This is my new Go to nail salon. It's a minority woman owned buisness. We don't have enough of those. That's a major plus factor for me. I'm neurodivgent. Finding places I feel comfortable going are problematic. Glitter not only has a fabulous name it offers fabulous services in a comfortable atmosphere. Ok so they don't have massage chairs. But those spread fungus so I get it.( I still don't have to like it)They do offer a great neck massager that is just as good as the chair. The place is chill. The music was soft R&B and I could easily hear and talk over it. I didn't stress the too loud, or to soft,which usually happens. When the music was changed to NPR performances I was in heaven. The Deluxe pedicure was perfection,and my manicure amazing. The coolest thing about this place though, is the school. The salon also has a nail school in the back. If students excel and finish, they get jobs in the salon. So they offer immediate job placements. We need so much more of THIS! I'm so happy to have discovered this little gem in our community. I've been here a few times and even recommended people to come here. After I made a specific request for the owner to do my nails (a few diff times to make sure I was right before making this review) I was snubbed (n a nice way) and told by her that she a "celebrity nail tech." So does that mean you think I can't pay for your service? Mind you this same lady had done my nails before with no problem and with no mention of being a "celebrity nail tech". Yes I tipped her!No I wasn't rude or anything to her. I always tip and don't mind paying for a persons work. This is what makes it hard to support your people. I made my appointment this morning because I was up and saw that I could. I was afraid I would be canceled because that's happened to me elsewhere. I despise being late, so I arrived early. Five minutes to my appointment time, the manager asks me to give them five minutes due to them having a staff meeting. Five minutes turned into fifteen-twenty but I was offered a discount for being patient. Seante was my tech and she made up for the annoyance of not being on time. I was offered wine or a mimosa, I declined. My nails are gorgeous. I love the shape, the color and artwork. Price is on par for the atmosphere. Ambient music wasn't loud and overpowering. My first and last time here. First of all I live in the Gold Coast area so this was a trip and I wanted to support a black business. Another reminder that quality should be a prioritizing factor when I spend my very hard earned money. The nail tech was ok and nice. BUT she needs to work on her skills. They have students doing your nails. SECONDLY I booked online for a service that was quoted as $40. When the tech got done she quoted me $45 THEN an additional $16 to 'reshape' my nails when she barely filed the sides into a 'coffin shape' from my already square nails. Then the quality of the polish was cheap at best. I have a regular salon down the street from my home. For what I paid them I could have just went to my own nail tech and got way more quality service. Then I have bubbles in my polish which I absolutely hate. I like a smooth finish. Never again. I scheduled an appointment for 10am. I received a call from the receptionist around 9 to confirm my appointment. Closer to 10 I got a text that my appointment was canceled but I was already there. They were able to find someone to do my manicure but the tech rushed through the service. She filled my nails off instead of soaking them, offered me a drink 30 minutes into the service. Once the service was over I had to wait at the front desk for someone to check me out as the nail tech disappeared in the back. I enjoyed the deluxe manicure and pedicure service, including the relaxing music and the massage chair. However, I feel the place is overrated. People seem more excited about the drinks and the fact that it's "black owned." What I love about getting a pedicure, especially for $85, is the massage chair. They don't have one; instead, they have a big, hard sofa, and there's no jet in the pedicure bowl. I was overcharged, but I only got a refund for the difference because I caught it. The technicians I had seemed like students who weren't very confident in their work. I was visiting for the first time and wanted to experience the hype, but I won't be going back. We didn't have a regular salon, so we found Glitter Nails online and said let's try it. Best choice we could have made! My manicurist Mariah was quite the perfectionist, my nails are perfect, the entire staff had an amazing welcoming energy that I so appreciate, they were pleasant, friendly & we're happy employees. The establishment was great, but the customer service sucked. It took over five hours just to give my my feet done and then after that, I went home a day later my whole toenail came off. I received a flyer for a Mother's Day, special $15 mani, $15 pedi no chip. I called and specifically reference the flyer and said that I would like the Mother's Day special, I was booked by the person who answered the phone for a day, and time that worked well for me,within the promotions