    Enjoying an American Pilsner
    Donovan H.

Ever since moving to the Citrus Heights area back in 2016 (after living in Sacramento for many years), I've come to appreciate my neighbors and surrounding areas. However, this city in general has always lacked a brewery/taphouse is everything is in surrounding areas such as Rancho Cordova and Folsom. This brings us to "DarkHeart Brewing". Their original location which was at Auburn Blvd and near the I-80 interchange opened in mid-2019 and unfortunately had to close (due to rising rent costs) in early-2024. Jump forward to late-2024 and the Citrus Heights location finally opened its doors for business. This location is directly at the corner of Auburn Blvd/Old Auburn Rd where a Goodwill store once stood for many years. The exterior parking lot is shared with another very popular small business, "Ciro's Pizza Cafe". I arrived here during the evening of Friday 1/31/2025 at around 6:30pm. Parking can fill up fast; however there is more parking towards the Auburn Blvd side just in case you can't find a spot. Upon entering the establishment, I was blown away with how cozy this place was. Their trademark is that of a pirate ship complete with warships, buccaneers, skull & bones, hooks, and treasures. The attention to detail was well executed and laid out. What I particularly liked is that this location is arguably a lot smaller but that provides a more cozy and intimate experience. They offer large tables for bigger parties, a TV for viewing games, and an area where you can purchase their merchandise. Best of all, you can order your pizza next door (at Ciro's) and enjoy it with your beer which is a winning combination. Since it was my first time here, I went with a simple pilsner which is their "American Pilsner" (5.7% ABV) priced at a very reasonable $7 for a pint. Many of the beer names are inspired by pirate names/ships. They offer a fairly decent selection of pilsners, stouts, IPA's, and fruit choices for every palette. During the time I stayed, I felt right at home enjoying my beer. I also wanted to add that in the coming months, they plan on opening their outdoor patio. Additionally, they offer trivia night every Thursday. And the hours of operation are still in its early stages being open Wed-Fri 4-9pm, Sat 2-9pm, Sun 12-5pm, and closed Mon/Tue. With the close proximity to my home, excellent beer selection, great interior space, and above average service, I am giving "DarkHeart Brewing" a unanimous five stars.

Came in yesterday with my husband for there event they had for local artists it was a fun event and I love there seltzers how you can make them and customize them to make them your own. My husband loves all there different beers. The service is always great Holly is amazing and so sweet and so are the owners. The brewery is Always clean and so are there bathrooms. The brewery and even the bathrooms are so nice. And you can even have food delivered to the brewery as well. We will continue to come here and support them and tell everyone we know about this place it's always great when we come in.

The beer was fantastic, they have a popcorn machine and it's dog friendly! We'll definitely be back!

Easy to get to. Cute little spot. Feels like the interior is missing a little decor on some shelves. Uncharted Beer was good, captain jack tasted flat. The bartender was very nice and helpful. I wish there were snack items besides the popcorn, however it is nice they offer that for free and it is freshly made. You can order pizza next door and they will bring it over to you. I do also wish they had other options like maybe a few different wines for people who don't care much for beer but are going there to hang out with other beer drinkers.

    There she blows...

Caden greeted us with great hospitality, made sure we were settled in before we golfed, and continued to check on us and help us. I would definitely want to continue coming to Waymaker as long as he is there - our other experiences were not nearly as good without him. Previously, others would not be quick to greet us (we waited nearly 15 minutes once just to get checked in due to the front desk person on their phone at the bar, not even knowing they were a worker). Golf simulator was fun, with plenty of options, such as range, courses, and games. Plenty of selections for drinks as well, including beer, wine, and mixed drinks. We love the sushi and other food options as well. They occasionally have live music and play various sporting events, which helps with them being kid friendly (we bring our 2 year old). Caden was kind, patient and offered a great welcoming vibe.

They closed the taps 20 minutes early because they wanted to leave early even though we were willing to purchase a second drink per person. Kitchen was already closed 30 minutes before closing. There was probably 15-20 people still in the restaurant. Hopefully it isn't a regular practice. *update as I can't respond to question...we were there on 5/21/2026

It's not a loud, chaotic bar and not a nightclub at all. It's one of those places where you can actually relax, get inspired, feel an unreal vibe, hang out with friends or even just sit and do your homework without anything distracting you.‍ The music is perfect -- great background, not overwhelming. The people who work there are super open, friendly, and welcoming. There's a strong feeling of acceptance and warmth. Even though my English isn't perfect, they were so kind and made me feel completely comfortable, which honestly means a lot. They also recommended drinks, and wow -- everything I tried was genuinely delicious. And the coolest part: if you're not sure what you like or can't decide, they'll let you taste different drinks, which is such a nice touch. Another thing I loved is that you can buy really cool jewelry and interesting little things for your home. Everything fits the same aesthetic -- relaxed, artsy, slightly mushroom-core vibe -- and it all just works together so well. Overall, the vibe is unreal. Super cozy, inspiring, and warm. I 100% recommend checking this place out -- it might just become your perfect spot to spend time, chill, and feel good.
