Ok, let's start with how picky I am about my pedicures. I've gone to the same lady forever and will not hesitate to tell them if the service is sub par or I think they need to up their level of sanitation. On to Bottom nails. First off, the salon was nominated for a Hoodie Award this year. Pretty impressive considering it's a nationwide contest. I couldn't find it at first bc YELP had their OLD address listed (they've moved to Parkland & Chicago ave.) but I called and found them. Walking in I wasn't sure how things would go but I put my name on the list and searched for a color. I wasn't feeling inspired so I let the tech pick my color. She was a cute college grad with lots of personality. She picked out a pretty goldish green which I would have never had the cahonies to try on my own. She did a great job and really tried to make my visit enjoyable. Very personable :) Next the owner did my pedicure. Sadly the infamous Bryan was out for the day. So I'll have to go back and check him out. The pedi room was seperate and intimate with 2 service chairs and a tv. I was the only one getting one so I had the room and tv remote to myself. I won't bore u with the details but I soaked for 15 min and she spent at least 10 minutes a piece buffing each heel. At least! My feet were a little tender when she was done, but it beats the nasty dreaded razor (which she told me is illegal in IL). Overall, I would definitely go back, especially if they weren't too busy. I was there for a couple hours but I felt like it was worth it because they had top of the line nail art, good prices, and they are black owned and operated which is really rare. So, the tech that I complimented decided to write saying she didn't do my nails lol and that the picture that I posted with the caption 'what I wanted' was her work, it is not ma'am. A simple GOOGLE search of Hello Kitty Nail design would prove you didn't do this, don't lie. And she also decided to say money was issue? Ma'am, no one likes their coins played with, and you better believe for the job you did, I could've and should've paid $2.00 for it and would've still been upset. Get it together! I have been going to this same nail salon for 15 years now and I love it . All the girls are talented and they are very skilled at what they do. This is nail art that includes having outrageous , classy, sophisticated, pretty or just plain nails designed. The nail art consists of painting with paint brushes. If the colors you pick are ugly the nail tech will tell you so ! And if it 's flyy then you'll hear that as well .Personally I get a lot of inlay work done , that's glitter inside the acrylic with a UV coating which makes the colors pop like crazy & 3-D nail art as well . They can put anything in your nails or on them , the highest caliber of talent you'll see for nails in a professional salon. Ok, I finally went to Bottom Nail on Christmas Eve LOL. After all the holiday shopping, crazy work schedule, poor economy, growing violence and debt in IL, parking meter and red light camera fees, and so on, I decided to treat myself. Jackie did my nails and I am so pleased with the professional job. My cuticles were HORRIBLE and she took the extra time and steps to make them presentable again. The nail art is truly art. I saw a young lady at Jewel or Walgreens in River Forest about a year ago and her nail art was exquisite, well she told me about Bottom Nail. The art is one of a kind. I will return for a pedicure when I get my fill in. They will be at their new location (right down the street). So ladies, treat yourself and forget about your troubles. Best pedicure and nail art you'll find in the entire city of Chicago & probably the entire state! I've been coming to the Bottom for over 7 years and I've been through 3 nail techs within that time. If you ever want a relief from the corporate world and want to know what's going on in this city, the Bottom is the place to be. They do great work and they will give you the honest truth about things. Their pedicures are THE BEST IN TOWN!!! Brian does the best job! No razors & he is not ashamed to tell you your feet are JACKED. I need that type of honesty these days. He is VERY clean and makes no short cuts in doing the best job. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because sometimes, you may want to be in piece when getting your pedi & nails done and the Bottom is NOT the place to go for tranquility. I must say...after promising myself to get my nails done here for about two years I finally did! This shop is the bomb! The people are friendly (the staff played with my son as he waited for me to get my nails done), Also, Jackee Blue (the owner) is so personable. When I told her that my birthday was the next day she made be a signature cocktail...which I must say was DEELISH! I HAD to check out Brian (as I read about his famous pedicures)! When I tell you that he is EVERYTHING that everyone said that he would be....whoooooo! That man did MIRACLES to my feet...to my toes..and to my heels! Also, he's a crooner ladies so ask him to sing to you while he does your pedicure. Lastly, I must say that when we receive excellent service it is important to TIP people....TIP! My mom and I just went back for pedicures for the first time at their new location. I'm happy to report, as I told Bryan "The legend continues". Maybe it's because he's a strong guy, I don't know, but he is the master of the foot file. The best pedicures I've ever had were at Asha, Sebastian's (in Mexico), and Bryan at The Bottom. The pros: Bryan charges far less, but does nearly as well as Asha's most expensive pedicure. The best bang for your buck. The cons: The ambiance leaves much to be desired. It's not a "relax and be pampered" type setting. It's a nail shop, and not the same as being at the spa. He's not always in shop, so you still have to call to make appointments. But you can't beat his quality of work for that price. read more