valid date. The person who took this booking completely failed to mention that there was any distinction between the students of the Academy and graduates working at the salon. She booked me on a day that the Academy, who is offering the promotional pricing was not open. The technician was really nice and interesting, but it took two hours and 40 minutes to complete a Mani/pedi which has never happened to me before in my life and I had to cancel a meeting an hour and a half in which was embarrassing. I was charged $122, I was so shocked that I just paid the amount, came home and told my husband what it happened who said I should call back and speak to a manager because that's a lot more than $30. The manager basically explained that the flyer makes clear that they have two separate locations, see the address is listed as two consecutive address numbers, which is common in retail settings for one business. She said that while I had made clear the promotion I wanted when I called and made the appointment, it was my obligation to bring the flyer and clarify that with the staff before services. I have attached the flyer, which really does not make any of this clear and I've never really known it to be my obligation to double check that I am receiving the service that I initially booked. I think this is just a deceptive practice, and that the business should be more clear and transparent about their pricing. I'm also not sure why this manager thinks that it's appropriate to basically imply that I am somehow stupid for not having known that booking a specific promotional service obligates me to double check, every step of the way that I am receiving the correct service, it really feels like that is their obligation as a business to be clear and to book me for the service that I wanted. Beyond that, my foot was over filed and today I have rug burn on the side which is making it really uncomfortable to walk. The space between my big and second toe is also red and super itchy, which was not the case prior to this service. Wanted to try this establishment. The no-chip manicure job turned out good. My only issue is the tech rushed the job and was a bit rough grooming my cuticles, (It actually hurt a bit). When I called, the receptionist said if I arrived within 10 minutes I could be serviced. If I had known the job would be rushed, I would have opted for another day. The nail tech was nice and polite, the establishment clean, but I agree with another customer's review. For a nail tech school, the services are priced too high. Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff, they were all very pleasant, friendly & inviting, we were offered water and/or wine (that was a plus)! I was introduced to the nail technician that would be doing my service, she instructed me to select a color. After I drank my first glass of wine(don't judge me, I was thirsty) I was offered a 2nd glass I liked that. My nail tech was very friendly & discussed an array of topics while I was being serviced. The reason for my 3-star rating was my disappointment in my polish I showed the technician a picture & she told me she could execute the design. She told me they were known for their nail art & design,(I was excited). Only to be quickly, disappointed by the finish look! My No chip was a dull red! There was no shine to my nails, I asked for Black foil design, my nail tech did not check before she started to polish my nails to see if they had any black foil, when it was time to add the foil, she asked a peer to look for the foil for her‍ they were all out of the Black foil. I was disappointed because I could not get the look I wanted. The nail tech apologized and tried to make it better with another color foil, it wasn't a success either. I ended up getting the no chip without the foil look & the end look was not as clean & shiny, my nails didn't have a finished look. However, My friend was very pleased-the owner of the salon completed her service. They have a few technicians to choose from. I would say try them out, it's a nice salon with a very friendly staff. I'm happy my BFF was happy, I found this salon & decided to accompany my friend so she could find a steady nail tech close to home that would give her what the salon experience & nail art she wanted. It was an expensive experience for me, I was not satisfied with the finished look of my nails. Here is the price breakdown: My service: No chip on my Natural Nails-$35 Deluxe pedicure with regular polish-$50 Basic design-$10(I was refunded $5 because I didn't get the foil on my nails). Ok first and foremost I want to say this place has SOOOO much potential to be GREAT in every area of the word nail business, but there are definitely some adjustments they need to make in order to get there and the one at the top of the list I am sure that will not come as a surprise to you and that's Customer Service and overall Professionalism from the management and operations staff. I am not sure why we (as in African American) businesses lack in these areas a lot. I swear the product and delivery be so dope, but the customer service and attitudes you get in return