I was looking for somewhere to take a few dance classes to prep for my wedding. I didn't even realize this studio existed in this plaza until I did my Yelp search. Initially I called and spoke with Jean. I told him I wanted to learn a father-daughter dance with my dad. He was very friendly over the phone and set me up to come in for a first time lesson at a discounted rate. They are not open on weekends, but do stay open fairly late on weeknights and had plenty of openings for the private dance lesson. It it right next to Active and FedEx and it's actually a fairly large sized studio. There is one main dance floor which can sometimes be shared between private classes or used for bigger group classes. There are lockers for storing belongings and a drinking fountain. For our private lessons, our first two visits we worked with George, who was very patient and helpful. Our last visit was with Jean, who put some finishing details on our dance. At the very first visit, we tried different styles of dance including the waltz, tango, and quickstep. We decided to go with a waltz, something simple and classic. Jean was also able to help us choose the perfect song to dance to. At the end of each private lesson, the instructor does a recap of what was done during the lesson. The cool thing about signing up for the private lessons was that we also had access to the group classes and practice parties throughout the month. In the group classes, the instructor would teach a variety of dances including Fox Trot, Cha cha, Rumba, Swing (..and the list goes on). They will have you switch partners to practice the steps, so it does take you out of your comfort zone a bit. Jean really encouraged us to go to the practice parties to be able to practice our dance in front of an audience (although, we never made it to one, shame on us). But the group atmosphere here is very fun and social. Everyone here is very high energy, supportive, and positive. They understand that everyone is at different dance levels and work with you. Most importantly, the instructors have a love and passion for dance that is contagious. I came here specifically to learn a dance for my wedding, but if I had more interest in learning other dance styles, I would come back. When we enter the beautiful studio with its very spacious dance floor, we are warmly greeted by the owners Wendy and Jean, who are also the main instructors. They are championship dancers and definitely use their skills to teach all levels and types of dance to their students. When we got there we were surprised to find out it was partner line dancing not individual line dancing. So not only were we mislead by what we signed up for, we were haggled for 30 min by the owner, Wendy to sign up for $600 lessons that we were not interested in. I love this place and am usually here 4 nights a week - Tuesday through Friday nights. I used to drive by during tax season and see everyone having so much fun in the window and finally had time to enroll in July. In just 4 short months I advanced from Foundation to Bronze I to Bronze II and have competed at 2 showcases and performed a solo, and have a new showcase coming up with over 15 entries. I have learned so much about technique and have become more comfortable performing. My favorite parts about this studio are the owners, teachers, and fellow students. First of all Jon and his staff are highly motivated to teach and also energetic, which made the environment fun. I can't say enough good things about our experience with Arthur Murray Valencia. To say I was hesitant about dance lessons is an understatement (dancing had always caused me a lot of anxiety...it didn't come naturally, so I would do what I could to avoid it), but lessons were something my wife had always wanted to do so I made the leap to sign us up for an introductory session. Needless to say, I had no reason to be hesitant. At Arthur Murray Valencia, you're surrounded by people who want you to become a better dancer. All of instructors have been amazing...fun, personable, and it-tune with what our own individual learning styles are. The other students are incredibly friendly and supportive. Most importantly, though, we've always felt welcome and that we belong, and have never once felt like we were being judged. So what began five months ago as an activity I was "doing for her" has become a fantastic hobby that we get to share, and the classes we attend (private or group) are always a highlight of our week. Melodie and I started going to the Arthur Murray Dance Studio to learn and prepare for our 'first wedding dance'. Neither of us had any ballroom dancing experience. We met with the owners, Wendy and Jean, and they welcomed us with open arms. They are so friendly and professional. Both of them are amazing dancers with lots of positive energy. We love learning from Wendy and Jean too! We met our personal instructor, Stephen, and we spent about six weeks together, with 5 private lessons (45 minutes each), to prepare for our wedding dance. The wedding dance package also allowed us to attend the group classes and practice parties each week to help improve our dancing. The group classes and practice parties are a lot of fun. We learned a variety of dancing styles and continued to improve. During the group classes, you continually rotate partners as you learn the specific dance, which allows you to dance with more experienced dancers to better improve your skills. Everyone, including the other students, are great people to dance with. Everyone has a great time. Stephen is an amazing instructor. He is friendly, and a lot of fun to dance with. We are both learning a lot from him. We danced to the acoustic version of Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time', which featured Sarah McLachlan in a duet. Stephen loved our song choice and put together a beautiful choreographed dance. Melodie and I have a great time learning from Stephen. We are becoming great friends with all of them. It is such a great social environment for everyone. We continued to practice on a regular basis with the private lessons, group classes, and the practice parties. We did our dance in front of the group during a practice party and everyone loved it. On the night of our wedding, Melodie and I hit the dance floor and we impressed all of our guests with our first wedding dance. All of our family and friends loved it, and cheered. We recorded our wedding dance on video and showed Wendy, Jean, and Stephen. All three of them were so proud of our dance, and how much we accomplished in a short period of time. Melodie and I loved the dancing so much, we decided to sign up for six more months of lessons. We are enjoying our private lessons, group classes, and practice parties. We even went to the Medal Ball at the Universal Sheraton Hotel and had a fantastic time dancing with other nearby Arthur Murray Studio participants. We graduated from Foundation to Bronze 1. We also discovered that dancing a few times each week is excellent exercise for both of us. When we dance, we forget about everything outside, and enjoy doing something together. When we do a private lesson, group class, and practice party, we are dancing for about 3 hours total. We have so much fun, we do not even realize it. We are both getting so much exercise, that it is helping us lose weight, lower our blood sugar levels (we are both in our mid-40s), and reduce stress. We are also eating healthier by lowering carbs and sugar. The dancing is much more fun than going to a gym. We always look forward to our nights when we are dancing. We love seeing Wendy, Jean, and Stephen, and have so much fun when we are on the dance floor.
