He refused to allow me to file a police report after the executor failed to pay the electricity and the house was broken into. If you are accustomed to being treated professionally and with a minimum level of common courtesy, then definitely look elsewhere. My impression is that they only want your money, and once they get it, they never intend to talk to you again. If you call back with any questions, you will be treated with hostility and derision. Bad customer service, the mom yells at you over the phone hangs up on people very disrespectful. This company claims to be a Christian company yet they do not model Christian values or behavior. The attorney we dealt with was fine and he was very nice but his mother who works there was not, and that was a dealbreaker for us. I don't allow anyone to speak disrespectfully or yell at my wife. We used Darling for two trust one for us another for another family member. We wanted to amend our trust and add one person to receive a small amount from the trust. When went to contact Darling at their office we waited in the lobby. A unknown female then contacted us in the lobby and we told her what we wanted to do. She told us it would cost approximately $1000.00 or more to amend the trust. We were then handed a form and told to fill it out and return it . The form was to provide the information they needed to amend the trust. We were told to return the form when completed and they would make the amendment. We asked her if we would meet with an attorney and were told no. We asked what if we wanted to have our trust reviewed since it was older and some laws had changed. She told us they don't review their trust and she couldn't help us any further and left. The bottom line it's apparent once they write your trust and pay them several thousand dollars they are done with you. And discontinue providing professional and personal service. I then contacted several other attorneys and was told by all of them that had to rewrite trust done by Darling. I was further told they had heard many of Darling's customers had similar complaints as mine. Bottom line Darling Trust is a trust mill and nothing else. read more

From the beginning they refused to talk to us about our situation and what we were needing assistance with. This response came from the female that answered the phone. I guess the handing attorney has her as the guard dog to screen calls. I don't know what she based her decision on. What is our name or voice? But whatever the reason, I feel they are unprofessional. They couldn't even sit with us and have a conversation to discuss anything. I figured this ok. No big deal because there are so many professional attorneys out there to choose from. I wanted a local attorney to keep business in Riverside... but in my opinion, I wouldn't not recommend this place. Hiring a great attorney is important. If they lack communication skills up front... then I'm happy they showed how they truly are. First impressions are important. Zero stars for lack of communication and professionalism. read more

We had our living trust done here about 7 years ago. It was my 2nd living trust so I'd been through it before. The reason I wanted a new one was because everything had changed. I'd gotten married and several other things were different. I took my old trust, which I thought was fine, in to my first appointment. They showed me a sample of what THEIR trust would look like. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. My first trust had been done by a big nationwide company that just did trusts. It wasn't bad. And it was AMAZINGLY BETTER THAN MY MOTHERS FIRST TRUST WHICH WAS DONE BY A GENERAL ATTORNEY WHO DID NOT SPECIALIZE IN TRUSTS. So recognizing how much better my first trust was than my moms, I didn't realize it could be better until Darlings showed me the difference. Night and day WHERE IT COUNTS. This is a BIG INVESTMENT. Be sure you understand the differences. Wherever you go for a trust be sure to ASK to see a sample of a finished product. What you want is the ability to FIND each item you might need. A bunch of 3 hole punched papers between dividers might look clean and professional but it's NOT easy to FIND what you need in that binder. The Binder they gave me was full of plastic sleeves that grouped things together. I bought some sticky things and made further notes for each packet. When you open new accounts you need specific pages for the bank. In the Darling binder you CAN FIND what you need. And they included originals for me to keep as well as some copies I could give away. Very convenient. As for the complaints I see in these reviews...it's always disappointing to discover that you are doing business with someone you aren't really emotionally compatible with. What I'm reading in these reviews sounds like personality conflicts. What I'm reviewing is the finished PRODUCT you are getting...not personalities. I worked with the "Dad" who I guess is Scott. Been a while. He's was very pleasant. Very thorough. Apparently I didn't understand part of how the legal stuff was written and it turned out we had to intentionally "disinherit" some people in our blended family with regards to who was to be the heir to some of our inherited property. So when you go in you must BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR on who is and who is NOT going to inherit what, through your trust. Luckily I got this uneasy feeling and asked some questions and it was determined I completely misunderstood how some things work. The changes were made at no additional charge. I will mention my experience with Benilda. She is extremely professional and that includes EFFICIENT. Efficiency sometimes conflicts with compassion. Perhaps the reviewer needed to work with someone less efficient. If you want something done RIGHT you will love Benilda. But expect her to be ALL BUSINESS...period. I wasn't interested in making friends. I just wanted a great living trust. I was very happy working with Benilda. I'm sure you can get trusts done for less. But when my son got married and they bought a house, I wanted them to get a Trust. They live in LA. After seeing the two other trusts prior to my Darling Trust...I didn't want them to go anywhere else. So I gifted them a living trust IF they would drive to Darling's for the final review. So they went in for the first meeting and did everything else via mail and fax etc. And went in person for the final review. I hope that makes it clear that I'm very happy with their work. I highly recommend that whoever you go to, look at what the FINAL product will be. They may all be equally legal but they are not all equally easy to USE through the years. It's something to consider. And I highly recommend that you go to a specialist because this IS a SPECIALTY. If you are wondering why I'm writing this review now...it's because they asked us to, in the general mailing they send us every year. I like that they stay in touch with me. She seemed like I was bothering her and didn't offer any help with her file. My dad doesn't have one set up and I was inquiring about one for him. I will look elsewhere for him. read more

