Great little sports shop, not like Bass or Cabellas, but it have everything you need and a good selection of firearms and ammo.

I will only go in here if I don't have to talk to any of the workers. I brought in a shotgun and was looking for a choke tube wrench when one of the rude employees looks at me and says "does your daddy know you have his gun?" Just because I am a female doesn't mean that I don't know what I'm talking about. Several times they just want to sell females on the "cute" pink guns instead of what we really want. So word to the wise, if you are a female, get ready to have the male ego shoved in your face. read more

This is the only place I will purchase anything they sell. I have never met a rude employee there or any that didnt have the time to help or just chat a little, including the owner. I cant think of one time going in that I wasn't greeted upon entering the door. A couple of years ago my wife was trying to find me a magazine for my walther for christmas, no one had them in stock. An employee at Dances asked what she was looking for, she told him, he went to the back and got one out of a new gun and sold it to her at a discount! That is customer service! So yesterday I search all over VA for a Garmin Drive Track. I finally came across one at Dance's Sporting Goods. They had one in stock. So I go ahead and purchase it. Well this afternoon we call to see if we can come get it instead of it being shipped & after speaking to TWO people before we got an answer of yes see ya in a few. So two hours later in the car, rain & with the kids we arrive at Dance's. It took us 30 minutes & 4 employees later to find my order or what even was going on. That employee acted like it was hurting him to help me. The guy stays in the back forever & returns one the phone with a receipt. He then comes over to me & says sorry but we don't have it. Apparently they gave it to someone else. No we are sorry. No how can we make this up. We got nothing, like they could have cared less. HELLO when were you going to call & tell me this? How long were you going to keep my money if I hadn't showed up? And how come you could not tell me this before I drove all the way down there, after I called & told you I was on the way. I immediately demanded to have the money back on my card by tomorrow. NEVER WILL I EVER SHOP WITH DANCE'S SPORTING GOODS EVER AGAIN. read more

I have never been so insulted in my life! This was the worst gun buying experience I have had, and I thought it couldn't get worse than Walmart's odd policy of having a manager escort you to the door. Dance's Sporting Goods falls far below any policy, this is simply poor service. I'll start at the beginning. I had been shopping for a Ruger SR9c and planned to buy a new one from Green Top or Bass Pro Shop. That is about a 90 minute commute from my home, so I figured I'd check Dance since they are less than an hour away. I spotted a used SR9c for $399 and figured I'd pick it up a few days later on my return trip. That's a fair price being that GreenTop had them priced $470 new and BassPro for $499. (Strike 1) I call ahead and ask if they still had the used SR9c in stock. The salesman checks, comes back in less than a minute and says "no, it has been sold." I'm on my way so I figure I'll see what else is available before moving on to Bob Moates' or DeGoff's on the way up to GreenTop. I get to the store and bam! The gun is sitting right in the display shelf clear as day! (Strike 2) I wait over 5, near 10 minutes before anyone comes to address me. There were only 3 customers in the gun department, with 6 employees behind the counter! So one dude comes over and let's me check out the firearm. I look it over and let him know I am going to buy it now. The whole time he's addressing me and talking to another customer who is obviously an old friend because they are talking about stuff completely outside of gun sales. They're talking about yard work, while I'm filling out my paperwork. The rude salesman is more into his chat than actually selling and attending to me the paying customer. (Strike 3) They then start walking towards the register, before my background check clears with the VA State Police! I'm like don't I need to wait until after the confirmation. The staff insists that I have to pay upfront. Now, I am a law abiding citizen and thank God I have a crystal clean track record, and I've purchased several guns in the past. (Strike 4) Then on top of all these blunders, when my background check clears in less than 10 minutes, a female manager hands me the pistol! (Strike 5!) She literally hands me the pistol with a smirk on her face as if because I am a Black, 31 year old, man, I'm a thug gang banger! She handed it to me like she thought I would leave the store with no holster brandishing a weapon in broad day light. And without the box, which includes the extra magazine, speed loader, safety manual, extra baseplate, is she insane?! UNBELIEVABLE! I said excuse me, I want my Ruger Box! They didn't even put it in a bag. (Strike 6) I had to pick up a bag from the lady at the cash register by the door! My God! Jesus knows they tried my faith. Safe to say I will NOT be back. read more

Dance's is like a Pawn shop / Gun / Diner / sporting good store. If they had animals you could buy a gun, kill your prey and cook it without leaving the place. None-the-less, if you are in a bind, you may find what you need there... especially ammo. In regards to customer care or pricing; they really need help. I was buying an AR15 and had been to Southern Police Supply in Midlothian. The price at Dance;s was $200 more. I told the manager that I had seen the rifle at Southern for less and asked what he could do as I lived close by and he had a number of those AR's in stock. He said, "There is a demand on these right now so I don;t see why I need to deal." OK... Look that may have been true (in his mind) but do you tell the customer that. I kindly went to Southern and bought 2! And an XDs .45. So my suggestion is Go to Dance's... play with the product. Touch it, feel it, and then go get it where you can get a good deal and customer support. read more

Charged me $65 for an FFL transfer. My hometown in western Virginia only charges $5 for military service member. Total ripoff here at Dance's. Don't use them. read more

I have purchased numerous items from Dance's including a crossbow, fishing equipment, hunting clothing, and a Walther for my Daughter. I consistently find friendly and knowledgeable staff willing to answer my questions and make "real world" recommendations. Good folks. read more

Dances is the only store around Colonial Heights with a somewhat decent selection of firearms, ammo, and accessories. However, expect to pay full retail price, even on discontinued items. Staff is not overly helpful, and though I have bought thousands of dollars of firearms and ammo there, I never felt particularly welcome. Now that I live closer to the Richmond metropolitan area, I doubt I will be doing much business with them. One the positive side, they do hire a few decent looking women. ;) read more

Been shopping at Dances since September 1983, old and new locations. Always have been treated with the utmost courtesy and respect. Over the years I have bought guns for myself, my sons and granddaughters there and always felt I had been treated fairly. Never felt I had been over charged by anyone. I do concede that not all of their deals are the best and not all the sales people are super knowledgeable, but they are honest and they are there to help not hinder and will sell you what you want to buy not what they need to sell. I personally like to just visit sometimes and look around to see whats new and available, they are usually up to date on all items. I highly recommend them and will continue to recommend them and refer friends to them as I feel they will always be treated fairly and honestly. read more

All I can figure is that the Dance's I have been in and bought from several times is different from the one mentioned by so many here. I know several of the guys by name, and they are friendly and will make a deal when they can. There are always those in every gun shop who don't go out of their way to help you, and others who know less about what you are shopping for than you know. As far as price goes, I have found that Dance's new gun prices, and especially their used ones, are generally better than most everybody else. The only other gun shop I have found that belongs in the same category as Dance's is Town Police Supply at the intersection of Hull Street Road and Courthouse Road. read more

Like the prices on their guns but their customer service sucks. Whatever you do, do NOT use them as your preferred FFL. Your item may be delivered but it will not be processed in a timely manner because the FFL fee you are paying them isn't what they'd have earned if the item had been in their inventory. Very displeased and unless desperate, will not go back. read more
