OMG. This was one of the best spa experiences. I think I've ever had. Definitely in the top three. We booked some massages to kill some time before a late night flight. We had a scrub first and then the massage. The whole spa area in the back is such a pleasant surprise. You wouldn't even know it was there. Very relaxing, calming, welcoming. Great experience from start to finish! All associates we interacted with were friendly and welcoming from taking our reservations over the phone to check-in, during our facial/massage and checkout. I opted for an Essential Facial and my friend opted for a much-needed massage. As expected, the changing area has lockers and any bathroom essentials you may need before or after your appointment. Our wait times were minimal and we enjoyed the tea options which were available before and/or after our appointments. I'm not a spa aficionado by any means but the combination of reasonable pricing & positive reviews at Earthling Day spa really won us over. EDS is pretty affordable by comparison to other spas in the immediate area. Let's just say there was a bit of sticker shock when scoping out other spa service menus! That said, my only wish is that I lived closer to Charleston so I could try out their other services. Per their website, they've been around for 30+ years so I'm sure I'll be back to treat myself to another self-care visit on a future trip. If you happen to arrive early (or want to linger a bit after your appointment), the spa includes a shop featuring the expected spa products but also features merchandise from local merchants like jewelry, accessories, clothing, baby items, etc. Convenient location just around the corner of City Market. During our trip to Charleston, we stayed at the John Rutledge house inn which was amazing. When we called the concierge to ask about spas, they said that the spa that they work with is the earthling day spa. We had the option of having an in-room massage or going to the spa, and because there were four of us we decided to make an afternoon of it and all go together. We made our reservations over the phone for two sets of couples massages ($220/couple) and we added facials to ours ($200/couple). When we arrived we were impressed with the location. It is not only a day spa but it's also a full Pilates studio and a quite extensive store, with parking right off of Pinckney Street. We arrived just before our time slot as requested by the spa in order to give us time to change into our robes and put of all of our things into the lockers in the bathrooms. The ambiance was relaxing and quite zen, reflecting their description of the spa as "elements of the earth and sea for the mind, body, and spirit." Us two couples met in the tea area between the men's and women's locker rooms as we waited for our massage therapist to take us back to our massage suites. It was very relaxing in the tea area with the large water feature and quiet relaxing music. My massage therapist was Rebecca, and my husband had Laura for his massage. Rebecca was extremely intuitive, and found my knots that I didn't even tell her existed, and made them disappear swiftly. She was extremely adept at balancing working out tension and also allowing for a relaxation. My husband said that his massage was also good, however his massage therapist talked the whole massage about her personal life. Because they talked the whole hour, the sound of their voices traveled down the corridor and could be heard by the rest of us for the duration of our massages. This was the only downside of our experience here. For our facials, I had Marina, and my husband had Shawn. Marina was very thorough, explaining in depth about all of the products, and talking me through the analysis of my skin. I had the essential facial and hubby had the essential facial with the blue orchid face mask and we both felt radiant and exfoliated when we were done. The tea area was relaxing with two different kinds of teas- one herbal and one caffeinated, as well as snacks and lots of water to rehydrate after treatments. The ladies locker room was well appointed, with two showers, three toilets and two stalls for hair drying and styling. I felt like the showers had good water pressure and were clean, and the towels were fluffy and soft. Sometimes when I go for a spa day, when I'm done I feel like it was not money well spent. There have been times in the past where we go for spa days and when we tell the massage therapist what we'd like to be working on, they ignore us. Here, however, I felt like the massage and facial were both worth the time and money spent. They focused on the areas where we needed help, listening to our requests and leaving us feeling relaxed and knot free. I definitely would return here if I lived closer to Charleston. I came with a group of ladies as a part of my friend's bachelorette weekend. Inside is bright, clean, and organized. Like most spas, there are spa products for sale but they also carry a ton of other item -- jewelry, makeup, purses, wallets, sunglasses, shirts, hair accessories, and more. While the merchandise is organized, it can be a little overwhelming because there are so many products. As soon as we got to the back, a few of the massage therapists were ready and waiting. The other girls only had to wait a few minutes. It is dimly lit and tranquil. My massage therapist was nice. He asked the typical questions -- what type of pressure I preferred, focus areas. My sister in law booked us a 2 hour spa experience, and the activities she planned were a total surprise to me. My first experience was the "Organic