He even told me never to trust any doctor because only I know my body better than anyone else. I wanted to cry, but held back my tears. It's hard when you're going through autoimmune issues and you're left feeling over and over again like it's all in your head. He didn't make me feel that way at all. My symptoms fall into the category of "not fully understood" but he didn't dismiss me and I left feeling like I know more about my issues and symptoms that I did going in. I hope to not have to see him again, but if I do I would welcome another visit.

I decided to see Dr. Shim instead on my own because I was very anxious about my symptoms and I didn't want to wait over 4 months to see a rheumatologist. I am so glad I followed my gut instinct. I developed severe headache recently and my internist was concerned that I may have an autoimmune condition called giant cell arteritis. I did Google search on my own and I couldn't sleep for days after finding out more about this horrible condition. I called his office and I was able to see him on the same day. First, his office staff was very efficient and friendly both over the phone and in person. Then, to my surprise Dr. Shim saw me right on time. At my age, I have seen hundreds of doctors. I honest cannot remember the last time I saw a physician on time without having to wait for at least half an hour. Dr. Shim knocked on the door and he walked in with a huge smile on his face. He greeted me with such warmth and empathy that I felt at ease right away. He has an excellent bedside manner and listened to all my symptoms and concerns attentively without any interruptions. He also asked many thoughtful questions of his own after I was done. Then, he proceeded to examining me after asking for my permission for at least 5 minutes. This was in stark contrast to my primary care doctor and endocrinologist, who finish the entire visit in less than 5 minutes and walk out of the room without even laying a single finger on my body. Dr. Shim looked inside my mouth, listened to my heart and lungs, examined all my joints and felt every pulse in the my body including over my temples. After he completed his examination, he informed me I likely do not have giant cell arteritis. However, to be certain, he ordered pertinent blood tests and even referred me to see an eye doctor urgently on the same day. He promptly called me back the next day with the results and reassured me that I do not have this scary autoimmune condition. I was so ecstatic that I cried out with joy upon hearing those words. He informed me my headache was likely due to my extremely high thyroid hormone level, which he had checked the day prior. Upon readjusting the dose of my thyroid hormone medication, viola, all my symptoms magically melted away in a couple of days. Now, I feel like myself and fantastic again! It is so refreshing to finally meet a doctor in this day and age who actually listens, examines, thinks and genuine cares for his patients. I will be forever indebted and grateful to Dr. Shim for his kindness, generosity, expertise and professionalism. I give Dr. Shim my highest recommendation without any reservation!

He's still an awesome doctor). I have been a patient of Dr. Malouf a little over two years now, after my work insurance changed & then after being laid off while on leave after being injured. Luckily I was able to carry him over and am blessed to still be able to see him. I still thank my aunt who used to be an RN and had worked the same hospital he had been at years ago for referring me to him. I am not a fan of going to the doctors, AT ALL! Especially, after finding out online, after a year, seeing my previous one, that my most recent nd long term doctor was on probation and how he pretty much decided after taking cash for services, that he was no longer going to handle my care, in the middle of it. With zero warning. Even though I was still technically under his care. This is where a good doctor definitely outshines a crappy doctor! Dr. Malouf on the other hand, has been nothing but patient, accessible, kind and friendly, which for me, means the world. Some of us have a very hard time talking about our health and vulnerabilities. While he will take the time to listen, he will also give pretty sound advice and recommendations if needed. He will treat you with respect. His office staff is great. There are times they are overbooked or busy and you might be rushed through or asked to follow up with another appointment for any secondary diagnosis due to work load, but that doesn't mean he will not follow up, nor respond to your calls or messages. He is the first doctor I have ever had that didn't make me wait a week or more for an answer to a question or concern or for important paperwork to be handled. If I needed a form filled out or anything else, he or another doctor in the group he is with at my home location were quick to help out if he were not available to do it himself. I highly recommend him.

Staff is nice and respectful, too btw. My problem is the waiting time. It's better to come at the time you're told in the text message, not earlier. I was seen by my doctor 30 minutes after the actual appointment time and had to wait for the nurse to come back in the room for my paperwork for 5-10 minutes. This is the longest wait time I've had for an appointment.

It's been five (5) months since my last updated post. I received a strange call recently asking…read morewhy I sent my UCLA internist an envelope with Pet Scan CD Roms busted in half inside an envelope mailed from a Santa Monica mail center. They said the return address label had my name with a Santa Monica mail center address and it was mailed from that location. I told them I never mailed anything; have never lived nor had any mailing address in Santa Monica; have been living out of State since last year and that for the last 1.5 years I've been waiting for my CD roms to be corrected with a proper DICOM format to be either sent to my Westwood mailing address or available for my in person pickup. There are clearly several demonic staff members who work for Mark Urman MD at play here; someone actually did something like that from his offices or his lab; his entire staff belongs in the garbage. He should fire them all including the nasty uncooperative Monica in the Cardiac Lab (she called security when I walked in for the fourth time asking for my CD roms because they would not give them to me properly formatted). While Mark Urman is considered to be a very good physician (therefore the two stars); you will struggle with his staff; his office manager and his additional desk staff inside Cardiac Imaging Nuclear Associates Lab. You will have to fight to receive your nuclear medical scans even if you write Mark Urman, MD a fax or letter. They must not give them to him or he just ignores your letters and faxes. If it had been disclosed to me in the very beginning his practice uses a "private nuclear lab" that Cedars Sinai Medical Center has no access to; I would have considered that problematic and not stayed in his medical practice. It is very hard to determine if they try sabotaging an exiting patient at his request or if the staff is trying to sabotage Mark Urman, MD. The lack of being able to exit any medical practice with privacy of where and who you are going to next for your medical care with CD roms of imaging you already paid a lot of money for due to a decade of concierge fees; this would cause me to steer clear of any medical practice that would do this to you. I will follow up with yet another updated review once I know my current physican was able to actually read what was sent by Cardiac Imaging Nuclear Associates into the UCLA electronic system as for my Cardiac Pet Scans. That appointment is not near anytime soon. In the meantime, I'm not a disgruntled difficult patient and was at this medical practice over 10 years. The nasty staff problems began once I tried to leave the practice due to unaffordability going forward. The newest physician offered to me for same price I had been paying I felt was not a good fit for me with bedside manner after seeing him once when Mark Urman MD was not in the office.

He is compassionate, caring, knowledgeable and calms any fears you may have. And if you're being treated in the infusion center, Selma and Arliz are a great team.