be such a turn off that it eventually start to out weigh the product and delivery because a person is only going to deal with it for as long as they can until they will say you know what "This isn't worth the frustration and mental exhaustion" and move on because what businesses need to realize is that there is ALWAYS someone who will come along where they see you lacking and start to do what you do and sometimes even end up doing it better, it's like they take advantage of your weak areas and they build on that. This is basically "Business 101", and what they call the "Takeover Method" and which is pretty much what the Asian nail shops did in the 90's and still doing today, so businesses need to stay humble, respectful of all their customers at all times and run their business in the most professional friendly way as possible, because the business world is never a guarantee for forever success. You can be here today and gone tomorrow because of that negative energy that's put out there. I've seen it happen all too many times. It's the work industry I am in. But I do wish this business longevity and much success because with all due respect the ladies are very talented and deserve to be in an environment where they are motivated to succeed. This now bring me to my nail review. My nail tech who was Jay was beyond sweet and is VERY talented. Probably one of the best nail technicians I've had in my life, no lie. Her style and technique blow the Asian nail shops out the water. Don't think I will be going back to them if I can help it. The talent is something that's just God given in these ladies I swear. You can train and you can practice, but when God bless you with a talent, you just have it without much effort and this is what I witness here. I am a very basic person when it comes to my nails. I keep them short, and polished. No funky designs at all. I work in a very conservative industry, but I decided to do a couple fun nails for the holiday and I really like them. It adds some spizazz, but not too much that it would be a distraction. This is the area bar none where they exceed. Some of the nail designs and styles Jay and the other ladies create are jaw dropping and unbelievably amazing to say the least. The prices for these designs can most definitely get on the pricey side. For my two nail designs, which were pretty basic in my eyes it was $5 per nail, so I can only imagine what the prices are for 3D nails, ombre nails or the really blingy ones but the time and detail that's put into each nail I am sure is the reason why the prices are at what they are. I had a no -chip done and the price is pretty standard and comparable to the other salons, with a price tag of $35 and so far so good. No chipping or lifting and I am already over a week in. I am hoping I can get at least 2-3 weeks out of this nail job which is normally how long my nails tend to last with the no-chip. I am already thinking in my head and looking at pictures of what fun nails I want for Christmas and New Year's, which tell you I plan to return. I just hope I can stay. read more

Having recently moved to Oak Park, I set out to find a new nail salon. I found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I called in and scheduled an appointment for a full set and a pedicure. The lady on the phone was very nice and told me to be there by 5:00pm so I could get both things done. I arrived at 4:55pm and was greeted by, who I'm assuming, was the person who helped me on the phone. I was also greeted by the eye rolling of the person who was going to do my nails. She never introduced herself and was quiet (and seemed mad?) while she started doing my nails. I was ok with it as not everyone is super talkative, I get it. We started with my full set. I endured her pushing my cuticles back with the scratchy end of the filing machine (ouch) and even drilling into my cuticle (double ouch!) without even a "sorry" coming out of her. At least she reacted quickly and applied drops of some blue liquid to stop the bleeding. My pinky finger blew up to the size of a small sausage and still, nothing. About half an hour later there was a bit of conversation and once she finished with my hands, she went on to do my pedicure. The pedicure was pretty good (which is why I'm not giving this place 1 star). While I was getting my pedicure done, a gentleman I'm assuming is the owner or the husband of the owner, offered me wine or water, which was necessary as I felt my fingers burning and pulsating after almost getting filed off! The wine helped a little! The other people working there were funny and entertaining but still having a swollen and painful pinky, three days later, isn't fun. The owner did reach out to me a couple of times to get me to change my review. I came from out of town and was really excited about having Tisa do my nails. I was in town for a short while before I had to fly to California to be the maid of honor in a wedding. I had confirmed my appointment and I assumed I had no worries. The day of my appointment they called me two hours before and attempted to switch my nail tech which I thought was very unprofessional