I have been seeing Dr. Heron for almost 6 years for pain management re: Degenerative Spinal Disease with Progressive Osteoporosis. Having come from a county where the doctors did not follow up on my diagnoses, I was delighted to be taken seriously. Yes, the Wait Time is definitely a nuisance but I have found that the best doctors always have that problem. And Dr. Heron's treatment plans for me have increased my quality of life significantly! I couldn't drive a car prior to seeing Heron. Within a year of seeing him, I was back driving. When I asked for outside information re my conditions, Heron suggested materials to help change my life style. Dr. Heron has listened to me sharing about my unusual responses to treatments and been open to changing the treatment plans accordingly. This is a rare quality in specialists and I am most grateful. In summary, Dr Heron has given me a much improved quality of life and treated me with dignity never indicating disbelief in the level of my pain nor making remarks about "pill-seeking behavior," behaviors that other doctors in pain management felt were a required part of their new patient introductions. I don't mind waiting for Dr. Heron; he listens, follows through and treats me with dignity, kindness and successful treatments! PS In defense of the office staff, and the doctors, the state and federal guidelines concerning Pain Management (especially re the opioid crisis,) are very restrictive. My husband is having headaches for a long time. Our primary send us with this office. The doctor ordered a spinal tab and my husband got worst afterwards. We came to the emergency room and they told us to get in contact with the neurologist. I called the office and Rhonda told me that she doesn't have anything available until March. all dr heron could talk about with his nurse was how long his hair was getting!!! he thought that was the longest it had ever been. he didn't ask me anything and i thought i was there to see him apparently i was only there to listen to about his hair!!! chrissy will lie straight to your face by telling you one thing and then turns around and write something different in the report!!! i like dr bybee, he explained so much on the yellow line should follow your spine and you can look at your images and he just explains everything really well. i don't think he liked the part where i said i've tried just about everything you've suggested, but you have to remember this has been happening over 25 years now so it's not like it's my first rodeo. i really enjoyed the took so much time to explain everything in the x-rays in the he was looking at most of them just say well this is is that ok you're done bye. but he he took lots of time and i appreciate that so if it wasn't for his office staff which they don't know how to smile and they spend a lot of time talking to wouldn't be a bad place to go. oh and if you pay cash after you leave, expect three or four more bills to show up. read more

For the past several years, I have received lumbar steroid epidural injections from Dr. Heron. Admittedly it was a rough transition from Dr. Barnett who took care of me before his retirement. Dr. Barnett was a gregarious, upbeat, caring man with a casual demeanor who was always a delight to see. In addition, he did my procedure in his office outpatient suite so I was spoiled when I transitioned to Darroch with Dr. Herron who uses DMC. Dr. Herron is a different personality than Dr. Barnett and I initially thought he was a little odd, distant, and mechanical. Fortunately, I most often saw his nurse practitioner, Susan, now retired, who couldn't have been a better caregiver (she even gave me her personal contact information). Fast forward a few years and my impression has changed for the better. Perhaps with more history with Dr.Heron, I've found him more engaged, less mechanical, and unquestionably competent. I have a new NP in Megan who is warm, interested and helpful. The practice seems short staffed and there's room for improvement in their accessibility, appointment setting, and front staff warmth, but in contrast to my initial impression years ago, I'm pleased with my care. read more

Pain management Dr. Heron's medical staff is the most incompetent, rude, egotistical, and do not follow thru on insurance requests. Was advised I needed injections but they let the approval expire next order I was told I could not go to DMC for injections my insurance would not cover it. Insurance said that's the only hospital I could go to. Back office staff couldn't do their job other than being rude and allowed to do so by Dr. Heron. I was lucky enough that my insurance referred me to a much better doctor. Susan Tipton was the only decent staff there. read more

I was referred here for pain management. I won't bore you with a lot of detail, but after months of back and forth phone calls with long lapse of inattention on their part in between I finally blew up. The office staff had been repeatedly telling me they needed my doctor to fax over chart notes, so I called my doctor etc, and then 10 days later, "We never got it, we need chart notes." Same thing at least 3 -4 times had me ripping my hair out and grinding my teeth. I finally blew up and let them note what I really thought of them. Next thing someone left a message saying they didn't need chart notes, they had plenty of those, they needed to know what my doctor wanted them to do for me. Next thing my doctor told me they denied my referral saying they were too booked up to have time to help me. Long story short (sorry), in 50 years I have never dealt with such an incompetent, lost, broken, unhelpful, misguided, uncaring, feeble, negligent, incapable, time-wasting, unfocused, neglectful, unaccommodating, and seemingly confused group of office staff. Please, for your own sake, accept my advice and go somewhere else rather than waste your time here. If you do, you'll thank me later! read more

