My daughter has attended this studio for about 6 months now and she still loves it as much as she did on the first day. Her teacher, Ms. Carrie, is an absolute saint for dealing with 2 year olds that have a hard time focusing and following directions! The 30 minutes per week of class I feel is perfect for the age group. I would never recommend this place. The owner Shannon is really an awful person. She's rude. She is NOT sympathetic of kids that are not perfectly behaved and she's just downright a mean person. She threatened to remove my son after one minor incident. Never once has she told me there was a problem in the past and I woke up to an email of all these alleged complaints. My daughter was taking class 2 years at this studio. We moved and at the new dance studio, she had her dance skill evaluation. We were told that she has to start with the beginner class because her dance skill is not matching with her years of experience. They told us she learned turns wrong way, so she had to not just start from the very beginner class, but also correct the turns which she was instructed in the wrong way at this studio. Now that she is 11 and many of her peers are in company, or competitive team, and it's so regretful that we started dance at this school because she is behind. read more

I can't believe this place is still in business! I attended this dance studio when I was a tiny girl in the 80s and the studio was in Newhall across from the train tracks. I performed as a sugar plum fairy in the Nutcracker when I was a toddler. Now I'm a mom looking at places for my daughter but I would never dare send her here. This place legitimately scarred me for my entire life. I feel like they robbed me of the joy to dance and I still struggle with self consciousness while dancing as a result of the studio's unkindness. In a ballet class when I was around 4 the teacher scolded me and said that I could 't dance and I would never be able to dance. What cruel adult says that to a preschool age CHILD?! Modern reviewers are right to say that this place doesn't actually care about your kids. I hope it's not the same owner because the original person was beyond uncaring. As a mom now, reflecting on my experience in the 80s, I still can't believe how this place treated me when I was so impressionable. What is so deeply broken in an adult who deliberately chooses to be unkind to a young child who simply loves to jump around and is trying to learn to dance? Are you on the fence about this studio? Think about your daughter's wellbeing. Go find another place, one that is filled with love, kindness and instills a lifelong love of dance and movement. Don't support a place that is reckless with the goodness in children. It's not worth a lifetime of heartache. read more

The new ownership views your child as "1 out of 400." So it's fitting to rate this studio 1 out of 5. I wish there was a zero. This studio is pretending to run a comprehensive recreational dance program, but really only cares about the few they hand select. There is no community feeling for kids who don't go company. In fact, they are actively excluded even from basic community events, such as a being excluded from a 5-year participation ceremony. Performance opportunities are extremely limited. The teachers have no interest in your child as a developing human, and seem to want dance robots. Body shaming is rampant, as is bullying. The number of times my daughter (or her friends) has been bullied or was afraid to go to class because of rude comments is absolutely unacceptable. Nothing is done to encourage a supportive, growth oriented environment. Self-esteem and confidence is an afterthought. The teachers lack basic empathy, and do not inspire joy or artistic expression. The total inability to communicate or implement 21st century communication astounds. Long-winded emails with very little clear information is the norm. Regularly disorganized about dates and times of performances despite having an entire year to plan. And you have to travel to Glendale for some reason to go to the shows. Either they don't have good relationships with in-town theater options or are too cheap to pay for the rental space. Half the time you can't make plans because they keep you guessing about when events will be held. It also becomes extremely boring to watch the one annual performance they do have because there is one choreography formula and nothing new or creative will ever happen. I wish I knew what we would experience with this studio. The owner literally gives her daughter and her daughter's friends lead roles, and then preaches about being fair. Eye roll. Give me a break! You will never encounter ruder customer service than what you encounter here, particularly from the younger dance teachers who seem disgruntled to be working at the desk. We paid all the way through COVID to keep this business afloat and there is absolutely zero gratitude. You are literally "1 out of 400" and will never be anything more. Don't fall down this rabbit hole with your kiddo. This place is a nightmare wonderland. A literal 1984 dystopia. There are so many options, take your time to find a real studio that cares about all kids. After 5 years at this studio, all the love for dance that my daughter had has now almost disappeared. Every morning she wakes up and says "is it Saturday yet" she attends Ms. Samis class teacher is amazing very attentive to her students and cares for their growth and achievements. My daughter has been dancing at Dance Studio 84 for the past 5 years and it has been nothing short of amazing! The teachers at this studio truly care about their students and want them to succeed. They offer tap, ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and more! There are opportunities to join their competition teams or you can choose to stay in recreational classes. Competition team spots have to be earned, which I think is great and teaches the kids work ethic. The recreational classes have a great balance of structure and fun and the studio as a whole has a sense of family and community. Throughout the pandemic, I have been very impressed with the way things were handled. When businesses and schools shut down, Dance Studio 84 kept students dancing by offering virtual online classes and then in person classes outdoors. Classes were updated and modified to allow for virtual and in person classes simultaneously, to ensure the health and safety of all students and teachers. They have continued to adapt, always putting health and safety first, but also ensuring that the students could still dance and the teachers could still teach. read more

