I could really use some good luck today. First, they requested a referral from my PCP without even asking me. I have vision insurance, and I specifically told them I wanted that used. Instead, they billed my health insurance anyway. Second, they dilated my eyes again, even though they had done it just a few months earlier. It didn't seem necessary, and it felt like another way to bill my health insurance instead of my vision plan. Then, when it came time to fit my progressive lenses, the machine they normally use wasn't working. Instead of taking proper measurements, the employee just estimated everything by sight. I usually wait about four weeks for my glasses, but these came in after only one week, which immediately made me wonder if something was wrong. As soon as I put them on, I knew they weren't right. I tried wearing them for two days, hoping my eyes just needed time to adjust, but they don't. My vision is cloudy, and the glare and reflections are so bad you can barely see my eyes through the lenses. I have an appointment today so they can "see what they can do." I'm really stressed and hoping they make this right. Wish me luck! read more

They are refusing me an exam because of something from years ago from a previous eye office. I saw Dr. White last year for an exam and apparently sent me a referral to a specialist but didn't tell me I needed to go in order to be seen again for my annual exam. My insurance won't cover the specialist and I just need to order new contacts. It sounds like with all these other reviews she gets kick backs from sending people to specialists they don't need. Business will lose a lot of patients from this. If I decide not to go to specialist because I have never had any issues it is MY decision. All I need is an eye exam. I was denied service because they felt I had a higher probability of having an eye condition based on results from my previous Optometrist (4 years ago). They said they don't have time and were only accepting patients on a 'limited basis', but my guess is they don't make as much money or perhaps they are not confident in treating all eye conditions. Cherry picking patients based on condition is unethical, I was very disappointed with Vision Center and would not recommend this business. read more

Went to Vision Center on November 27 after a bad experience across the street trying to get new lenses for an existing prescription. They were a little busy. Although the entrance, signage and service desk are awkwardly placed, they couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. Monica, in particular, was terrific. She took the usual measurements, and then some more with which I was not familiar. She got the whole thing done and I was on my way in about 20 minutes. At the end she mentioned that the price included a 20% discount on the lenses. No hassle, no problem. I'd send anyone there in a heartbeat. read more

I have been going to Keene Vision Center for years and am thrilled with the quality of medical care and customer service. I am always greeted politely, seen promptly, and treated respectfully. At my recent visit, I saw Bobby and Dr. White for my appointment, both of whom were very friendly and professional. Afterward, Julia and Monica helped me pick new frames and lenses for my new eyeglasses. I had plenty of questions and they answered everything clearly and thoroughly. Ordered prescription safety glasses with my prescription glasses and when my regular glasses came in,I picked them up. I was notified at that time my safety glasses were also in.I left.I waited for the call from them,that my safety glasses were in.After 3 months I inquired.They said...In our system you picked up both sets.I did not.They said there is nothing they can do because their technicians put in the system I had received both pairs. Now I dont have my glasses,they charged my insurance, and I have to wait 2 yrs before I am eligible thru insurance for new ones.Horrible managers and technicians. read more

Yesterday, I called and I needed a script because the swelling in my eyes and this growth around my eyelid was impairing my vision. I have a history of tumors that have threatened my vision. It was an emergency and your doctor refused to help when literally every other eye doctor I've seen has made it a point to come into the office and make sure their patient isn't going blind, or at least call in medication to prevent further damage to my eye. It didn't matter that our kids go to school together. It didn't matter that I bought her son cupcakes at the Halloween party. All that mattered was that she had the day off and I had a medical emergency. Go to the ER they said. They want me to pay 1,000 and wait 6 hours while my eye gets progressively worse? I'm an artist and without my vision or my hands I have no living. No other optometrist has ever refused to call in medication that I need for my eyes in my 25 years of needing vision correction. I'm absolutely appalled at the complete lack of concern and care for patients. I called the receptionist twice and she said she'd call the doctor and so the doctor knew there was an emergency and it simply didn't matter to her that her patient was having an emergency that could permanently threaten their vision. Do not recommend. They do not take checks and they aren't concerned with their patients welfare. Other optometrists in Keene and elsewhere have come into the office or called in a script to ensure I will live to see another day. Isn't there the Hippocratic oath? Went to Vision Ctr. 5/16/20 to order glasses. Told it would be 10 days, after 14 days was told they came in wrong, waited another 14 days and was told they came in wrong again. At this point I had enough. Went to Lens Crafter in Manchester, NH got the same Coach frames, same lenses and paid $79.20 less. When it came to picking out my glasses there was a very warm smiling staff member named Monica. She was so helpful all the way and could tell just what you were looking for! After finding what I needed, you almost felt like you knew each other for a while! Monica, Thank you for making my experience a great one! It's not easy to really understand glasses if your vision is off quite a bit, especially related to dual vision (progressive) glasses. I buy my single vision glasses (reading/computer/driving) from China but I have found that to get really excellent progressive glasses--Dr Dexters is superb. Yes, $300 is expensive, more so than the $89 Chinese glasses but Dr. Dexter glasses work superbly and I have never found that the Chinese made progressives work well, so Dr. Dexter's gets my progressive glasses business. The optometrist is excellent. Their service is excellent. A negative, though I will not remove a star: Any patient MUST, by LAW be provided, upon asking, a written copy of their prescription! I have run into grief with this. Hopefully, you will not. If so, or if you are going to be charged $10 for your pupillary distance then quote the following and you will not be charged: Federal Trade Commission: Sec. 456.2 Separation of examination and dispensing. It is an unfair act or practice for an ophthalmologist or optometrist to: (c) Charge the patient any fee in addition to the ophthalmologist's or optometrist's examination fee as a condition to releasing the prescription to the patient. read more

