I am honestly so sad that I feel compelled to write this. I loved this shop. The guys there are all great, and I have always felt extremely welcomed and engaged with from the moment I walked in. But the pricing of the shop has become highway robbery. I used to go to Dapper Barber pre-pandemic. Back then, a haircut AND beard trim without tip cost $60. This was already well above my usual haircut expenditure. However, the excellent quality, care and experience always justified the cost. Not to mention my visits included hot towel treatment and scalp massage FOR FREE. Every time, I was blown away with my haircut and experience, and I was always happy to leave a large tip, usually getting me to $75 for the total experience. During the pandemic, prices rose. And I get that, I expected that. Times were tough on everyone, and the shop has to make ends meet and take care of their employees. I'm all for that. Haircut and beard trim now cost $75 total, not including tip. Pricey, but I understand and appreciate it, I still try to support. At this point, they have stopped doing the towel and scalp treatment. I chalked it up to the pandemic and hygiene concerns. Totally fair and makes sense. Now we come to today, two years in and restrictions winding down. How are the prices? A regular haircut, with NO beard trim, hot towel or scalp treatment is $100?? Add a beard trim, is what now $75 extra? And you want the added amenities that were included before, tack on an additional $30 for towel treatment?? So what was once a $60 full experience, including hair, beard, towel and scalp, is now $200+. Have the guys gotten better at their skill? Surely. Is it nearly 4x better than it was 2 years ago? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But I don't want to talk down to the employees. They're all extremely talented and kindhearted guys. They're good at what they do and deserve all the praise. I want to address the business owner at large. I can appreciate and understand the need to make ends meet and the desire to do right by your employees during these difficult times. In fact I can commend you for that. What I can't commend, is your negligance to realize that your customers have been living through the exact same pandemic. We have also been dealing with the same economic struggles you have these past two years. Times are tough, insanely so. We feel it too. But scamming your clients out of hundreds of dollars for a haircut that is likely marginally better than two years ago, and attaching exorborant fees to amenities that were free not so long ago, is nothing short of insulting, and insidious. I would love nothing more than to come back to Dapper Barber and support this business that I loved. To still pay as big a tip as I can to support the employees who I know do amazing work. But the amount of greed on display here, the advantage being taken on customers who are likely also struggling through these past two years, is sickening. Likely this post will be buried, but I hope one of you reads this, and consider the path you've decided to walk. read more

This is no ordinary barbershop, you aren't here for just the haircut itself, but for the Dapper experience as a whole. Appointments can be made with ease online, and you can specify who you want your barber to be and what you are making an appointment for, like a haircut, beard lining, shave, etc. All barbers (my barber being Oscar Estilos) are true experts at what they do. They offer a complimentary drink and a facial massage with a hot towel as well with most services, which is the cherry on top for me! Victor is too damn good. He made me look like a total gentleman. Came in looking shaggy with a messy hairdo after growing it out a few months and I could not be happier with how it turned out. Seriously perfect haircut all around. Victor listened to everything I wanted to do and how I wanted and even suggested thinning out a the back of my head before I even mentioned it since my hair always gets bushy back there. The hot towel and face massage was a great touch. Not only are these guys fantastic barbers, the place has incredible music playing the entire time. Absolutely love this place. My son's cut always looks great. I pay more than I have at other places but it's worth it because it's a consistent quality cut every time. My son is 5 and Jonathan always takes his time and is attentive to every detail. The cut usually takes an hour. They have a great vibe going. The barbers are all really attentive and professional. I am conscientious that adults are coming in here to get a cut in a relaxed atmosphere so I would not bring my child if I knew he was going to be disruptive and could not sit still for the cut. I don't hand out five stars much, but sometimes they are deserved. Dapper Barbershop is a five-star establishment hands-down. I heard about Dapper while searching for a new barbershop, and their Yelp and Instagram was helpful. All the barbers have high remarks in terms of how good they are. So I didn't know who to book with. I just went with the first person with availablilty. I booked with Nathan, and it was great because he has the first-hand experience dealing with thinning hair. He said he had the same issue before, and it looks like he's got his hair back now. I didn't really get all in his business because it was my first time there. I like how the place looks. The guys are personable, they greet everyone, not just the people they have booked. I don't think these guys are related, but they seem like brothers more than co-workers which is pretty cool. Customer service is on point, but good god Savanna! Skip me with the collection plate and let the church say Amen! Looking at the service list, things can get expensive quick. I moved to the Chicagoland area last September from California and needed to find a new place for a cut. Luckily, Dapper Barbershop was just across the street from my new apartment AND it had good reviews on Yelp. If you know me, you know that I'm extremely picky about my haircuts and spent a good amount of time in California finding the barber I settled on. But Jonathan, the owner of Dapper, made my transition to a new barber as smooth as could be. Not only does he have a great attention to detail on his cuts, he also strives for excellent customer service, providing all his clients with good conversation, a facial massage, and hot towel treatment. I definitely was not used to that level of pampering, especially at the price point of this place! In California, I was paying a similar price for a 1/2 hour cut only. Over the last 8 months, I have gone to Jonathan and Jonathan alone for my approximately bi-weekly cuts. In this time, I have really developed a relationship with him and that's definitely part of the priceless experience here at Dapper. Even Victor, the other primary barber here makes sure to greet me every time I go in. Though I've moved back to California for the time being, I know that if I'm ever in Chicago again, I will definitely be stopping in even if its just to say hello. read more