considering the fact I had no idea who the techs were and their quality of work. Sooo frustrated with my last visit to this nail salon. It was my first time back in a few months and I was excited to get a full set for my vacation. I got a gel full set that cost me $80.. $65 for the the set and an extra $10 for rhinestones plus tip. Which is pretty pricey for me but whatever I don't mind supporting black business but for this price range I expect QUALITY. MY NAIL BROKE THE SAME DAY I GOT IT DONE. The rhinestones started falling off the same day as well and my white tips are turning brown all within a day of getting them done. Oh not to mention the gel set is very thin so the other nails are brittle. The experience was great the ladies are nice and fun to talk to which is why I gave 2 stars but the quality does not match the price. As another reviewer stated, I had to wait until my second visit to write a full review to account for my experience at Glitter Nail Salon. I sat with Megan at the shop and I want to speak on her character for a moment. She was very sweet and personable throughout my appointment and I appreciate that. This is not a review to comment on her personality because it was a nice experience in her presence. This review is, as another reviewer stated, about the quality of work in juxtaposition to the price you are paying. I do not feel the nails I got were worth the amount of money I paid for them. Prior to leaving the shop, which I had to do in haste, there were a few issues with buffing and sharpness that Megan corrected as I found them.Working the next day did not allow me time to call or visit the shop during operation hours. In addition, the shop is closed on Sundays and Mondays and I was not able to contact anyone about the issue. It was not until the next day that I was fully able to see how my acrylic was laid and how my natural nails were holding up beneath the acrylic. My natural nails are sticking out the side of the acrylic and they have begun to break off as well (I have never had that experience before). The acrylic laid over my nails is so thick that I have to maneuver differently in a lot of my every day tasks. In addition, the acrylic is bumping and heavy from cuticle to tip. A good environment does not justify poor work especially with prices set at the point they are for the shop. I will not return to the shop again and will not refer anyone here either. I hope that reviews such as this allow for better experiences for customers in the future as reviews like this are not few and far between on Yelp and otherwise. read more

I went the other day for a jelly pedi after I saw videos on ig and was obsessed ever since. I had to try it. It. Was. Fantastic. You put your feet in the water and then they add the magic dust, you swish your feet, and BAM! Jelly bath for your feet. I purposely waited a week to write a review to see how it would hold up and my feet are as soft as the day they left the salon. I got an ombre nail design as well and that's still pristine. I've been to Glitter maybe 3 times over the past 2 years, and have tried so hard to give this black-owned business a chance but I think I'm done. First, I have to applaud the owner for her business savvy. She opened her Nail Academy right next to the salon & also started a program at a high school. (As a h.s teacher myself, that made me so happy to see). However, what she is essentially doing is charging a price equivalent to HER expertise, but in actuality her "recent graduates" are handling majority of her clientele. It seems that a lot of the work that is promoted is either hers or that of a senior technician & every time I've come here, it's a room full of completely new staff. So when I go into Glitter thinking I'm going to be getting quality work, I end up with two nails popping off my left hand with so much ease I barely felt them come off, and 3 nails on my right hand lifting after not even two weeks. I paid $94 for a medium-length full set, shaping, "customs acrylic" & a total of 8 rhinestones. I believe Kimmie did my nails. She was very nice, asked a lot of questions & even helped some of the other nail techs out. But this was the worst full set I've ever received & the most expensive as well. But after my regular nail tech moved, I just stopped getting my nails done until I had an event come up. I used to pay $70 for a full set, designs and a bomb pedicure & my nails never popped off, even after going 4 weeks in between fills. After reading some of the other comments, I know customers are not lying because I've seen it all. Technicians doing their own nails as opposed to actually working, eating during providing a service, walking in and out of the salon while with a client, nasty customer service, being completely ignored upon walking in and the worst was seeing how some of the ladies interact with the male owner of the salon. So much unprofessionalism. I am going to reach out & see if I can get a partial refund or at the very least see if something can be done about my nails, but I'll never spend another dime of my hard-earned money in this establishment. read more
