My daughter just finished her first season at SCPA and she had a great time! She took multiple classes including ballet with Carolyn, jazz with Ashley, tap with Chantal, and hip hop with Lauren. She loved all of her teachers and made so much growth! I was particularly impressed with how well run the recitals are and how well my daughter did at becoming an independent performer on stage. Most importantly, she had a lot of fun and made several close friends. The ladies who run the studio are always friendly and responsive to questions. We are looking forward to another great year at SCPA! read more

South Coast Performing Arts is not just a dance studio; it's a second home for my daughters. With almost seven seasons under our belt, I can confidently say that this family-owned studio has become an integral part of our lives. My daughters not only discovered their passion for dance here but also found their best friends. The teachers(Ms Julie,Ms Caroyln, Ms Jessica,MJ and staff (Shawna and Tasha) at SCPA are the best ! South Coast Performing Arts has not just been a place for my daughters to learn dance; it has been a place for them to grow, make lasting friendships, and be part of a dance family that extends beyond the stage. We are grateful for the positive impact SCPA has had on our lives. read more

My daughter has called South Coast Performing Arts "home" for 10 years. In addition to dancing every day of the week, she also is an assistant teacher for many classes so knows the teachers very closely. SCPA has been integral in my daughter's growth and we cannot thank the teachers and owners more! No matter if it is Carolyn, Julie, Jessica, Devyn, MJ, Vicky, Tasha, Shawna, Lindsey, Chantal, Ashley, Stacey or Quentin (or anyone I forgot), the students are encouraged, taught, mentored, and inspired. I wouldn't trade the experiences our whole family has had throughout these formative years. Please come try classes, you won't be dissapointed. read more

Today was a free trial at the ballet class, and it was the worst experience we have had. The instructor, Carolyn, was very old and barely moved. She acted mean and yelled at my daughter during the class. The class seemed to be inexpensive, but it was not worth it. If you are looking for an active and kind instructor in a great and clean environment, this is not what you are looking for. If I could choose 0 stars, I would give them. read more

We absolutely love this studio! If you are looking for a studio that cares about your child as an individual and a dancer this is the studio for you. The training is fantastic, the teachers are amazing and the owners are just the sweetest. All three of my girls consider the studio a second home- they feel welcomed, they feel seen and challenged. SCPA is really a great studio! read more

This is a fantastic dance studio for aspiring dancers. My daughter danced here and they focused a lot on technique and growing the child without putting too much pressure on them. The staff here are all kind, and willing to work with the parents to ensure everyone has a great experience. I definitely recommend this studio. read more

My experience with this ballet instructor (Carolyn) was terrible. They lacked enthusiasm, provided poor communication, and gave no individual attention. The facilities were also subpar. I don't recommend them at all read more

My daughter started dancing at the age of 8 in a wonderful commercial dance studio in northern Irvine but soon fell in love with ballet. Very supportive of my growing ballerina, her studio referred her to miss Carolyn Lovett who is one of the most respected and renowned ballet teachers of the county. Miss Carolyn has been sharing her passion for ballet for years now. The respect she's earned in the profession, the love she has from generations of talented dancers is only equalled by her talent to still produce beautifully unique choreographies and teach at the highest level. Miss Carolyn became so much more than just a ballet teacher to my dancer, and she is so much more to so many dance professionals as well that, when Covid hit, she had no issue finding support in the community. Now leading the ballet program at South Coast Performing Arts in Tustin, Miss Carolyn is able to offer her students the highest level of ballet education in the most fun and supportive environment ever. SCPA is a small family-owned dance studio that offers the best in all dance styles and they do so in such a friendly way and with such a close knit community. They are remarkable. Every dancer is warmly welcome here, and supported no matter what level of dance they desire to reach. Some dancers come here just for a few recreational classes while others take all classes to reach their goal to become professional dancers. The versatility and the support given to every single dancer in this studio is unparalleled. And because they are so kind and give so much, many parents are now organized in a booster that contributes as much to this friendly environment: dancer's birthdays are celebrated, we have big and little buddies, we even have a yearbook! My daughter takes mostly contemporary and ballet classes at SCPA so I can talk about these. The smile she has when she goes to class, the smile (full heart and red cheeks) she has when she comes back, the results she has had in competitions these past years (Top 12 YAGP, acceptance in ballet summer intensives at San Francisco Ballet, Houston Ballet, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, multiple Crystal awards at Showstopper, etc.), and the fact that, on top of her personal training of around 10 hours/week combined with a rigorous high school education in Irvine (6 APs this year!...), she spends three hours per week assisting Miss Carolyn in her younger classes says it all! Passion, care, humility and excellence! This is what you will find if you enroll your child in ballet classes at SCPA with Miss Carolyn Lovett. read more

My daughter loves this dance studio! She and her best friend do it together and it's great!

This review is just for a birthday party. We don't take lessons here... My daughter had a "ballet party" here for her fifth birthday. Everything was awesome! The girls had so much fun, and it was quite a bargain at $250, imo. They provided decorations, wands for the guests and about an hour and a half of dance instruction in the style of your choice. We had 12 little girls at the party. The parents got to mingle in the lobby/food area. The girls did about 45 minutes of dance games and learned a routine. Only negative was that I thought the music was a little loud. The parents can watch the kids through a window. Then they had lunch, and back to the routine for a few minutes before performing for all the parents. It was so cute! Then we did cake and some free time for photos, playing in the lobby, etc. Love that it's nice and private, and I basically had my choice of time for the party. The staff was super helpful with anything I needed: setup, clean up, etc. I could have opened presents, but I chose to save those for later. I recommend having a party here if you have a little dancer! read more

Was looking for a dance studio for my 2.5 year old where she could start immediately, and not wait until she is 3 or the new session year. We had previously been taking her to a Kimdermusik class down the street at a different studio, but were dissatisfied with the management. Found this place online and emailed them, and they responded right away offering a trial class which was appreciated. Three classes in and my daughter is in love with it. The class is geared toward her age group (Creative Movement), and didn't matter that she just joined a group of girls who have been going for most of the year I'm assuming. She has fit right in and the teacher has really gotten her to participate well. After dealing with a studio who never responded to us, this place is a definite upgrade. After the trial class, I was having a hard time enrolling her online, so I called and spoke with Ashley. She was super friendly and helpful, and extremely easy to deal with. Got her registered and paid up in no time over the phone. read more

I am so happy I found SCPA for my two daughters! First, the owners are completely hands-on and took great care in placing each of my girls in the appropriate classes with emphasis on learning proper techniques while having fun. Secondly, they clearly make a strong effort to promote wholesomeness in young girls and teens. In our other studio we encountered inappropriate costuming and adult dance routines. I am delighted that my daughters will enjoy and learn in this caring atmosphere. The bonus? As their skill and presentation have improved they are learning how responsibility and genuine effort pay off. read more

Darcia Dexter's Wednesday MoJo and Feldenkrais classes are marvelous. For general fitness or improved movement, they can help anyone, and anyone can participate - you don't have to "know" anything or be bothered by body image or performance anxiety. She knows her stuff, provides individual attention, encourages and supports her students. I took her classes when on vacation in the area and will come back as soon as I can. read more