Outrageous prices. I was a big fan of this place. The barbers are professional and fun. The owner is a class act and I thoroughly enjoyed getting my hair cut here even though the prices were much higher than I had paid at any similar establishment. Starting in 2020 the price for my haircut went up to an even higher price, as they raised prices by around $20. It was no longer at the top end of my price range. It was now way above. The service here is amazing, and if you can rationalize spending $65+ tip for a basic men's haircut and hot towel, then by all means go to Dapper. The price is just way too high for me. Bummer. I really like Dapper Barbershop and Shave. When I went there months ago, the barber offered me a shave at no charge. I said no--that was idiotic. The idea of getting a shave stuck around, so when I finally tired of all the hair I had been accumulating for all those months, I decided to go back there for haircut and shave. It was wonderful. And a bit of a learning experience. I didn't know about express (2 towels) versus luxury shaves (4 towels) or how the towel would be wrapped about my face. Or that my master barber, Oscar Estilos, would use an electric shaver to cut my 10-day stubble down to straight-razor level. Or that their after shave wouldn't be more fragrant than I wanted. Or that my hair, which had been a long mess, would like as nice as it did and does. The background music was pleasant. As soon as I opened the door barbers graciously met me and ushered me inside. As I was leaving Oscar brought me my walker, which I need for long distance walks like this one (about 5 blocks), and other belongings, and just as graciously ushered me out of the shop. Prior to coming here, I had been going to the same salon for almost 15 years, but I randomly met the owner one day at my place of business and decided I would check it out. Reluctantly, I called to get some more info and book an appointment. Everything about the experience exceeded my expectations. I was greeted as soon I walked in and offered something to drink. The music playing was at the perfect volume and the shop was well designed and made me feel like I was in an old school barbershop. Victor cut my hair and shave. I've gone to a handful of other barbershops in the Chicagoland area looking for the ultimate shave, and have been far from impressed. Dapper Barbershop & Shave Parlor just 'get' it. The barbershop is right next to interstate 290 in Oak Park on a frontage road. Parking can be found relatively easily. The shop itself is clean, contemporary and offers a laid back and friendly urban vibe. The staff is exceptionally nice and welcoming. I called around noon on a Saturday to inquire about availability, and was immediately booked for an afternoon appointment. Upon arrival I was greeted by Bruno, who was ready for me. This mans skills as a barber are absolutely incredible!! I decided to grow my beard out a few weeks ago and haven't touched my facial hair at all in that time frame. I wanted to clean it up while keeping with its full growth potential. Not only did Bruno work magic on my face, but between the different exfoliating masks, microdermabrasion brush, and numerous other (great smelling) oils and creams, by the end of the shave my face felt like it had just received a complete spa day. I got a haircut from here with Pedro. I was pretty pleased with the quality of the haircut. The place was clean, and parking was pretty easy around the corner. I think the price was pretty unseasonable. Especially for the location and the setting. $35 for a men's haircut in my opinion is pretty steep. Also, I didn't like the fact I wasn't facing the mirror at any point during the haircut. I would like to see what's going on during my haircut. Overall, I had a great haircut from Victor, did exactly what I asked for. The guys in the shop are really friendly and nice. My issue is that there was no posted price list and that when I went to pay for a very basic haircut (no shave, no massage, nothing fancy), they said it was $35. Pretty expensive for a generic men's haircut, but I guess I should have asked. Now, when I read the other reviews for the shop, I saw a reviewer paid $25 for what appeared to be the exact same services. What's the difference? I probably wouldn't go back unless some of the business aspects were improved a bit. It was also unclear as to whether this was a walk-in barbershop or a fancier salon-type-you-need-an-appointment. It felt much more like a private club than a neighborhood barber shop. If you like that atmosphere (club), this is a pretty cool place. Called for an appointment at 5:30 on a Saturday and was confirmed for a 6pm haircut. As soon as I walked in the shop- I was welcomed to a chair and my haircut began. I was expecting to wait the standard 20-30 minutes past my appointment time. The shop was extremely clean and professional at every point of my experience. Someone even offered me a beverage during the middle of my shave. Victor gave me an amazing shave and line up. Probably one of the best shaves that I've ever had since I moved to Chicago. We love this place! My son has been here several times, Jonathan the owner has always taken good care of him - never had a bad cut and always great service. My son let his hair go too long, almost all summer w/out a haircut and we were desperate to get him in asap. I called over the weekend and they were booked till Tuesday! I can't begin to explain how amazing this place is! I stopped by Dapper only because it had good reviews, but literally had no idea of what to expect beyond that. You walk in, and the place looks beautiful. The team there is incredibly welcoming and super friendly! The guy that I worked with was Jonathon, and he did a killer job on my beard! Cleaned up my neck line, my dumb unibrow!.....and made me look like a damn rockstar! What's most cool about this place however, is you can tell that the guys that work there really care about it and are passionate about their business. This place is great! I know a lot of people on here are like, "Yeah, but it's kind of expensive." I don't think it is for what you get. But I get it. If you don't have the money to spend on that, cool. But if you do, or that one time a year when you do, this is the place. It's pretty clear from the second you walk in, that these guys are ready to earn every dollar. They stop what they're doing and say Hi the minute you walk in, they spend time asking good questions once you're in the chair, and once they get started they don't fool around. It's hard to describe; there's definitely a young, fresh vibe in there, but it's not even a little hipster, or aloof. Like I said, they want to earn your money. Sometimes it can be hard to explain to a barber what you want, especially if your hair doesn't always *do* what you want. Not here. Nathan was very patient, asked a lot of questions, and even made some good suggestions. That's a good talent in a barber, especially if you're going in to a new place. Started looking for babershops near me although I knew about most of them. I found Chicago's top 5 and almost drove to Glen Ellyn to one that I found and seemed to be a good fit. I'm glad I didn't, I came across Dapper's Yelp page and was impressed by the reviews so I decided to give it a try. This is a quality establishment, Victor is precise and a master of his craft.