I have been a patient here for years, I have had my ups and downs. I do want to point out a few bright lights. Susie Castellanos has been taking care of me for years. She has been totally awesome, they need to hire at least 5 more people just like her. She has great work ethics and I know if she is handling any thing for me it will be done right. I have been there at 5 pm and most all of the employees are heading out the door, she is always working overtime taking care of all of us patients. I hope they are taking care of her. She would be pretty much impossible to replace. Dr. Heron and his crew are awesome too. Dr. Heron has changed my life, he works harder than any other Doctor that I have ever seen. Was seen on 10/5/21. Was advised that they would submit request to my insurance carrier ASAP and mark it as urgent, and get me on schedule for procedure... Contacted office on 10/19/21 and they had done absolutely nothing! They had not contacted me to follow up, they had not followed up with surgeons office, and they had not submitted the request for authorization with my insurance company. Furthermore they had no record of faxed documents (which I confirmed they received on 10/7/21). Followed up with the office manager Dianna on 10/19/21, who gave me nothing but attitude and excuses and she stated that she would be submitting request for authorization with my insurance company by end of business on 10/19/21. Followed up with my insurance carrier on 10/20/21 and they had not received a request!!! Filed complaint with my insurance carrier and state medical board. If this as any indication of how they conduct business, there is no way in hell im going to let them touch my back or spine! PS: Emily, you have my information and have had it for over 2 weeks and you have done nothing with it! I was recently admitted to the hospital . I have had chronic spine problems that was starting to make walking difficult and painful. I had a pinched nerve among other things. After an M.R.I. I was visited by the P.A and 3 surgeons from this practice. By the next day I had a procedure and I couldn't be more pleased with every aspect of their care. very difficult to get hold of anyone no one calls back when they sy they are going to waited 2 months to get my 1sr appointment then waited another to see another Doctor then another 6 weeks to get my first procedure. Waited 3 weeks for my follow up appointment. I saw the NP on 7/11 and 2 days later received a denial letter from my insurance company for the second phase of the procedure dated 7/10. The procedure was performed on 6/21 and on 6/26 someone sent in a report to the insurance company a request for phase two without seeing me until 7/10. The Doctor did not have the proper information to request the procedure and it was denied. Yet again I get the run around on trying to get hold of anyone to try and resolve this. read more