Purifying Detox". This was the perfect way to start out the day and my therapist even applied a bit of massage with the oil application. I don't remember her name, but she was kind and great at explaining what we were going to do (like I mentioned, this was a totally surprise so even walking into the room, I had no idea what to expect!) The oil blends smelled so good, and were both relaxing and a bit energizing. Next up was the clay masque and steam session - I enjoyed being able to lay there and get the benefits of the steam, instead of traveling to a sauna. The heat was extra soothing. After that, I went and rinsed off, then was seen for my massage. Again, I didn't know what type of massage I was getting. The therapist (a different lady - also don't remember her name, I'm the worst with names...) asked if I had any concerns, and I said just my neck and shoulders were typically tight. She then informed me on her way out that she specializes in trigger point massage, which I'd never heard of, but she left before I could get an explanation. When she returned, the massage started a bit...aggressively? It was just rougher than I'd anticipated, but after we got rolling I came to understand that this must just be how this type of massage is performed. As it turns out, my body had A LOT of knots that needed worked, so it all worked out for the best. I could tell immediately afterwards that I would need a lot of water that day. All in all, the experience and sessions were wonderful. The spa took precautious for COVID, such as taking our temperatures before we were seen and requiring masks. I enjoyed browsing the retail selection, and found that the spa bathrooms were very clean and well-kept. If I ever find myself in Charleston again, I would certainly make it a point to go back! read more

Best service and massage i have found while traveling. The therapist ( forget her name) did a little bit of cupping on my legs also which helped tremendously. I extended my 90 minute session to 2 hours it was so good. If i lived near charleston id go twice a month. They also have a beautiful retail boutique with fabulous finds and unique gifts. a wonderful place for a massage. We came here as a group of six as a gift for a couple friends to get prenatal massages and everyone had a great experience. One person who got the deep tissue massage said it was the beat massage she has ever gotten ( and she gets a lot of massages). One had a scalp and foot massage that was great. The 2 prenatal massages also got good reviews (apparently they have equipment that allows u to stay on ur belly if you want). And then the regular standard therapeutic massage was very good. I have only had 2 massages in my life so hard to really know but it felt great. The girl was very receptive to asking for pressure increases and decreases. It was 110 for 1hr. Went by so fast :/ the staff was so open to us bringing "mock tails" and snacks for the relaxation room since only half of us could go at once. Very friendly staff. Things I would change are the relaxation area. It's a bit small for a large group and I would have liked seats that recline or somewhere u can put your feet. It's literally right outside the treatment room so there is a lot of traffic so not the most relaxing . Overall a great experience. read more

My husband and I had maybe the best massages we've ever had, and very reasonably priced! We both had 90 minute massages and they were fantastic - we walked out of our massages and both said "woah". I had Sheryl and my husband had Giovanna. I can only speak to Sheryl myself but she was absolutely amazing. Like...you could charge way more amazing. My husband said Giovanna got out every knot possible and he hasn't hurt at all since, and he works in a job that is physically demanding. I am so incredibly happy that we stumbled upon this place. Hubby and I celebrated our 10 Year Anniversary with a spa day ‍ We started with the organic detox and cranial massage, followed by a body massage and peppermint patty, followed by a quick catered lunch, and then topped with a steam facial. Rebecca did my massage and was great at focusing on my most tense areas, and Marina did my facial and was very sweet and knowledgeable. They were both informative on what to expect but not chatty during the massage, which is what I prefer. The spa waiting area has a beautiful rock waterfall, yummy herbal teas and cold water, and the locker rooms are stocked with shampoo/conditioner, combs, qtips, hair products, etc to help spiff up after. We did get robes, slippers and a locker for our items, and the place was very clean and everyone was very friendly. The only downside for us is we were hoping to find a place to do a true couples massage (same room), but I like my quiet time so it didn't really matter in the end Sorry, no pics because I do phone-free when living the spa life! read more