I have to say the female and even male that work in this establishment has exceptional skills when it comes to doing nails. The attitude might not match but let's face it we do live in the NORTH.... The young UNPROFESSIONAL lady who did my pedicure was horrible! Very, very unprofessional! First off, I had to wait an hour and a half past my SCHEDULED time! Second, she used JERGONS soap in my tub and not the tradition foot and spa soap with the blue salt etc. This girl was also on the phone facetiming and texting the ENTIRE time. And on top of that, I had to make her do some of my toes over 3 times and add an extra coat, which she wasn't about to do from the get go. She didn't even get the dead skin off of my cuticles, she barely filed and shaped my toe nails, and barely scrubbed my feet. It was like she just didn't even care to be there. I honestly could have saved my money and did my feet myself! I will NEVER in my life go back to that place! NEVER! I would give this place zero stars but unfortunately, we have to give it something. I know a few people who said that there are a few professional nail techs there that do good nails, but she truly ruined it up for me! In order to run a successful business, you have to get rid or push discipline on the rotten apples! I'm very disappointed because I try to support as many black owned businesses as I can, but unfortunately for them, this is a blacked owned business I will NEVER support! The lady that owns this place needs to figure out and INFORCE authority to make sure her workers are doing what they are suppose to do and being of service to their clients. If she wants to run a successful business that is what she would have to do. I wish I would have gotten the young girl's name but she was kind of tall and thicker, had a black bob wig with a bang, and had a piercing on her face. I am a repeat customer here with the nail tech Alicia. She is always polite, took her time and does nails exceptionally well. The people here are friendly and always chatting about with each other. I also like the fact that they have the Tv on something of interest. I would recommend the bottom to anyone looking to have a quality nail set done. read more

I do not know where to begin with this place. They could not be more ghetto if they tried. I was heading to a friend's yesterday and searched for a nail salon in the area of Madison & Central. I was specifically looking for a place that offered the magnet nail design. I called a few placed from my search results and they didn't have the magnets. Then I called Bottom. They had it. I made an apt for 4:15. I went to the address in the search 5459 W Chicago - to find an empty store front. I called and they informed me that they had moved (2 years ago) so I finally made it to the shop...at 4:30. I missed my appointment - the girl who was going to do my nails was working with a new customer. So I was told to REMOVE my own nail polish & wait. I waited over 30 min when someone else said that they would take care of me. This woman could not be less interested. Not a word was said to me - in her defense her girlfriend was there so she was busy talking with her. She did ask me what shape I wanted - I told her my nails are round - and in good condition - so not to change the shape. While chatting with her friend she went to town & before I knew it she had filed down one hands worth of nail to a straight edge - and taken off a lot of length. I stopped her & ask why she was doing that. She explained that I should've told her before she started. Which I did. She remembers what I said - but said she misunderstood - and that she could fix it. So she reshaped the nails back to round - and now they are significantly shorter than the other hand. I was not happy. THEN she started with the magnetic polish. I heard her mention to her friend that she had never done this before; she had only seen it once. She applied the polish & then held the design magnet over it...then after a few seconds she looked at the nail - saw it wasn't long enough & put the magnet over the nail again - this time moving the design... and touching my nail so having to reapply the polish again. The next nail she had the design in a different position again (not just a small move - but a completely different angle). I told her that I didn't like how this was turning out - so she got someone else to finish. Afterwards I went to the ATM, cause they do not take credit (really, this is 2012!!) and I was going to pay this woman when she was too busy getting her eyebrows done. So I dropped the money on her table & left...it was after 6:30. Over 2 hours. For a manicure. Not a fill, not a full set. Just a manicure. I also wanted to mention that it is obvious by first glance that the customers are not the priority in this salon... just look at the chairs. The customer gets the hard basic banquet chair - while the employee has the comfortable cushioned chair. It is not like this in ANY other nail salon I have been to. I had to remove my own polish - there is NO massage. Well there is - this woman had to ask several of the other employees for some scrub, she was out, to put on my hands for ME to rub in & rinse off myself. If you are looking for a pampering treatment for women type of manicure - go elsewhere - Bottom cannot be bothered. read more

So badly wanted to love this place since it's close to my house and from the reviews I've read and from what I've heard from others I know. However, if an establishment is not carrying themselves professionally, I just cannot have the patience for it. I was turned off from the beginning just by giving the place a call. I called just to ask if walk-ins were welcomed just in case before I make the trip and the woman who answered the phone was so monotone and sounded just unfriendly. However, I proceeded anyway (btw, walk-ins are welcome, no appointments). So I walk in for the first time, didn't get greeted, I just stood there awkwardly and said hello to the first tech I saw. She gave a dry "Hello," looking at me like I'm crazy. I was told there was a sign up sheet, so I went on signed in. Now perhaps I should've visited on a week day instead of a Saturday; it was quite crowded and I had about 5 people ahead of me. I think every customer that was being served was getting acrylic nails done, so that also could have contributed to the long wait, but I was sitting in there for over an hour without service. I didn't follow through with my simple mani/pedi that I wanted because I just was turned all the way off and felt like I would never be served. I didn't see how they were gonna follow the sign up sheet because I didn't see any of the nail techs get up and check it after they were done with a client. So yeah, I'm sure the techs are very talented and creative, I believe what I hear, however, when you don't have that professionalism and that good quality customer service, some people are not even going to give your establishment a chance.