Worst experience ever. Dr. Herron did not look at my mri or ct scan. He said na I don't need to. My appointment lasted all of 5 minutes and he said I needed 3 injections. I should of went with my gut feeling and not gone back. Went in for my injections, I believe I was the last patient of the day, he seemed very rushed through my injections. Most painful thing I've ever gone through. He said he'd use a numbing shot before each injection, well he did but didn't give it anytime to numb. As I was crying, the nurse said just breathe. Dr Bybee just wants to do surgery. Never looked at my mri. Never followed up with me. Years later they are demanding an copay and can't verify the date of service. Office is rude. Stated that they are waiving the copays and almost 4 years to the day they say they want it. Office manager said "it was a mistake" now they want the money. They also send other customers mail to other people's addresses. Stanford said not to do surgery. If I followed Bybee I would be in worse shape now. Dr.Remington lacks empathy, has horrible bed side manners is condescending and very disrespectful. Second time seeing him and was treated the same, his racism shows and he had me in tears again because he made feel like he wasn't seeing me as a human being. Had his back turned the whole appointment even has I cried. Office staff is just as horrible and so rude. The only person that made me feel comfortable was the intern who saw me before Remington and she was also a minority so ... it's horrible that this racist so called doctor is in a field that is so life or death situations. So when I posted my review the first time I was honestly unsure of why this place had so many negative reviews. Well now I'm seeing what the problem is and I understand everyone's frustration. My issue is not with my doctor, he was amazing. However the communication between staff seems to be severely lacking. I was told by my doctor that I wouldn't have to go to surgery right away for my pain, that there was a procedure we can try first. Well about a week after my consultation with my doctor I wanted to follow up and see when I could get scheduled so I called and they basically cut me off before I finished my sentence to let me know they're waiting on insurance to approve it. When they finally call me back, I find out she's scheduling me and seeking insurance approval for the wrong thing (surgery). If she had just let me finish my sentence she probably wouldn't have made that mistake. I desperately tried to let her know that my doctor didn't recommend surgery right away, that there was a simpler procedure we can try. She then cut me off AGAIN and forwarded me to the head of SURGERY. Why am I being forwarded to surgery when I just explained that that's not what I needed? I called back again today and finally got directed to my doctor's assistant. I found out I'm going to have to wait AGAIN for the insurance to approve my procedure. Meanwhile I am in severe pain, barely able to perform at my job, take care of my family, or do any of my normal daily activities. All while these people are messing around scheduling the wrong thing. This is peoples' health they're dealing with, and I feel as though it's being grossly mishandled. I was referred to Darroch Brain & Spine Inst. for ongoing pain in my neck. I saw Dr. Remington. He carefully reviewed my X-rays and MRI. Asked questions and did an exam. and said that I was a prime candidate for surgery. I was not ready for that- and he did not pressure me.He did prescribe physical therapy. After about a year I returned to Dr. Remington because of increased pain, tingling & numbness in my hand and arms. I did end up with surgery. It was all a smooth process. Dr. Remington is caring, easy to talk with and very clear. He reviewed the MRI with me before and after surgery. The staff is always kind and helpful. (One receptionist is sometimes abrupt and less than personable.) Spinal surgery is a scary prospect. I feel confident that I am recieving excellent care. I will continue with Dr. Remington for my ongoing spinal issues. read more