I wanted an appt quick and was pleasantly surprised when asked if I could make it in to the office in the amount of time I had told the receptionist it would take me to get there. Covid safety measures in place throughout,the person who greeted me brought me straight to an exam room,did a preliminary exam then took me to see the optometrist. She was friendly,professional and answered all my questions with a smile. I really felt like my concerns mattered and confident in the care I was receiving. While I was waiting for my eyes to dilate I was shown the frame selection wall by Monica who explained what frames were covered by my insurance and what percent insurance would cover for the others. Shortly after that it was back to the optometrist for the dilated exam to confirm the initial findings. The whole process was relatively quick and easy. I then returned to the frame wall with Monica had a quick look at other options she had picked out while I was back with the doctor and made my selection. The last part of the process was deciding on options for my glasses and I was walked through what each option was and what it would mean for me with my prescription and insurance coverage. Bonus points for the technician who answered my questions regarding VR and my glasses use. All in all I had a great experience and would recommend them in a heartbeat read more

"Fish line" filament that held them in place was broken when I stepped on them) She came back with my glasses and a big smile again, and said "try them on now" - they were perfect. Got slammed with other tests that were not part of a normal eye exam. Eye exam totaled out to about $350. by the time I was done without glasses. They wanted a follow up appointment to make more $$. They said insurance was rejected for the extra tests I thought were part of the eye exam. The place is all about getting that last buck. Will not go back. read more

Customer service at the outset was very good. I happened to go on a busy Saturday and, while the delightful person who helped me was multitasking with other customers, I never felt rushed or ignored. I was in from out of town, and was told that Dexter's would ship my glasses and shades for a mere $10. I was very happy with that arrangement. About a week later I received a call from their technician letting me know that my shades came in not-as-ordered and that there would be a delay of over a week. I let the technician know that I wouldn't be upset as long as I could get a discount for pain and suffering. He said he would look into it. A day or two later I got a voice mail and a couple of text messages letting me know that my glasses were ready, and could I please pick them up. I immediately called to make sure they were still planning to ship my glasses. They said they were. When I asked the person to verify my mailing address, she recited a totally incorrect address. Since I'm a firm believer that lots of little mistakes can entail a much larger one, I asked to speak with a manager (Jon) to voice my concerns over this handful of mistakes. He patiently listened to my hysterical yammering, them told me he would make sure everything went smoothly from then on. Jon handled everything personally, I got my very generous discount, and so far I'm super happy. I love my glasses, which were speedily and safely shipped, and now I await the shades. After 2 weeks of waiting for the horrible service at Dr. Dexter's in Keene, Dustin's glasses finally came in today... they look bad and don't fit his face at all. We aren't happy. 2 weeks of waiting for no reason. Headed to return them Monday- and tell them we aren't waiting another 2 weeks just to get the glasses literally, snobbily, thrown at us. Grrr.... We ordered them on Aug 26th, and didn't get them until today Sept 13th! They told me 7-10 business days....and they didn't even call to tell me that one pair apparently came in but they were broke- so they had to wait for another pair that was replaced- but not even a courtesy phone call? When I was in high school, every year I went to dr dexters for yearly contact exams and ONE year I got glasses. My insurance covers those exams and $100 of contacts/glasses each year but we kept getting charged. Once my mom realized what was happening she tried to get some discourse between our insurance but instead got hit with a bill. 10 years later I have a huge collection bill from when I was minor, which is probably residual from taking advantage of someone who was uninformed about insurance benefits. so now I travel an hour out of town and have for ten years and will keep doing so because this place is shady. read more

I have been a client of Dexter's Vision Center for over 20 years. Today I went in to have a screw on my eyeglasses tightened and to see if I could get a new eyeglass case, as my case was broken. The women waiting on me fixed my glasses. After, I asked her about a new eyeglass case. Being a longtime client and having received cases free in the past, I was shocked at her response. She said for me to get a new eyeglass case would cost me $3.00. Considering when I bought my glasses there and got the case, I know that part of the cost went to my eyeglass case. Considering I paid for it when I got my glasses and the case did not stand up to normal use, I would think for at least a long time client, the case would be replaced free of charge. The people at Dexter's Vision Center are pleasant, but we had nothing but problems: they are an approved eye doctor for our vision insurance (VSP) but because of very early stage cataracts (no treatment needed) they filed part of the eye checkup as a medical visit. They told us the cost would be the same as filing it under the vision insurance, but instead our portion of the charge was $103.80 instead of $20!! They were pleasant about everything, but misleading and expensive. We found a different eye doctor who is in the VSP program and will do the entire checkup under the VSP plan. read more
