It makes shopping for gear easy. The location is fairly easily accessible just off veterans and the parking lot always has space, even during their busy times. Disappointing Customer Service Experience…read more I went to the store to buy tights and jazz shoes for my daughter. When I walked in, I told the sales associate I was there to purchase both. She showed me the available shoe options. I mentioned I was looking for flesh-toned shoes and wasn't sure the colors they had would work. I then picked out a pair of tights and, after that, went back to the shoes and asked to try some on my daughter. The associate then asked if I was "just trying on or purchasing." Stunned, I replied, "trying on to see if I want to purchase." She then said there would be a $15 try-on fee for the jazz shoes, which would go toward the purchase if I decided to buy. I asked for clarification: "So, if I try the shoes on and don't like them, I have to pay $15?" She said she might not be explaining it correctly and called over the manager or owner. Instead of clarifying the policy like the associate asked her to, the owner repeatedly said she was "confused" about whether I was buying or trying on, referring back to my earlier comment about wanting a flesh tone. I explained that I wanted to try them on my daughter to decide if the available color worked, but she continued to say she was confused, without ever attempting to explain the try-on policy or addressing my question. At that point, I said, "Never mind, we're in the wrong place," and left with my children. I went there to make a purchase, as i have many times over the years, but the tone and attitude made me feel unwelcome and completely uncomfortable. We ended up purchasing the shoes and tights online for less money, but I went to this store specifically hoping to support a small business. Unfortunately, this experience made that impossible and I won't be returning. Lastly, if a try-on fee is the store's policy, it should be communicated clearly and professionally, especially when a customer has already expressed intent to buy.

Living in the Lakeview area, I'm not sure how my wife stumbled onto Haase's Shoe Store, but I'm glad she did, as this is definitely our new go-to spot for kid's shoes. Located on Oak street just off of S. Carrollton, the exterior façade looks like it was taken right out of the 1960's; and I like that a lot. Founded in 1921 as Haase's Shoe Store and Young Folks Shop, they have 100 years of experience, and it shows. As I walked towards the store, I was immediately reminded of a Norman Rockwell painting, but I digress. Upon walking in, I was very courteously greeted by Mr. Kevin Caliva who, after asking what he could help us with, measured my sons feet and showed us what he had in stock. He was the consummate professional (no AL Bundy here) and treated us like we were the only people in the store, which we definitely were not. They had an incredible selection of kids' shoes. Not only did they have a large selection of tennis shoes, but they also carried boots, first walkers, casual shoes, infant crib shoes, loafers, moccasins, Oxfords, rain boots, slipper, sandals, lots of Velcro shoes up to size 5 and a huge assortment of kids school shoes. In fact, their section of solid black sneakers for school use was the most diverse I've ever seen in ANY shoe store. Haase's also sells clothing, some school uniforms, accessories and does monogramming. They even sell gift cards, which I think would be a big hit, as this store is phenomenal. We left the store with a brand new pair of Asics for my son. Kevin took my contact information, as we wanted another pair of shoes that he didn't currently have in stock. We had different sales people with the exact well-trained sales approaches. "I refuse to sell you a pair of shoes in the size you are requesting." I heard other customers being told that in the store while waiting. I said my shoe felt too large and I could fit my finger behind the heel, I was told that's normal and we have $50 inserts to make the already expensive shoe fit better. My husband chalked it up that he made a bad decision in buying shoes a little too big that cause him to stumble when walking an inside track. I went back to Fleet Feet 1 day past the 30 day/month policy to exchange my shoes because after walking in them 4 times on an inside track, my foot started flopping around in it. I've always worn a 5 - 5.5 and even with realizing my narrow feet got larger with age, I was placed in a size 7. The salesperson could not help me out with an exchange mainly because of the return policy time that was shortened only a month prior to my purchase, and besides they didn't have any size 6 Brooks for the exchange. I went to two other "reputable" shoe stores who measured my feet traditionally. I was told by both stores that I should not be wearing a shoe larger than a 6. So buyer beware. We truly believe that our local Fleet Feet store sells whatever is in stock and we both will know better from now on. It may be great for runners, but not for basic walking.