Last Saturday, I enjoyed the very best massage by Laura and I have experienced many massages over the years. I wish i could experience Laura's fabulous technique again however, the Aby C. the store owner ruined my day afterward. I waited a week before writing this review because i wanted to separate my emotions from my experience. My daughter purchased my massage for Sept 23 and I totally forgot about it, which I acknowledged to Aby last week. They kept the payment for the massage without contacting me or my daughter. When I signed in for another massage last Saturday (using a gift certificate), I was told they would check into it. What bothered me was they did NOT confirm my massage with me or my daughter. They called my daughter 90 minutes after my scheduled massage, I live 8 minutes away, so had they called, I could have received 30 minutes of the hour massage since we paid in advance. When my daughter mentioned it, they claimed my account had an 843 phone number, which was not accurate. Aby C. was rude; I only expected accountability that they should have confirmed my appointment. Instead, she huffed and puffed and treated me in a disrespectful manner as she almost knocked me down as she walked past me, disrespecting me, and ended the dialogue unresolved. She was not courteous or respectful. Had I been white, I might have been treated in a respectful manner. Charleston has a reputation for racism. My experience demonstrates Earthling Day Spa needs customer service and diversity training. Several times, I calmly and politely restated I only expected accountability and that they should have called me or my daughter promptly when I was a no-show since they were paid for the massage. I did not expect a credit or free massage, I just asked for accountability that they made a mistake which contributed to my negative experience. Aby C. did not acknowledge responsibility and was not willing to assist with my negative experience. I was so frustrated that I did not want to spend my remaining gift card balance, I requested a new gift certificate for someone else because i did not want anything from this store. After reading other negative experience rating responses from Aby C. I am confident Aby C. will state they gave me customer service that was second to none and that confirmations and customer calls are a courtesy, not a requirement. Earthling did not confirm my appointment with me or my daughter or call during the appointment time. Aby C. needs diversity and training to be respectful and valuable to all customers including customers on vacation, birthdays and bridal groups. read more

I cashed in a gift certificate for a massage package recently and had a wonderful experience with Jen. My mother bought be a Javanese spa treatment, which was a 2-hour treatment that included a 1-hour massage, salt scrub, aromatherapy, steam chamber, and more that I've forgotten because I was in absolute bliss. I'm one of those weird people who hates being quiet during a massage (the idea of a stranger silently touching my body makes me feel awkward AF), so I appreciated that Jen was able to chat with me the entire time. We chatted for almost the entire 2-hour experience, and I left feeling like I'd made a new friend. My favorite part (after the massage, of course) was rinsing off in their shower, which had a rain-style showerhead that made you feel like you were showering in a rain forest. One of the best massage experiences! I was a little upset because our stay started off with the whole spa being out of robes. Not a huge deal, but we were paying for a pampering session. Once we moved past that, I went to my private room and was met by the masseuse who asked for my problem areas. I have a bad shoulder. During the massage she spent extra time really working on my shoulder and releasing tension. It was so refreshing to find a massage spa that actively listens when you say what you would like worked on. There was no scripted massage. My girl friends and I spent a fabulous morning at Earthling Day Spa while in Charleston for a girl's weekend! My two friends got massages, while I went with a (my first actually) facial. I thought the spa checked all of the boxes for what I was looking for: polite, professional, quiet, relaxing, and thorough. I was a little nervous that I would have some redness post-facial, but it was recommended to me to upgrade to a luxury mask (the de-stress anti-inflammatory one, maybe?), and I didn't experience any skin irritation. I loved my spa experience here and would definitely return. In addition to the spa experience, I also really had a nice time browsing in the little shop. I have been a long time member of this spa, but unfortunately after my last experience, my family, friends and I will not be returning. I have always had my facials and waxing done by one of their estheticians named Freddy, who was very courteous and professional. She left after the pandemic, so I had to find a new esthetician there. I book a full leg wax, ab and chest wax and facial for my friend and I on Valentine's Day. My friend started his appointment and then I was called for mine. My esthetician turned out to be the owner. The appointment started off fine, but after an hour of still working on my legs, she became stressed and saying how they were super booked. She started breathing heavily and moving quickly which led to many times of her not fully ripping the wax strips off and once even ripping the strip off when the wax had not adhered to the strip, which was painful. This processes just made me stressful and not wanting to continue with waxing the other parts of my body. After telling her this, she mentions that she doesn't even have time to do any of the others services that I booked because the leg wax was taking too long. She complained about having to use tubs of wax and how she doesn't charge enough for men's. I questioned her experience with working on men, which she has but would rather work on women. I am not that hairy of a person, so I didn't expect leg waxing to take two and a half hours. The prices for this Spa are not split between men and women, it just says leg waxing, so for her to complain to a customer about the services she provides and doesn't charge enough for is not the clients problem and is completely unprofessional. After we were