary). If you want a great ballet style bar workout class, called Ballet Barre Conditioning, Joan teaches a great one, ballet experience not needed, though some dancers take this class for strength. I believe socks are worn in this class. If you are visiting for the first time, arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out the introduction form/waiver, pay, and to potentially speak to a teacher to ask questions or introduce yourself. It is quite easy to drop in and sign yourself in by the studio door.

She takes the intermediate/advanced ballet, pointe and pilates classes whenever she can, and the training is great. The facility is clean, comfortable and provides everything needed for a great class. Even though she doesn't love zoom classes, my daughter has taken them from Gina to help keep her "on her toes" during the pandemic, and even on zoom, the classes are challenging. She seems to cater to serious dance students, retired and current professional dancers, and anyone looking for a great class. Overall, very positive experiences for us with this studio.

As an ex-pro dancer returning recreationally at 52 with an unpredictable schedule, I needed…read moreflexibility. I signed up in April 2025 after being told one enrolled class would allow unlimited drop-ins, with 30-day makeup windows. The teachers, class variety, and student culture are genuinely excellent. The management and policies, however, are another story. Policies grew increasingly restrictive over time -- drop-ins shifted to a text-based reservation system with advance scheduling requirements, an extra $7 fee for makeups, frequent confusion, and eventual pushback. I was repeatedly pressured to enroll in more classes despite being clear about my limitations, and denied access to advanced classes without enrolling in their ballet class, even though I was enrolled in ballet elsewhere. The studio hosts bi-annual showcase performances that some of the classes participate in and the 6-8 weeks prior include rehearsals. Before this month's showcase, I requested makeups for the two prior weeks knowing they'd be rehearsal-focused rather than full instruction. I scheduled 1 makeup and for the 2nd makeup was told other classes I requested were closed -- including a class with only 1-2 students -- and asked to stay after class for a conversation. The pattern made clear this was less about following policy and more about something that was never transparently communicated. Deciding this no longer aligned, I submitted 30 days' notice to unenroll per policy. The owner immediately refunded me and told me not to return -- then in the next message said I was valued and welcome to reenroll anytime. When I received the refund, I noticed my monthly rate had increased without disclosure or receipt. You have to catch it on your credit card statement. Best for students who commit to enrollments, skip makeups, and embrace the showcase model with costume costs -- no flexibility expected. One studio has an uneven, sometimes slippery floor that raises safety concerns.

I was hesitant about giving my money at that time because I was going out of town and wasn't sure when I would be able to take the intro class. Upon returning from my trip I got Covid. I received an email from Janell that my trial week had ended. Of course I was upset because I hadn't taken a class yet. She said: "SDC trials are non-transferrable and non-refundable. Your original trial was scheduled for 3/29. While we typically don't offer transfers, we made a one-time accommodation to shift your start date to 4/15, per your request. We reserved your spaces in classes throughout these two weeks, which closed the spots to other interested dancers. It sounds like our program may not be a great fit for what you're looking for in dance. We wish you all the best in your journey and if in the future you're interested in committing to 12 month program, please reach back out!" This place is a scam.
