Got thier with my sister-in-law and we both had eye tests and she took our insurance cards for verification (I thought) but in the end she hands our perscriptions to us and says "That will be $120.00" we weren't expecting that.So when we said eye exams are covered completely with our insurance ,we said we don't have the money on us. She snatched them out of are hand. But my sister- in-law paid for hers. The really good news came when she went to take her perscription some place to get it filled,it wasn't VALID she couldn't use it. I went to a local eyewear place to have 1 lense swapped out for a stronger presecription. Quote at a very well know store in keene? $188.00. Not for glasses; not for 2 lenses. 1 lense. that is all I needed. Called Darien: w/anti-glare lense: $80.00! I have 9 more pairs of glasses to have done. We went to Darien Eyewear because it is a small local business. We will never go again! The lady who "helped" us was extremely rude. She seemed very bothered we interrupted her tv watching. Quoted us $100 for the Rx and pointed at the glasses and told us to "pick some out". After we paid she said they would be ready in a week or week and half. No phone call received on the week and half date so I called and spoke with a man who said the "truck should be here in a hour, I'll give you a call back". I never heard from him. My husband followed up the next day and informed me the man he spoke with was rude when mentioned the previous poor customer service and that we still were waiting to hear from them. The man told my husband "they will be done in 20 mins". We still never got a phone call. I showed up that afternoon to pick up the glasses, only to be met with more poor customer service. NEVER will I EVER recommend this place!!!! read more

I just called them on the phone to inquire what types of frames they carry and to get general information (i'm not a current customer of theirs) and the woman who answered the phone said "Can you call back in 10 minutes? i have purchased glasses from darien's twice. the first time the glasses were decent, affordable, however although they said one week, i ended up waiting almost a month to get them. they didn't offer any sort of discount, or even an apology for my inconveince. it was excuse after excuse, day, after day, after day. so, bad taste in my mouth but at least i saved $$$ in the end, right? a couple years later (last month) i went back in, needing another affordable pair of glasses. i picked them out, ordered them, and paid in full. was promised a week turn over. 8 days passed, no call. so i call, and am told shipment hasn't arrived. to try back tomorrow. the next day i get the same story. this goes on, with absolutely NO apology or explaination. Just, "we havn't received the shipment but we should by tomorrow". finally after 2 1/2 weeks of calling daily i go in and pick them up. she hands me the glasses and the first thing i notice is a scratch on the colored frames!!!! (not huge but very obvious upon a very quick inspection,) we both see it at the same time, and she grabs the glasses and says she'll give them a clean. she polishes them with a rag then hands them back to me with the unscratched side up.... (maybe she was thinking i hadn't yet seen the scratch or wouldn't notice!??) at this point i took them, said thank you, and left. after all, the biggest insult to a business is that you don't return again, right? i will not go back. 2 strikes is it for me, read more