The worst service! Took me 3 weeks to get an appointment. They gave me the run around! My referral was accepted on dec 3rd and they never called me. I called every other day and they kept sending me to Amber to schedule me, she NEVER answered the phone, left voicemail with my info NEVER called me back. Until I called again and again and asked for my doctor to refer me to someone else. I called one last time and they scheduled me an appointment for a month later. I have been in immense pain for the last 5 years. I have spine damage. I am not a cry baby and only go to the doctor if I am extremely sick. I don't care for doctors. I have been playing the insurance scam game for 5 years. I finally got an appointment with Dr. HELBIG, I thought oh thank you God I will get help for my Spine. Relief from the pain in my back and the fire in my right leg. I finally got an appointment. He made me cry. He is has a terrible bedside manner. I explained to him that I was seeing Bobby Tay, at UCSF for my spine. BUT MY NEW INSURANCE WON'T ALLOW ME TO SEE MY DOCTOR TAY. So, I am searching for relief. I told him I can't lay flat without moving! I have issues with the test, CAT and MRI. That I need to be sedated like Bobby Tay did. I had the test two years ago. He told me he needed a new test and would order the test. I got approved finally from the insurance. In my mind I was getting the same test Bobby Tay ordered. MRI with IV dye. Nope, I got to DMC he order a different test that required me to get an injection directly in the spin to insert the dye. What a PAINFUL Procedure. Dr. Helbig did not listen to a word I said. I can NOT lay flat!!!!!!! that was the most Painful procedure I have ever had in my life. I thought I was going to go into shock from the pain. Just like the other review, the nurse said just breathe. Horrible! I hope one day that get that procedure themselves so they can see the pain. Instant head pain, your legs are on fire from the dye. Then after you have to lay FLAT for two hours. I thought I was going to die. Doctor Helbig did NOT explain the procedure he ordered. If he did I would of said Hell NO. I am waiting for the results. I will be sure to get NEW insurance so I can go see my Dr. Tay who is caring and listens. My dogs get better care at the Vet at least they get petted and loved. I just had an appointment at Dr. Bybees office for a spine issue that I was born with and it has begun to cause some pain. The office staff is super nice. The doctor listened to everything I said. Once I was finished with all of my concerns he answered everything that I had been "complaining" about. Dr. Bybee explained everything regarding my spine defect and if I had any questions he made sure to answer them, and made sure that I understood what he was explaining. His office staff is totally uncaring, incompetent, and have an attitude that defies imagination. every time I have called his office, it is the pains of hell. No call backs, your problems brushed off, etc. I had a procedure done, and afterwards, found myself having great pain. Talked with Dr. Jackson, and he called in a prescription. I had a appointment set for early December with dr heron but Donna showed up to tell me the dr got approved for two shots in my back when I only received one.. after 6 weeks of me calling I finally get a call back to hear they never put in for authorization for my back shots but they were doing it in a week or so.. I was referred to Dr. Kyle Heron after my prior anesthesiologist and pain management doctor (who was wonderful!) retired. I was in a great deal of pain at the beginning of 2020, and received the insurance authorization. I was told by Dr. Heron's office that I could not get in until August for a new patient visit. I felt I had no choice, so I waited. The receptionist said I wouldn't need to complete new paperwork because I'd been seen by Dr. Bybee (sane group) in December. I arrived for my appointment and there was a sign on the door to wait for someone to come out to get me (due to COVID-19). It was approximately 100 degrees out, but I waited. After about 5 minutes, fortunately, an employee was going to enter the building and said she would have someone come out, which they did in another minute or so. They asked for my paperwork & explained that I had been told I didn't need to complete it. The receptionist then handed me the packet I had completed in December and asked me to update it. (This has been for a completely different issue, so took awhile to update. When I took the packet back to the receptionist, I asked how long the wait would be because my sister (who had driven me to the appointment was waiting in the car (engine & AC on due to the heat). She said it would probably be "an hour or two"!!! This was a scheduled appointment!! I went out to tell my sister & fortunately, she was able to have someone drive out (approximately 5 miles) to pick her up so she could get her car and go home. I was finally called in, and in spite of all staff & patients wearing masks as required by COVID-19, Dr. Heron came into the exam room WITHOUT A MASK!! I was taken aback, but didn't know how to address it. It is now September 15, 2020 and I was given an 8:00 am appointment for a triple block injection procedure. I arrived at my appointment at the Coffee Road Surgery Center where Dr. Heron does the procedure. The receptionist there told me that I wasn't scheduled until 1:30 today. Fortunately, I don't live far away & am able to return. Needless to say, I am leery of having my procedure by this doctor. Will he wear a mask? Will his implements be properly sterilized? Will he do it correctly? I will most likely be looking for another pain management doctor for the future as I usually have to get the injections every 6 months. I have never experienced such inefficiency and careless disregard for patients. Shocking! read more

I was referred to Dr. Heron from my primary. I recieved the referral from insurance in September and received an appointment in December. A packet was sent to me to have filled out and it said I needed my medical records and copies of MRIS and other xrays ect. It said they needed the copies at least 1 week before appointment. I did all that and took them to the office only for them to tell me that my primary had already sent everything over there. That should have been a sign. I have to say I really liked Dr. Heron and found him to be very thorough. I was happy with my appointment and had a good feeling about it. I had my next appointment scheduled in the first week of January. Unfortunately I received a call from the office approximately the last week of December telling me that TENENT who apparently does there billing doesn't work with SUTTER HEALTH! I asked why would they except a referral from my insurance let me have my first appointment, not counting the hassle of getting all my information for no apparent reason and then not work with SUTTER HEALTH! They didn't have an answer and I have not received any return calls from TENENT! I also have to say Jessica his nurse was great! read more

I waited 2 months to get an appointment and was instructed to be sure to bring all medical records or I would be denied a visit. My PCP was shocked of the 2-month waiting period and suggested I call them back and ask to be placed on a waiting list if there are cancellations. No such thing! This should have been a red flag. Staff was extremely un-caring and rude during the process. I arrived at the office to find it empty of patients, I thought I waited 2 months because how busy they were. I was placed in a rather dark and gloomy room; Dr. Heron walks in with a female that was writing notes. This was about a 15-minute visit and felt extremely rushed, he stood the whole time near the door as if he just could not wait to leave. I was interrupted so many times that I kept getting the urge to get up and leave. Never have I experienced anything like this in my lifetime with a medical doctor. I found Dr. Heron to be highly incompetent, arrogant, conceited with a lack of bedside manners. I had hundreds of pages in my medical record with MRI's. He glanced at a few lines on the first page of the record and placed an MRI image up in the air, squinted his eyes and stated: Everything looks perfect. The only time the nurse spoke was one time to contradict me on a statement I made specifically to the doctor, instead she thought she was the doctor and blurted out a poor response that was not hers to give. My impression is that perhaps this clinic is strictly for patients who are terminally ill and if you are not, this is not a place to go for help. I cannot emphasize enough how rude, unwelcoming and un-caring the staff was during this process. The ultimate insult? A $600 bill. Please do your due diligence in finding a caring compassionate doctor and do not give up, they do exist. read more

