A small little hideaway in the centre of town. Small meaning seating for about 20 guest and not all together. It was good sushi and prompt but I also went when it wasn't too busy. The bento box was nice and sashimi was fresh and teriyaki tasty. Tempura crispy and hot. I nice restaurant if you are staying in town and you need to look for it as not on the main drag. Construction of the road should be better once it's done but a good little place for sushi in Nanaimo. Staff were friendly and courteous. read more

Went to Campbell River for pink salmon fishing and on the way back to Richmond before taking the ferry we had some time for dinner. For sure is a small business owner not like the franchised restaurant. Great food and service in the small remote town on Vancouver Island which is pretty good. I think the cook is Korean even though it's not Japanese, but the ramen are as good as the Japanese one! Portions and prices are not like in Vancouver, huge and great value. Recommend. read more

I had a spicy chicken donburi and a double double roll. Both I was quite satisfied with, what was most surprising is the price, extremely affordable. The service and atmosphere could use use a little work but overall I would definitely recommend if you're looking for some cheap and good sushi. read more

Cute little spot with the friendliest service! We ordered take out on a weekday evening and waited maybe 10-15 minutes max, but we were offered hot tea while we waited since it was so cold out. So nice of the lady! I really appreciated this since being from SF my idea of cold is about 50F not 25F! The food was also ridiculous! HUGE portions at a really good price! We got the Bento box A and B and were pleasantly surprised with how much food we got and how piping hot the miso soup was even though we still had to walk back to our hotel with it. The only thing though is that I wouldn't consider it beef don since there was no rice included. This was a little bit of a miscommunication but I was still overall happy with it and it helped me out with the low carb thing i'm doing for my new years resolution so win-win! read more

Amazing taste and fresh $13 - The 2 chefs pictured here have worked for over 15 years - House salad - amazing and big enough to share $5.50 Con -The patio is nice, but there are unsavoury 'characters' that walk between downtown along China steps. We were interrupted by someone asking for change and someone swearing on the phone better to sit inside. - Tuna and Salman sashimi - the tuna was still frozen, 8 pieces for $10.25 - Not sure I like the name Playboy roll it sounded offensive and didn't order it. The tonkotsu ramen is superb, with the rich, soul-filling quality one hopes for. On a rainy night, the best thing I can imagine doing in downtown Nanaimo is ducking in here for a bowl, a couple of draft Sapporo pints, and a cozy think in the warmth of the back room. read more

Also very good maki rolls & bento boxes. After living in Vancouver for 25 years I will admit my standards for food are very high. This Japanese place is awesome. I'm a picky eater as far as quality of ingredients and flavours go - and I rarely write reviews. The flavours here of their broths are amazing! The tempura udon is such good value for under 10 dollars - you'll be full and satisfied! I've also had spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and crunch rolls, as well as tuna donburi. All of these have been delish! The miso soup and chicken ramen are also amazing! This place should be packed at lunch time! read more

Nanaimo hasn't had a sushi spot downtown, aside from the less wallet-friendly dinner bistro, Firehouse Grill, since 2009, before the bulk of the remaining businesses vacated Harbour Park Mall to become Port Place. Nana Syshi serves rolls, sides and Bento Boxes, the prices are decent, but running average for Nanaimo sushi. The service was blazing fast and the employees are prompt and polite. The sushi is quite good and I will definitely be back. Their platter prices are definitely a bit breathtaking but I imagine their options and sizes are far more generous than at Nemo, Ai or Tomo. read more