Their recital is a joke. You'll have to spend $$$ for your child's 2 min dancing. (Video, photo, costume, tickets, flower etc) It's a whole day event, and you'll have to watch 40 other team's performances including tots. I enjoyed 1 or 2 tots dancing, but after 4 or 5 tots ballet, I felt I had enough but there are more groups still kept on going. Long event makes every kids grumpy and the hall gets a mess and parents have no manner are walking around during the performance some even change diapers at the seat. Chaos. read more

DS84 is definitely the best studio out there! I started at the studio when I was 3 y/o and currently take some of their adult classes! They are not only fun, but really incorporate great technique! My classes are always one of the highlights of my week! My daughter also started when she turned 3 and LOVES her combo class! After starting out at the "other" ballet studio in Santa Clarita (the one where they yell at your 4 yo for not paying attention) we were reluctant to try here. While we didn't have visions of grandeur that we had the Joffrey Ballet School's next star student but still wanted both our kids to learn the basics and have fun. We've been here just over 2 years and it's the best decision we made! From ballet to tap to hip hop, they have it all. We've been part of two "showcases" a year which are actually enjoyable to attend and we don't get killed on the ticket prices either. My daughter started at Dance Studio 84 about 1.5 years ago in the four year old class. She is now in one combo class with Miss Carrie and one combo class with Miss Sami. She LOVES it! She enjoys going and loves to come home and dance for her family to show us what she's learned. The Studio is wonderful at communicating with parents and is well organized. They have two recitals a year so we've been to three so far and I just love them. My daughter isn't part of the dance team but I took her to see the Nutcracker that Dance Studio 84 put on and it was so wonderful! My daughter was so excited! I am so thankful to Dance Studio 84 and especially to Ms. Carla. My daughter was extremely shy prior to starting her first class back in August. I have seen her come out of her shell and I attribute it to Ms.Carla's care and hard work. My daughter had her very first recital a couple of weeks ago and was so comfortable and excited. They pay attention to every detail and run a very organized studio with monthly newsletters to keep parents up to date. My girls have also learned about humility and are represented with grace, respect, and integrity. I have seen their self-confidence and self-esteem flourish by having the opportunity to grow and learn at their own pace. Their dances and costumes are age appropriate, classy, and tasteful. The Nutcracker and June Recital is a family tradition in our house and the teachers continue to keep it new with creative choreography, stunning tutus for leads, and quality costumes for every dancer! With the help and encouragement of the staff, they have grown from once a week recreational students, to high level competitive dancers. The studio offers numerous styles of dance. The staff is kind and patient answering all questions in detail never making you feel rushed. The instructors are top notch! Many instructors are currently working in the industry and have a broad knowledge of what is fresh and current. They train the kids with kind caring hearts, while teaching them proper technique and appropriate dance etiquette. The owners, Miss Carrie and Miss Shannon, foster a family atmosphere at the studio. This dance studio is a wonderful and affordable place to enroll your child. Their staff is very friendly and helpful and the dance teachers are all very down to earth. I was taking my daughter to another dance studio out here in Valencia but it was more expensive, the dance costumes costs an arm and a leg and the performance sites were very crowded and not organized very well which took the enjoyment away. With Studio 84, their dance recital costumes are very affordable. The Recitals are held in Glendale and they do not try to crowd all of the dance class performances in one day. The split them up in different time schedules so that way parking and seating is not an issue. Also, seating in the auditorium is great! The dance room are also huge! I highly recommend this studio if you are looking to get your child into dance class! read more

