Lin is also a lactation consultant, and that helped us get ready for breastfeeding and just being more comfortable with the whole child birthing process. If you are a first-time parent, or just want to be better prepared for your second or third child, we highly recommend her.

Lin came highly recommended by our pediatrician, and I reached out to her as a first time mom with…read morea 3 day old baby who wasn't getting enough supply from breastfeeding. I had no idea how to properly use my pump or manually express enough to ensure my baby was being nourished. I called Lin in overwhelmed, sleep-deprived tears. She helped me over the phone on a holiday, hearing the panic and worry in my voice. Her advice immediately improved our situation, and she visited the following afternoon to provide a lactation consultation and weighted feed. While with us, she also identified a potential tongue and lip tie, and referred us to a provider to have that formally diagnosed and possibly corrected. We created a care plan including tips for latching, feeding schedules, massage techniques, positioning, and proper pump usage. Her help was absolutely invaluable and both my husband and I felt so much more confident afterward. She is an absolute wealth of knowledge, her bedside manner is one of gentle kindness, and you can feel her passion for what she does. We are incredibly grateful for her expertise, kindness, and willingness to make us an immediate priority, and would recommend her to anyone who is new to or struggles with breastfeeding.

[This review is for their classes - not the birthing center/midwife services]…read more My husband and I paid for and participated in the preparing for birth class run by Jillian Hollingsworth. Under no circumstances would I recommend this class or this instructor. The description on their website claims the class is designed for "all birthing people" yet that could not have been further from the truth. I was the only mom in the class who was planning to birth in a hospital. From the moment I said this out loud, I felt ostracized. Jillian exclusively referred to me as "Hospital Mama" instead of by name. I was made to feel like I was making the wrong choice. Jillian then made sure that no one wanted an epidural or pain meds for their birth. I had planned on (and did get when it was time) an epidural but I knew better than to say so. However, she did single me out and said something along the lines of "You're not getting an epidural, are you?" We lied and said we weren't planning on it solely to avoid judgement. The class didn't provide any real helpful birth coping mechanisms or guidance on positions or breathing techniques like I was hoping. It was mostly a detailed walk through the stages of labor which was good info but not worth $250. To top it all off, Jillian allowed the class to venture into anti-vax convos and claims of vitamin K dangers that have been proven false. Several moms were allowed to share false information about black box labels and were not corrected by Jillian. Evidence-based information can be found here for other new moms and for CBP to review: https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-for-the-vitamin-k-shot-in-newborns/ We left feeling so uncomfortable and wanting to never step foot back in the birthing center.

Charleston Birth Place requires you to pay for all of their services prior to your baby being born…read morethrough Larsen Billing and they tell you that you will be reimbursed once insurance kicks in after the baby is born. Larsen Billing is incompetent and has not reimbursed us and our baby is now three months old. Stay away from Charleston Birth Place simply for the fact that their billing system does not work.
