Overall, it is my perception that staff at Metro are generally not as friendly or cheerful as staff at Loblaws. Prices at Metro are also generally higher than other comparable chain grocery stores. Although, admittedly, their deals on prepared foods are quite good. They will occasionally have a Family Meal Deal where you get a roasted chicken, a pound of ribs, a large box of potato wedges and 2 tubs of salad (a pound each, with choices like coleslaw, potato or macaroni) for $20. Their pizzas are also not bad. Oh, there is one thing that I like about Metro more than Loblaws: their house brand "Selection" puff pastry is AMAZING! It's flakey and puffy, but not oily nor greasy. Loblaws' house brand "President's Choice" puff pastry is super heavy and oily/greasy. So I guess prepared foods and puff pastry, is why I like Metro, lol. I guess I'll keep going to the Independent and Farm Boy for my meat which is a better quality.

Since then I've come here every month or so and today while with my child I had far too many groceries and had issues with my cart and spilled a few items such as coke and chips on the way out. One of your employees who was pushing carts, a nice young guy with tattoos stopped and assisted me and even went so far as to bring the spilled cokes to my car. They had a pretty decent selection of faux meats and tons of healthy food options like salads and big displays of nuts and dried fruits. They also carried spicy Casanova chips which I find are hard to find. They had a lot of take and go items like cut up fruit, sandwiches, sushi, and cheese platters. Store is bright, clean. Took a bit to figure out the layout and where to find items. Cashier was the friendliest I have ever come across. I found some prices were a tad on the high side for some items. Cute store. If I lived in the community, I would frequent more often.

They have lots of food samples near their hot and ready to go meal section as well as the cheese section. They also have really good sales and deals. The staff are very friendly. I have to say (as someone who doesn't drink much alcohol) that my favourite part of the store was their joint LCBO and Beer Store section. Although a small section of the store, it had the selection of a strip mall sized LCBO and larger cases of beer. This will definitely be on our list of places to grab groceries being only 10 mins or so from our place.

Their main competitor is No Frills under the Loblaws banner. Some Food Basics are not that nice in that the store is a bit grungy and the clientele are generally rude (depends on the postal code that the store is in), but this one in Orleans is one of the nicer ones on both accounts. The store is big and brightly lit. They are well stocked and staff are not surly. Customers are respectful on the most part. If you have been turned off by Food Basics in the past, give this one on Innes a try, you might have a more favourable opinion afterwards. This location is in a plaza. Lots of free parking.