After seeing my primary doctor and receiving an authorization from the insurance company the first week of April, I waited for a call from Dr. Heron's office (Darroch Brain & Spine Institute). Because I had not been contacted by Dr. Heron's office, I began making numerous telephone calls asking when I could see the doctor. I finally received a call from the doctor's office explaining that the doctor would see me. He saw me on June 17, 2019, 69 days after the first authorization had been approved. A few days later, a second authorization was received to continue seeing Dr. Heron. On July 12, 2019, I received the third authorization to continue seeing the doctor. In mid-July I received my first procedure for my neck pain. Because I had not received a follow-up telephone call from the doctor's office, I again resumed calling the office to ask what to expect next. Finally, on August 7, 2019, I was invited to see a Nurse Practitioner in the doctor's office. After seeing him, he said that I would be contacted in approximately two weeks. Shortly thereafter, I received the 4th insurance authorization to continue seeing the doctor. I waited and finally received a telephone call from Dr. Heron's office on August 27, 2017. They said they were awaiting authorization from the insurance company. I told them that we had received a copy of the authorization. The office person asked if we could bring our copy to their office. This was the second request of this nature pertaining to a prior authorization, inviting me to bring in my copy. At this point, I told them that I did not want to continue working with their office. I told them that in the many years that I have seen doctors, I have never been disregarded as a person and patient. Further, I told them their office personnel lacked the professionalism required in caring for the needs of the people they are supposed to be assisting. From the day of the first authorization to the day I decided to leave (140 days), I had received only one treatment and had visited the office on two occasions. Needless to say, this was the WORST experience I have ever had with any doctor's office. To this day, my pain persists. read more

This place is a joke!!!!! Here we have people in extreme pain just placed on opioids and waiting for the staff to get there crap together and submit requests for treatment. It has been over 3 weeks and they still have not even sent the request to our insurance. Half of the time they don't even answer the phone. The staff is the worst I have ever had to deal with. I wish there was a negative scale! Dr Kyle Heron just switched pain management group, Darrock brain and spine being Dr. Herron's new office. I have chronic lower back pain that Dr. Herron has been treating for 2 yrs. He started at the new office in January. I went into the office 1/3/2019 to make an appointment. One of the office staff said he wouldn't be starting until the following week. She had me do a medical release from so my medical records would be there when the Dr got there. I went back into the new office for an update on when I could make an appointment. The same young lady I spoke to the first time, Patty, who sits on the right side of the counter, said I would need a new referral (approximately 3-4 weeks). I told her I just received an approveal letter from insurance dated 11/20/2018 for treatment. Patty ROLLED HER EYES AT ME and made an appointment for 1/29/2019 @ 4:45. Handed me a 6 page packet to fill out told me to have it completed with referral. She went on to tell me if the packet wasn't filled out properly my appointment would be canceled. I started to ask her a question she WALKED AWAY from me, leaving standing at the counter with no answer to my question. I went back for my appointment on 1/29, I arrived at 3:30 cause I knew Patty was going to go through the packet with a fine tooth comb. Patty took copies of my insurance card and DL. Walked away came back and said the referral I had attached to the packet was old and I needed a new referral. I WAS LIVID, I thought my husband was going to pop a blood vessel. I'm in extreme pain, the last treatment I recieved was in Sept 2018. I went home and called my insurance, I was informed by my insurance that Dr Herron was no longer in my insurance network. I was so angry I was dizzie. I find it hard to believe that the office staff wasn't aware of that fact, I had to show my insurance card everytime I went into the office. If you get referred to Darrock brain and spine institute ask for a different clinic. I've also read reviews on a couple of Dr.'s in this office pretty much the same complaint as mine, unprofessional, rude, and arrogant. read more