done my friend told me that he was able to get all the services done by the lady who worked on him; and he has much more hair then I do. I asked another one of her workers about the owner and she was sorry that I got her because she is the worst waxer in the spa. This really upset me because for the amount of money that you spend at this place, you do not want to have a bad experience. I called the very next day to complain about the waxing and try to understand how my friend was able to get all services and I wasn't. Also, address the fact that she claims to have 40 years of experience, but doesn't know how to properly wax. She immediately became defensive, unempathic and started saying that "we are not waxing men anymore." Which is fine because she is horrible at it apparently, but that doesn't excuse what I went through. I wasn't even asking for a refund or anything. I was trying to explain that she has people on her staff who can better wax men and it's not my fault that she doesn't charge enough for men. But she was unapologetic about the whole experience, gave excuses, and just kept saying that "we won't do any more men's waxing" and dismissing the whole conversation. This spa has great workers, but the owner is not. She is unprofessional and she cannot manage her time well, so we will not be returning. read more

Admittedly I've had two massages in two days. I can't think of a more refreshing break during my day full of walking in Charleston. (Over 15,000 steps logged on my Fitbit, in case anyone is counting.) This East Bay Street spa is quite lovely. Relaxing lighting, clean changing rooms, and plush robes. (A little different from my traditional cheap NYC Chinatown basement massage). The pressure wasn't super strong, but nonetheless it was a relaxing experience. The lighting was perfect. The music wasn't too loud. It was busy, but I was not distracted with the other customers in the calm, quiet waiting area. The best part: they were able to get me in somewhat last minute. My mother and I each booked a 90minute Swedish massage This did not feel like the ideal $150+ $30 tip spa experience for me. Called to book an appt and thankfully, they were able to accommodate me later the same day. I had an hour session with a woman named Rachel and she did not disappoint! I'm sure this is common, but when asked, I asked her to target the neck/shoulder area and she was excellent. She then obliterated all tensions that were stored in my hamstrings and calves. And when she worked my hands, I just wanted to take her home with me. The place was nice and really set the tone. I visit the Charleston area a few times a year, and will definitely be back. Rachel wooed my whoas and gave me the best massage I've ever had (followed closely by a therapist in Mexico). I was so looking forward to my massage that my husband and I booked for his birthday, but what a disappointment! We arrived early, so we waited in the front shop that sells jewelry and other items for about 20 min until they took us back to the holding area. The spas toilets were broken so all guests were instructed to use the employee bathroom back in their storage area, which I understand things happen however when booking a spa experience you don't really want to be corralled in their storage room with a line of guests waiting outside. So back to the holding area...the morning was busy so many guests are being ushered in and out, therapists are lugging dirty laundry through this area as they clean their rooms. So definitely not peaceful and spa like. They offer us robes but looking at the few other guests that accepted their offer we declined as these guests were now having to carry all their clothes, shoes, purses in their arms and I'm assuming the only place to change was the storage bathroom. Men and women are all together in this very public waiting area. My husband gets called first for his massage and I'm left waiting, finally after 15 minutes I get called. I'm immediately annoyed because my room is directly off the busy waiting area which I know is going to be loud and not relaxing. My therapist did greet me and I think asked if there was anything she needed to know but that was about it, the exchange was awkward and abrupt. I changed got on table which was cold, no warmer or warm blankets. She came back in room and started abruptly with ice cold hands and freezing lotion. So I spent the 90 min freezing with goose bumps. She never asked if I was comfortable, if pressure was ok. I did tell her I preferred deeper pressure but the rest of the message pressure was inconsistent at best and most of the time I was left feeling annoyed because she just didn't seem to know what she was doing. What she did on one side was not what she did on the other side, the order was weird. She poked my feet (no massage) and then went right to my face making weird scribbles on my eyes and forehead! She squeezed my head, smushing my ears backwards and scratching me with a long thumb nail. By that point I was so done and wanted to get out of there. I think she was ready to be done too, bc once the time was up she bolted. No easing you awake or asking how it was? My husband finished before I did and did say his massage was good, his table was heated and warm and his therapist spent time prior to massage asking about areas to concentrate on, etc. His only complaint was that she talked for about 30 min before quieting for the last hour. This place does get good reviews so I'm not sure if this was an off day?? If therapist maybe was new?? Either way I left feeling cranky and annoyed unfortunately. read more
