The history of it is fascinating…read more It's pretty easy to navigate with plenty of directional signs and an employee at the main desk who is happy to help. The rotunda alone is fabulous. There's a cafeteria with plenty of options and a stand alone coffee bar as well. If you don't take the time to go inside you are definitely missing out. The grounds are also beautiful with a stunning fountain that may be dyed for certain months - aka pink for breast cancer awareness. There's plenty of parking options nearby. An absolute must see if you're in the area.

Lovely time at the guided-tour of the Capitol Building…read more Free 30-minute guided tours are available throughout the day between 8:30am and 4pm on weekdays, but are less frequent on weekends an holidays. Be sure to check their website to reserve a spot. After entering through the Rotunda area on North 3rd Street you will have to go through a TSA-style metal detector. You can then wait in that area for your tour to begin. There are bathrooms and a coat rack in this area if needed. Our tour guide was great. She took us through the building, offering some interesting facts of the different sections: main rotunda, House of Reps, Senate an Supreme Court. Photography is allowed but video is NOT. Great experience. Highly recommended to all visiting the area.

The Fired department is right next door ! This good in case anyone has a Panic attack or need Medical attention !!! ** The Security force is very Professional , kind, polite and thorough ! * The other people who work there ; Lawyers, Judges , Legal Assistants, are very helpful as well ! ** The only drawback is that its Cooler outside compared to inside this building during this hot humid weather , This is including the " LL " where you can get ( free legal advice ) !. ** It's basically too hot and humid in side this building. They need to crank the AC to a cooler setting. ** I feel sorry for everyone who has to dress in a Suit or for the ladies who choose to wear a Skirt or Pant Suit ! ** It would be nicer for everyone if they can make it more comfortable, meaning less hot and humid atmosphere" in side" this building during the Summer ! ** Being so hot and humid in this building could cause some people to have an anxiety attack or pass out from sweating so much ! * For me personally I would have to transfer to a better climate control office which is not like a Sauna! ! *Note :Everyone's time is valuable, it would be nice for everyone if the Court house would notify everyone involved when a court case has been canceled earlier that day so no one has to waste time traveling ! !

The process is much better. I check into room 240 and a pleasant young lady directed me to 1 of 6…read morekiosks, where they ask for your mailed summons and you scan the bar code and after checking in, you are directed to the payment line for proof of service and the mandatory $15 payment. It took less than 5 minutes. I was very impressed. Next, I was directed to take a seat in this room or one of three other juror assembly rooms in addition to a "quiet room", if that was your choice. *NOTE: Baltimore City has a one day/one trail pro ess so if you are not selected to serve on a jury you are eligible to be called the following year. Just because you were summoned to serve does not equate to serving as a juror. And as always, they have movies for your viewing pleasure, often the latest ones out on DVD and, if you are not chosen by lunchtime you are allocated an up to 90 minute lunch break where you can leave the building and report back at the time indicted. All in all, a needed improvement in the check-in process for jury duty.

June 2023…read more Disclaimer: Review based solely on jury service experience I was summoned back in April for jury service, but was sick so was excused and resummoned for June. If you are summoned for jury duty, note that the parking garage is a zoo so plan to arrive early. Fortunately they don't start promptly so it's ok if you are several minutes late. Upon arriving at the courthouse, you will need to go through security. The jury assembly room is upstairs to the left. Upon entering the room, you sign in at the desk on the right, then you can be seated anywhere. There is plenty of seats including counter seats with outlets if you need to work on a laptop or charge your electronic devices. The jury assembly room has a kitchen with vending machines, a coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, and two dining tables (each seats 4). There is also a water dispenser (accessible for bottles), coat room, and restroom. The judge came out and spoke to us and thanked us for our time and service. Later, a circuit clerk called our names and gave us a badge with a number on it. This would be used as our personal identification instead of being referred to by our names if we were selected to be a juror. We were then instructed to go in line to get our parking validated and to receive our $30 expense money. We were informed mid-morning that we were dismissed from service and given documentation to provide to our employers as evidence of our service. It was the funniest thing to see how quickly everyone bolted out of the courthouse. It had the same feeling to me as Black Friday. Lol. Getting out of the parking garage was comparable to leaving a venue after a concert or an event. It was jam-packed and slow getting out. Note, the gate was open so it wasn't necessary to check out at the kiosk. I liked my jury experience in Howard County much better than when I served in Montgomery County mainly because parking was more adequate and I am slightly more knowledgeable of the process this time around.
