Stumbled across this little gem while on the hunt for lunch on Easter Monday before catching the ferry to Horseshoe Bay. At first, we picked another restaurant but discovered it to be closed then found this gem on Google with high ratings. First impressions - this tucked away little Korean restaurant is inside a motel inn and made us second guess about going in. We parked and went in and there were 3 other tables of Asians there - a good sign. We were warmly greeted by the only server there and promptly handed menus and was served water. We ordered the beef ribs, short beef ribs with potato noodles in soup, and deep fried dumplings. Food came out quickly and was pleasantly delicious! The spicy salad was beautiful as well as the few Banchan's included. My boyfriend said this was probably the best Korean beef ribs he has ever had and wish the restaurant was in Vancouver on the mainland where we live, haha. A cute quiet Mom-and-Pop shop that has great service, delicious food, and affordable prices. Highly recommend despite its weird exterior appearances!

We finally had to find out what all the hype was about!…read more We kept seeing this Japanese restaurant get top ratings and heard it was really popular in Nanaimo, so we decided to try it for ourselves. Was it actually worth all the hype? We ordered the Sora Omakase Sashimi (8 types, chef's choice) along with a few other special rolls, and the sashimi was the real star of the show. The fish was incredibly fresh and generously thick-cut, with a great variety of premium sashimi. We were impressed by the creativity, generous portions, and presentation. Compared to other sushi places we've tried in the city, the quality and attention to detail here really made a difference. The prices are a bit higher than some other restaurants on the island, but after tasting the food, we thought the quality made it worth it. If you love sashimi, we especially recommend trying their sashimi options. There are plenty of premium choices. The restaurant itself has a modern-chic atmosphere, and it was BUSY. We saw a mix of locals, visitors, and a steady stream of takeout orders. Despite the crowd, our food came out surprisingly quickly, and the quality stayed top-notch. Whether you want a casual sushi night for two or a place to celebrate with a group, the menu has enough variety to please everyone. We came in wondering if the hype was real, and left understanding exactly why it's so popular. Honestly, Nori deserves the 5 stars from us. We're not the Michelin Guide, but we can definitely see why people are talking about it. Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 4/5 Presentation: 4/5 Parking: 3/5 Tips: * Reservations are highly recommended. * Walk-ins are accepted, but be prepared for a potentially long wait during busy times. * The menu is extensive, so take your time deciding. * Great option for everything from date night to group celebrations. Would I Return: Yes ‍

The experience starts warmly, with friendly greetings on arrival and small touches like the charming water containers brought to the table. The dining room also offers a pleasantly private eating experience, complemented by attentive, quality service. On my first visit, I noticed there was a bit of a wait for the food, but it quickly became clear why. Everything was being prepared fresh. From the dining room you could hear the confident knife work coming from the kitchen, including onions being meticulously sliced thin for several of the dishes. I have tried a number of items from the menu, with the spicy hot chicken remaining my favourite. The extra few minutes of waiting has always been justified by the quality of the meal, particularly the texture, coating, and bite of each piece of chicken. One small opportunity for improvement would be the window presentation. The restaurant is fortunate to sit in a beautiful location, but some of the large signage blocks what could otherwise be an excellent view of the Chief. I would recommend Blue House to anyone looking for a good dose of spice or a quality family style meal. The food feels freshly prepared, generously presented, and consistently satisfying, with the added benefit of a more private dining atmosphere and consistently good service.

However, portions were large, fairly priced, the servers were attentive, and we left satisfied. It's a large space, good for groups and families.
