The Ballroom of Reno - Free class offered at the studio!

The instructors, Jeff and Cindy are so great! They are welcoming, encouraging, and professional. There are many regulars that attend the basics class as a warm up and then take the level 2 class an hour later. I have gone to 3 classes and plan on taking more in the future. I have also attended a members social that had food, drinks, music, and two hours of fun. Everyone that I have met at the classes are friendly and patient when I ask questions or get the moves wrong. I feel that I can only get better with practice and experience. There are other classes offered at the ballroom like Salsa,Tango, Country Two-Step,Country Swing and more! Check out their website for dates, times, and class levels.

You bet I am! This is Northern Nevada's only nonprofit dance studio and they are doing everything they can to get everyone dancing. The research on partnership dancing and aging has been phenomenal! That alone should encourage everyone to dance! The Ballroom offers a free Dance With Me program for those who have cognitive and/or mobility issues such as Parkinson's or dementia. There is an afterschool program through Reno Housing Authority in underserved areas. There is also a program for young children! Last night was the annual fundraiser Gala for the studio and what fun we all had. What wonderful performances by all. And yes, I have the parent's permission to post the pictures of the youngest student to perform at the studio!

It helps that we have the same class time as her friend so she has a familiar face. Ms Elysia has been her teacher and we love how patient she is with the kids and teaching them different positions. You are able to watch the class and it is open enough to bring siblings as they provide toys to play with in the lobby while class is in. Everything in there is soft pink and makes you feel like a princess! Sometimes they do unlimited months, which is nice. I would highly recommend it for those who are on the younger age interested in trying ballet!

The instructor is sweet and right on it when it's class time. On her first day (trial day, also free) I had hoped she was introduced to everyone to make her feel welcome and had like a one-on-one so the instructor and my daughter can have an idea of each other and where's my daughter at if that makes sense, because it reminded me of college where you take a last minute class and expected to catch up whether you're feeling a tidy bit lost you know. This kind of age I do believe they need more help with "settling" in. I was glad my husband came with me on her first day basically. After that she's gone to two classes and feeling more confident within herself. It is a bit fast paced, I mean, we did start the middle of the month, but like I said, a one-on-one with them will be helpful on the littles who needs more guidance. Overall I do enjoy this place so far and look forward to what my daughter will continue to learn and experience her first recital!

A wonderful magic show inside the Grand Sierra Hotel & Casino…read more I was looking for something to do without leaving the hotel for a major conference. I saw that they were advertising this show...and I like a good magic show. It did not disappoint. The sleight of hand and on-stage demonstrations were incredible. I was still banging my head of how they did it or maybe it was the cocktail at the bar that was playing tricks on my mind. As a guest of the hotel, I had a 20% coupon and promptly used it at the ticket office, though I think I should have picked my seat better. Nonetheless, I was in the second row and I was able to get a good look of the magic up close. If you arrive early, you can hang out for Happy Hour, they had some unique drinks including the local standby beers and cocktails...and mocktails for those attending the all-ages show. I recommend seeing this show on a Friday or Saturday night if you want a bit more rambunctious, racy show.

After happy hour ended a bud light and high noon was $18. I can't believe they turned the old movie theater into a magic show theater. I sat there thinking about all the movies I saw at the Hotel and the first time I had a drink in a movie theater so long ago, 1989. It was fun in the bar prior to the doors opening they have a magical experience for adults and kids to set the mood for the evening. Tracy the bartender was awesome! She also works at Blitz during the day. She has the kindest soul and such a people person! It was like I had known her for years. They have a box office where you can purchase tickets. Very hard to hear the gal! They definitely need a microphone to speak to each other. If you think you're going to save a few extra dollars on those service fees - you may have to think twice, just purchase on line. It's much easier. Also, they have a snack bar with fresh popped popcorn $9 -$13 and huge pretzels $14. Chase Hasty and his wife have traveled around the world to over 25 countries sharing their magical talent and ballet dancing skills. My favorite part of the show was when Chase brought out a locked box and Hoisted the box with a rope up to the ceiling and told this guy to watch the box. Later in the show they opened the box, it was a pretty impressive trick!!! One not to be forgotten!! It's a small production but well thought out with couple extra dancers and costumes changes. I love that Chase, picks people out of the audience to help with the show. Maddox was a return kid that had been practicing his magic and Chase let him perform in front of the audience and what is that called "That's Magic!!!" It's nice the performers will met you afterwards in the hallway to have pictures and ask questions. It's a great family night or you can come to the later show at 9pm for a little more risky nocturnal show. I'll have to save that one for another time!
