My wife and I visited Colony Cats, Cat Welfare, and Cozy Cat Cottage to name a few. With all of the wonderful potential fur kids we saw we didn't see the one that we just connected with. We decided to go to Pets Without Parents as it was a rescue that we had not been to before and it was just down Indianola from our house. We had no expectations when we went to PWP other than we knew that they were a smaller rescue that was located in an older house. When we walked in we were pleasantly greeted by a volunteer and showed where the hand sanitizer (so that we could clean our hands between kitties). The individual who greeted us was figuratively knee deep in cleaning dog cages but, she was friendly and responsive when we had questions. There, in the center cage on the bottom was this beautiful kitten! Both of our hearts melted when we saw him, as he was nearly the spitting image of the cat we had just lost. The individual working the shelter that day let us know that those two kittens were meant to be picked up today by the person that was adopting them. Our hearts collectively dropped as then we knew that of the cats at PWP, these were the ones that we shouldn't get attached. We petted all the cats that we could, well save the brand new box of feral kittens! I am sure that in no time they'll be adoptable little fluffs! Despite not seeing a cat/kitten we connected to we decided to put in an application. The application was very similar to others you might see when adoption a new animals. Asked for references, job information, current pet information, veterinary contact, as well as things the adopter's view on declawing. Much to my surprise I received a call the very next day from the PWP shelter manager! I thought that the call may have been to clarify the application we had submitted but, it was not. The adoption on the beautiful kitten (that was meant to go home the day before) had fallen through. They wanted to know if we would like to come meet the little we had seen the day before. We quickly (and gleefully) went back to PWP to officially meet & pet this kitten. Cat carrier in tow, of course, just in case! If you adopt through PWP you get a wellness check up card for use at the vet where the animal has received their vaccines & spay/neuter. We took this offer so that we could get our new little friend checked out before we established him at our vet. This was great as he had a cold (that they were treating him for) and we were able to proceed to the next step in treatment, an antibiotic shot to help knock out the remainder of the kitty cold. The adoption contract at PWP is more heavily worded than others might be. There is a provision in it where if the contract is broken that PWP can seek money from the adopter who has broken the contract. It seems to me that this is included to bring home the gravity that is the responsibility of adopting a furkid. Oh, and I can verify that the folks at PWP do check references, which is great since they are working to place pets in well suited homes. P.S. Pets Without Parents is loud. With the pupsters looking for a new home in the adjacent room, any kitten/cat adopted from these guys will likely be a-okay with loud sounds and barking dogs. Train tracks also run right next door to the rescue. P.P.S. Our new kitten is fitting in purrfectly at home.

Best dog training, boarding and daycare in Columbus!…read more First impressions are everything, and when stepping into All-Purpose K9 facility you don't hear dogs barking - all is calm. I've never experienced this at another dog daycare before! I was elated that all dogs were not crammed together and had space, along with the trainers being close by. My German Shepherd Husky mixes have loved learning all that Paige and team have put in front (more like to the side ) of them. Their controlled walking has been a night and day difference, especially when there are other distractions around. We've continued to work on everything that we have learned; heel, sit, place, and come. The first time i went in they left me alone i was just looking at the cats, didn't pet them if they didn't want to be pet. Longer story: we took in a 2+ year-old rescue miniature-pinscher who was not even housebroken, let alone trained. He would bark at the drop of a hat, snarl at strangers, eat irregularly, sprint out of open doors/attempt escape from fencing, mark inside the house, anxiously guard resources (space and/or closeness to preferred humans), obstinately ignore commands; the run of the gamut for small dog issues. Enter Kevin and Capital Canine Dog Training's "21-Day Board and Train" program. From our initial emails and through the in-home consultation, we could tell we had a good fit with Kevin/Capital Canine. This was someone that understood our concerns and also spoke patiently and realistically about the results we could expect over the three weeks that our dog Milo would spend with Capital Canine. Just as important as the training that Milo would receive from Kevin would be the training that we would need to do to ourselves with help and advice of Capital Canine. Over the 21 days that Milo was in the "Board & Train" program, we got regular updates on his progress via texts, pictures, and videos, showing our boy was in good spirits and making strides. What we thought was impossible, Kevin and his team demonstrated was eminently, if incrementally, achievable with Milo in their hands and across varied exposure environments (in-house, outdoors, and in public places). Following Milo's return home, we (re)introduced our neighbors to this once-fiesty character, and they were shocked. "This can't be the same dog! Who is this sweet boy?" Harrison and I are SO glad that we made the decision to train our dog, Hudson, with Capital Canine…read more Kevin is the absolute best, and we fully trusted him with our pup for the 3 week board and train program. Before training, Hudson struggled with separation anxiety, couldn't go in a crate or car, was very impulsive and would run away at the park with unreliable recall and boundaries. He is a very sweet natured and fun dog who is great with people, he just needed help learning how to control his energy. Harrison and I did not know where to begin with training, and we felt overwhelmed. Kevin made it extremely easy for us by doing all the hard work in establishing a behavioral foundation during the 3 week board and train. He even kept Hudson for an extra couple of days as he was committed to getting Hudson comfortable in a crate before bringing him home to us. The transformation has been incredible. After Hudson came home to us, there were immediate improvements. He could hold a place, sit, and down through distraction, and rest in his crate when asked. He understood how the E-collar worked, had better recall, and could heel and walk on a leash without pulling. These basic commands have truly changed our day to day and have helped us create more structure in Hudson's day. On top of the 3 week program, Capital Canine continued to be supportive and helpful. Kevin worked with us in 4 additional sessions after the board and train to teach Harrison and myself how to continue the training throughout different environments and scenarios. He would respond to texts in-between sessions when Harrison and I had questions or were unsure of how we were training. He was a great teacher and helped us understand how dogs think and how we can better communicate with them. We really looked forward to these sessions and enjoyed our time with Kevin! Hudson always had a blast too. A month has now passed since the board and train. We have kept up with Hudson's training and are confident taking Hudson in public, to parks, family and friend's houses, and he is a more confident dog in those spaces. The training has been life changing. I am so happy that we did this, not only because it makes our lives easier, but I also know it makes Hudson's life better too now that he knows boundaries and limits and doesn't have to feel as anxious as before.
