My husband purchased a 5 lesson intro course for private lessons for me last Christmas. I kept putting it off and finally made our first appointment months later. Yes, it was a gift for both of us (whether he realized that or not) The studio is bright & inviting. On our initial visit, we decided to try Bachata & Salsa. We have zero dance experience and one of us had zero rhythm. Each class is 40 minutes and the scheduling of each class has been flexible with our schedules. Our first instructor left after our first few classes, but from then on we were partnered with Sierra. She is an amazing, patient teacher. Dance FX gets you moving right away with each other. The instructor will step in to be your partner to demonstrate. Each lesson builds upon the last with review and additional steps added each time. We made decent progress by lesson 5 so we decided to continue with another 10 lessons . We currently feel confident with many steps and turns with both Salsa & Bachata. After each lesson, we go over the plan for the next session and review what we've learned. We are still a bit slow, but we've made great strides for newbies. My posture has improved. Our rhythm is greatly improved. Now it's up to us to continue to practice. It's been a fun activity for my husband & me to try together. If you are thinking of trying something new, we recommend Sierra! She makes learning fun. We may go back sometime after the holidays. We'd also like to try country dancing at some point. The private lessons with Teloa have provided me the knowledge to step out with my wife in other dances besides slow ones. Most men think learning to dance is intimidating and like I have a fear of failing in the eyes of our wife, partner, or other spectators. **Introductory Private Class Review** I was so excited to get started with private lessons, yet unfortunately dismayed after our introductory class. $40 dollars is a bit steep for a teaser. After setting an appointment and paying up front, we came in to meet the private instructor. He sat down with us and awkwardly went through a couple ice-breaker questions. I'm all for that, normally, but we had JUST gotten through a four week group class, so it was somewhat tedious. Then, we jumped into the introduction of the four basic dance styles we would be learning. Part of it was reviewing fundamental leading and following steps, which I found reinforced what we already learned. Things were going well. I felt like we were all loosening up (the instructor included) until the sales pitch. About 45 minutes into the hour-long class we sat back down at a table to talk details. The deal was that we sign up for a package of 5 private classes (or 10 classes). When I asked if we could do installment payments, we were told "no." The price per class was around the same as this intro, but I felt like we hadn't learned all that much. We said we needed to think about it. I called a few days later to ask about installments and again, nonchalantly told "no." Notes: -The introductory private class is probably great for absolute beginners, but if you already have some skill or solid coordination, you may feel the value is lacking. - Even though I believe the private lessons would be great, don't go into the intro class without knowing you will be asked to pay for a prepaid package of sessions. I understand if that's commonplace, but as a busy couple, we don't prefer getting locked into an activity with a significant financial commitment up front. *Still shopping around* read more

After reading Pat's review I only think it is necessary to share the email I received from the owner today. I worked with Dance FX through the months of November and December in reference to their marketing and assisted with securing over $4000 worth of donations as well as getting all the food donated. I worked for 10 hours the day of the event and ran errands and picked up the donations in good faith. I gave her cost for two banners that I had designed and requested payment from that today. Mind you I under charged her for the event to work on doing additional business. Here is the email I received back. This sums up Nicole's attitude for sure. I would not recommend them to anyone. Hi Nicole, I had sent you the invoice to pay for the step and repeat banner directly to the vendor which was a cost of $150.00. I just received a statement from them saying that this has yet to be paid. Please remit payment either to me or the vendor ASAP. RESPONSE from Nicole: You're too funny! How about you take the $150 out of the money I paid you in December for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for my company to pay this. I NEVER approved $150 for the step and repeat banner as you know. While you're at it, you can send me back the $350 for the remainder of the money I paid you in December that you did not earn. How does this sound? Also, you may come and pick up your banner holders by this Saturday as they are taking up storage space in my studio. Otherwise, they will be tossed. Have a great day! read more

Overall I can see the vision this dance studio has and perhaps the way I wanted to learn and the things I wanted to learn could not be taught by the instructors I had. One was too technical the other, not technical enough. I felt as though I barely learned anything from either but I did learn some that is why I am giving this place a decent rating. Overall however, these lessons are not worth 100$ an hr to me, (I rounded up) I believe I could get better lessons for a much more reasonable price. Perhaps the dance style I prefer is a little too complex to teach the way they teach all the others, that could also be why other studios don't even bother teaching hip-hop lessons. Either way, not bad by any means but certainly far from what I had hoped. read more

My husband was looking into private dance lessons for us for our vow renewal back in March, when he found Dance FX Studios. We were invited to come in for an introductory lesson a few days after calling them. At the lesson, we were given a tour of the studio and then sat down with the owner (Nicole) and our to-be instructor (Bri) to discuss what we were looking for. We were asked some ice-breaker questions and we have plenty of detail about our wedding and what we wanted in our dance. After discussing all of the details, we were given a few package options, and we chose the one that fit our needs. Even though our wedding date was just over two weeks away, Nicole managed to schedule 10 private dance lessons, and she assured us this would be plenty of time to get the perfect wedding dance. Nicole also helped us pick out the perfect song, one which we'll cherish forever. We received email notifications that evening with our scheduled lessons, which made putting them in our personal calendars very easy. With less than 3 weeks before the wedding, and no dance experience on our end, we were so gracious that Dance FX made time for us. Our private lessons were with Bri, and she was an absolute gem. My husband and I had no dance experience prior to coming to Dance FX, and Bri was incredibly patient and taught everything so well. She was also very friendly, which made our time with her very enjoyable. We were so excited to share our first dance with our guests at our vow renewal, and our guests absolutely loved it. Dance FX says that "if you can walk, you can dance," and it's certainly true! We came in not knowing a single dance move, and we left with a whole choreographed dance and some basic dance moves to use anywhere we go.