2013: We went to Darling Law offices to have our trust done. We were very pleased with the work done and the professionalism of the office. Knowing that this business was doing trusts for many years made us feel secure in our choice. 2022: We went back to Darling Law office because since they originally did our trust, and in our paper work it says they do the updates and amendments to the trusts, we naturally went to them. I went in and filled out a form with the changes we wanted and gave them payment for the updates. I made one mistake with a last name but the rest of the changes were accurate. A month later I received a call from the beneficiary of our trust, saying that they got a draft for our trust in the mail at their address. The person who did the changes on the trust, sent the draft to the wrong address and the draft had 24 mistakes on it. They even changed our address in error in the updates. I went into the office to show them the mistakes so it could be redone. I thought the person making the updates must have been new and just didn't take the time to look things over and I also sent the owner of the business a letter regarding the mistakes on the trust so he could know the quality of the work being done. At that time, I did not know It was his wife doing the updates and he sent me a letter back saying he stood by her work. A few days later I received the second draft and there was 3 mistakes and one thing that needed clarifying that I did not understand. I called to have the person who updates the trusts call me back so I could let her know which mistakes to correct and clarify the one section I didn't understand. She did not call me back so I called again. When she still didn't return my calls, I had no other option but to cancel the changes to our trust because there wasn't anyone to answer my questions and show the mistakes to, so I asked for a refund of the money I paid and they returned my payment. 2024: I called around to many trust attorneys to see if they could amend our trust. They did not want to amend work on a trust that another attorney did. They said they wanted to redo a new trust, but the expense of that would be very costly so I thought I would give the Darling Law office one more chance regarding the update to our trust that we needed. We went into the office and the person who took the information for the changes of the trust was very polite and helpful when we came in with the changes. She wasn't the one who does the updates though. Two days later I received a phone call from the owner's wife, who is the one who still does the changes on the trusts, and she told me she refuses to work on our trust and refused to make any changes to our trust because of the problem we had in 2022. I tried to tell her that I know there was problems last time, but I simplified the changes and would like to try and work with her again, but she said she was refusing to do any work for us or any changes to our trust. I asked her If I could have a digital copy of my trust and she told me she is not obligated to give me anything. Then she hung up on me. I feel the professionalism of this office changed. With the mistakes that were done, and the fact that this office refused to do our amendments, it makes us doubt the quality of our original trust. read more

I was referred to Darling Law firm by my dear friend who had her Trust and Will done at Darling. I am very pleased with the final documents and had few, if any questions when I left. In total I had two office visits, plus one trip to drop off documents. I saw some of the dissatisfied reviews and what I know is that each person's situation is different. It does take a lot of effort to prepare the data that Darling needs, but they are efficient and well organized, making it understandable. The rest was up to me! I found their counsel to be sound! I have experienced both the death of relatives who did have and didn't have a Will and Trust. Don't leave your assets to the Government or in question. I highly recommend Darling Law Firm's services. My heirs will have no trouble sorting out what needs to happen, should and WHEN something happens to me. The attorneys and staff at Darling were courteous and didn't waste my time! I really just have to wonder what the negative reviews are about. My parents had their trust done here and all went very smoothly. They were treated with respect and kindness. They recently (a year and a half ago) passed away and I am the successor trustee for them. Scott's six pages of instruction for the successor trustee in the back of the trust are AMAZINGLY comprehensive, detailed and thorough. They lay everything out for the successor trustee duties. A little overwhelming but I appreciated that so much! After this experience, I had my trust done with them also. Getting through this process is sometimes incredibly tough because you are dealing with your own mortality. Can be very tough and emotionally exhausting thinking through all the necessary aspects of putting your desires down on paper. I wonder if the emotional aspect of this can cause such disparity in these reviews? I had nothing but great experience and I highly recommend them. read more

