Columbus Dog Connection is not a physical shelter, but rather a no-kill rescue organization that saves dogs from abandonment or abuse by placing them in foster homes until they are found permanent homes. They also take dogs scheduled for euthanasia away from over-populated humane societies and animal control shelters. The CDC website serves as a hub or network of humane organizations and adoption agencies. It represents loads of rescues and services throughout Ohio and links into lists of pets up for adoption, including those fostered specifically by CDC volunteers. It also provides links to adoptions events, reference phone numbers, and legisislative information. Local businesses and fundraisers help keep this fabulous non-profit organization afloat. Mingle with the Mutts is a popular 'mixer' for people and dogs at the Franklin County Dog Shelter (1731 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus 43207) on the first and third Sundays of the month. They take the Mingle outdoors to various parks and other venues during the summer months. It's a great way to see how the dogs interact and also help keep the shelter dogs socialized. This place will not give you a chance to even look at the pet you're interested in if your situation is 100% perfect for them. 7 ppl have looked at a cat and Mirna won't even give me the time of day to say hi, all because I can't promise to separate them from my current cat for two weeks straight (I know what's ideal, but do yall pay rent?!) Extremely disappointed, sounds like you aren't very interested in getting this seemingly difficult to adopt animal a home. read more

We tried to adopt a cat from Columbus Dog Connection. We provided all of the information that they requested, and we were completely honest. Their response was that due to "conflicting" information with the vets that we had gone to for our last two cats, and the fact that our cats died of cancer and feline leukemia (even though he had been vaccinated), that they were unable to allow us to give a cat a good home. I would never recommend this organization to anyone looking to adopt, unless you are looking to just be judged by people who don't even know you. read more

I took my dog to get neuter, they're friendly and kind. I paid $80 for everything. They even mention how whining my dog was! Overall everything is good! Before we left one of staff told me how to take care of the dog and we got some med for him. My dog peeing all over the place and felt so bad for them, I'm so sorry! Recommend this place, nice people and they took care my dog well. Still on waiting process to see how my dog doing with his scar. But again, thank you so much! read more

I took my baby to get spayed. I did everything that they told me to do. I get a call few hours later saying that my babies heart stopped and she wasn't responsive. Remind you, this call they told me that she was fine and moving, but when I saw her, she looked completely paralyzed and had brain damage. I took her to a vet hospital, where the next day she passed. She was in an oxygen box, cords wrapped all around her, and all I had to do was sit there and watch her suffer. In her notes, she was sedated at 1:53pm, and then the next line in her notes say that she was unresponsive and her heart stopped beating for 2 minutes at 2:08pm. Maybe more, I'm not too sure what went on in that room. The doctor had also said that she thinks the reaction was instant, so 15 minutes and you didn't realize my baby wasn't breathing and her whole face was turning purple? I've never had an experience like this before, it all happened so fast. I didn't get to say goodbye to my baby. I've had about 20+ cats all my life and not one has ever had something like this happen to them. Also remind you, they were indoor/outdoor cats. My baby was strictly indoor, and was perfectly healthy all of her life. Have never had any issues, and when I would take her to get check ups, she was perfect. She was healthy. And seeing her the way she was, wasn't right. It didn't feel right, and I knew something must've happened to her that wasn't supposed to happen. This is something that gets done with animals, not just cats, but animals DAILY. Please, please, please, be careful with where you take your babies. I trusted these people with mine, and now she's no longer around and I will blame myself forever. Hug your babies a little tighter for me. read more

I am in town visiting and popped in today with the intention of volunteering. Kellie met me and was so welcoming and friendly. Everything is well organized and very clean, and the animals on property were loving and well cared for. It is clear that the fur babies are top priority here! read more

The previous review did a great job of describing the CDC. I'll just add that we got a pet there today, a rescue cat - they do a few of them although dogs are the main focus. The experience we had was excellent - warm, caring, and professional. I would certainly recommend checking them out to anyone looking to give an animal a loving home. read more

Went to go look at a dog that was up for adoption after seeing him on the facebook page. got yelled at for not making an appointment when it never says to make an appointment online. The lady was very rude when we were asking questions and then proceeded to contradict herself on all of the information she gave us. After asking us a few questions, judged us for residing with our parents. Then told us to go to Franklin county shelter (which we love). Will never be stepping foot on this property again and feel bad for the animals in there because with unprofessional workers like that they will never be adopted. read more

$95 is what I paid for neuter and microchip plus dhpp, bordetella and rabies shots. That was quite a bargain, but the best part was that they were nice people. Before I took Louie home they made sure I understood what to expect and when to give him pain meds. My little Louie had no problems after the surgery. He healed well and quickly. In May of 2014 Dog Connection came to Buckeye Lake Ohio and spayed Bella & Thunder and also 3 of my daughter cats for free plus the first rabies shots for each cat. I have come to two of the CDC vaccination clinics with my dogs and definitely recommend it, as it is very affordable and the staff/volunteers are great. Rabies, Bordatella and DHPP are only $13 each or $33 total if your pet needs all three. They also offer heartworm and FIV testing, microchipping, and flea/heartworm prevention medicine. The clinics can get pretty busy so you will likely spend quite a bit of time in your car waiting, but I find it to be well worth it. read more

Our dog, Howie, came from Columbus Dog Connection and we couldn't be happier. The foster families truly care about placing the dogs in good homes, and they are able to tell you about the dog because the dogs live in their homes. And now they have cats! Such a great organization. read more

I have utilized the CDC's vaccination clinic several times and I wouldn't even think about going anywhere else unless I moved far away from Columbus. They're affordable and all-around awesome folks. You're in and out of the vaccination clinic in less than 10 minutes. No appointment needed. $30 for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. That's a steal. Take a look at their wish list on their website and be sure to bring an item with you if you can. These folks do great work, but they need our help! read more

They did great with spaying my dog . The only reason I give 4 stars is because at first when I got there the older lady that's up in the front was rude at first over a paper not being filled out . She said were told 100% of the time to do this paper and I was not . I was also told on the phone I was going to get an email about the appointment and I was not . After being there in the beginning for about 15 min the lady was being nicer . Maybe she was just having a bad day but I didn't like how she was acting at first . Overall though , the clinic did great . My puppy has been home for 3 days is is doing good so far . read more

I utilized the CDC's clinic for the first time last week to have my American Bull Terrier spayed and vaccinated. Not only were they extremely affordable, but they are also a very caring group of folks. My Sheba had been a stray with some trust & social issues and the staff was very understanding and accommodating. Today, only a week later, her incision has completely healed and is she is leaping & bounding around like she never underwent surgery! read more