Although I will say that the dance instruction and recital was great, I was sorely disappointed with the lack of professionalism at the front desk and on the phone. Also being a first-timer, I was given NO guidance and explanation for procedures and protocol. I don't like to be pointed to newsletters and websites. I think that the teacher should be informed of the exact date and time for pictures and rehearsal to communicate to the class, I believe that someone should be directing parents/student on where to go instead of trying to figure it out for yourself or rely on other parents' help, I feel that an employee or helper should be in front of the recital location directing parents (instead of again relying on other parents for help) and most importantly make it CLEAR when signing up, before the last class and AT THE REHEARSAL that there are two more classes AFTER THE RECITAL! Why would I think that there should be more instruction after the completed performance? From what I have heard from other studios, this is normal, however for a newcomer this is NOT something we would automatically be aware of. You don't graduate from high school and then go back to school for a few classes. Apparently it was in the newsletter which is incredibly lengthy and most of the information did not pertain to our class and apparently there was an announcement after the recital?? Also I contacted the studio to speak to someone about this and was treated very disrespectfully and made to feel like it was my fault that I wasn't aware of this information. The person took my information to pass on to the director, who surprisingly never returned my call or e-mail. They make alot of money and have a spotless reputation so why should she? My advice: Ask alot of questions if you are a new parent/student. read more

The dances that are produced are either for recitals or for the nutcracker. Anything else is for nothing. Don't expect a lot of performances. I wish the studio would have more performing and artistic characteristics. Although, the teachers are very cool and the rooms are great. read more

I am upset to see that my original review was filtered! I read the filter standards for Yelp and can now see that their rules mean nothing. Yelp claims that bad reviews will not be filtered - I guess that's not true. The following statements are true and not clouded by bias or sour grapes. My concerns are only for my granddaughter and the fact that the owner of the studio is not concerned with negative comments. Our first year with teacher Shannon was a very good experience, the second year we could not schedule our time with her. We went with another teacher named Miss Connie. I was not as happy because there was a lot more children in the class and there seemed to be crying some times. As it came closer to recital time Miss Connie told the children who were three or four years old that if they did not do their best that no one would clap for them. When I got my grand daughter in car she burst into tears and was so upset it took me several minutes to calm her down and find out what was wrong. After she told me what Miss Connie had said I went back to the studio to get to the bottom of why a teacher would say such a hurtful thing to a bunch of three and four year olds. I was told she had a class and would call me later. She did about 8:00p.m. when I questioned her about why she would say such a thing she said she was glad that someone was listening to her. She then told me that parents pay a lot of money for lessons for their kids and expected results!!! I was in shock at that answer. I sent my grand daughter there to learn the love of dance, gracefulness and the fun of learning new things. Oh yeah and to have fun too. After that my grand daughter did not want to be in Miss Connie's class and would not even consider putting on the costume for the recital She was worried no one would clap. She said she wanted to learn tap and ballet at another place. I certainly did not blame her. I emailed the owner of the studio and explained every thing to her, asking for, although not expecting, the return of the cost of the tickets we had purchased for our family and the cost of the costume purchased for the performance. The biggest disappointment was that she did not even bother to answer. How unprofessional. We will not be back. read more

I am so happy with our experience at DS84. When we moved to the area, my daughter decided she would like to try dance. We tried another studio and it just wasn't the right fit. We wanted a studio that focused on technique and less on competition. I was impressed with the studio for many reasons beyond the technique and training. I appreciate the more modest costume choices, the encouraging staff, the community involvement, and the amazing front office staff. Every time I have a question, Daphne is always ready to help. When we have had scheduling conflicts we always get a call back and every effort is made to make things work. The shows are wonderful! My son loved watching his sister perform so much that he asked to take classes just to be in the Nutcracker. The patience and love Connie shows him is fantastic and his confidence is soaring because of it. DS84 is absolutely the right place for our family. read more