I had a wonderful time in 1997 setting up my Trust with Scott and have recomended them several times, but no longer. We Just left after amending a trust which took months and simple mistakes were made like the original date of the trust was 1997 and changes they made stated it was 2997; which my bank pointed out to me when giving them; what I thought, were finished and (non error) certification papers. Wow what a simple mistake to make. The first mistake My wife found which was all the phone #s were wrong for 4 people mentioned in the trust on every page they needed to be. They were all mismatched to the names as if a novice employee did the work. I found out later it was a long term owner that made these mistakes according to the rep I talked too. Then the first notary found the change of giving my children 100% of control on the date of our death was never made it still stated the %'s released up to age 35 when they get full control. She said she would get it corrected. That is a big mistake if it wasn't caught. We clearly put that instruction on the worksheet they gave us. I had high hopes that it would go smoothly, but have not been more disappointed in a local business in 62 years on this earth. Caveat Emptor 1000x! Oh by the way the last thing the final notary did was give us an attorney client termination letter. Like I would ever use their services again! I ended by saying I will be posting my reviews and then was threatened with a cease and desist letter and to be sued if we gave bad reviews. Then we heard we'll see who has deeper pockets. My wife was present for this last notarization. Every statement herein is true and NOT false and to the best of my ability in correct order. BTW just got my cease and desist letter on 7-31-23 ! The below reply by owner is completely inacurate and he was not present for any of these transactions! I am posting this review based on the GROUP of people who may research this review in the future and that they would get accurate info based on our experience of this local business and do so based on my first ammendment right to speak freely. Updating 9/10/2019. Be careful with this 'Christian' trust firm. For me, a huge waste of time, effort, and money! The seminar was great, but the initial free hour consultation is all about collecting your information and finishes by asking for payment in full. Contrary to their claims, if you need advice it's hard to come by. In one call, they told me to ask my CPA. What!?!? My short 2nd meeting to discuss changes to the draft ended with the son telling me to "Get out"! Not once, but 5 times! I'm 68 and never been treated so rudely! It was clear son Darling didnt believed my changes were in the best interest of my partner. He wanted my partner to come in for questioning. He ignored my suggestion to ask at next meeting. He was unwilling to accept this was unnecessary, unwanted by both of us, and was not part of our agreement. He did in fact, question my honesty and integrity. He did not understand or even want to understand our unique situation, neither could he comprehend these changes benifited my partner and her heirs far more than mine. (and remember, this is still in 1st draft stage -- 2nd draft, final review, signatures, and formalities are yet to come. Plenty of time to speak privately with my partner). "Get out"! 5 times! I'll never forget it! I should have listened to my gut feeling after the free consultation. Bottom line, evaluate your situation carefully, pay attention to their answers, listen to your heart. Do you really need one? A Trust is complicated and highly promoted. And at the end, the trustors will probably need legal advice. I spent at least 40 hours reading and trying to understand it. read more

I wish I could give a negative review. Scott and his team were super helpful when getting paid to set up our revocable trust in 2017. We requested an edit to the trust due to my father's deterioration with alzheimer's, sent payment, and Debby Darling told my family we were unable to make edits to our family revocable trust because, in Debby's words, "that's the law kiddo". Come to find out, thats not true and she most likely just didn't want to do it (per another individual I spoke to in office). Never have I been treated so poorly by a "professional". Spend your money elsewhere with a firm that cares above just farming out revocable trusts. read more

I read a couple of the earlier reviews from 2017 and frankly, I'm surprised. We're in the middle of working with Darling Law Offices on a trust, (specifically working with Scott) and it's been easy. Pulling together a trust is no easy feat by any means but they've made it more than palatable. I haven't had any problems thus far and I'm doing most of this from 3000 miles away. It's been easy to fax, easy to get meetings on the books with Scott when I'm in town, and easy to get straightforward answers from him and his staff. We arrived early to the seminar, decided to stretch our legs and started walking since we had approximately 15 minutes before it started. And some unprofessional lady comes out of theoffice yelling and says we can't park there, starts rudely counting the parking spaces and continues yelling saying I have 17 spaces for a seminar and you can't park here. Well guess what since she jumped the gun and has no idea we are there for the seminar and continues yelling. We told we would be right back since we're early. Guess what ,I don't want someone who doesn't have a clue that a potential client arrived early. If anybody wants to retain her because someone parked in your parking lot and they accuse you of going somewhere else, then you want a rude person like this that assumed you were using their parking lot . I will just get my information from old Perry Mason reruns. Don't waste you gas or time to see someone this rude. She was not very DARLING. She should have asked 1st instead of acting a foolishly by continuing to yell at us and then calls us rude WOW ! Maybe we should have walked there instead of parking there. read more
