Mark tried to talk us into it, but after going over prices for all the other stuff, there was a little bit of sticker shock.

The Conewago trail is 5 miles long and connects directly to the Lebanon Valley Rail-Trail. The…read moretrail is a crushed stone trail; however, it's apparently old enough that gravels beneath begin to be exposed, making it rough to ride on. Furthermore, not only is the trail narrower than a typical rail trail, sections of it have a surface which is rounded or convex with ditches on both sides. This may make beginning bikers uncomfortable. As well, it could cause a bit of a congestion on a crowded day like today, when a family with a stroller is in the way. Scenery-wise it's also ranked low in my book. It's mostly a wooded scene without much of anything else; making the ride very monotonous and boring.  The trail has to cross Rt. 743 (Hershey Rd) which has heavy traffic but without any light or sign, making it dangerous to cross.  I do appreciate all the trails created by volunteers, but I also want to provide relative ratings based on my experience.  Regretfully, this is one of the lower ranking trails for me.

While nicely maintained and great environment overall, this trail is not absolutely perfect for bikes. The crown is rather high (smart for water management), so you have to stick to the lanes or disaster would await. There is a mixture of surface, small loose gravel, and some crushed limestone. But with a gravel bike, we were on our Cannondale Topstone's or a hybrid with wider tires (28mm +) it's just fine. There is very slight grade in either direction. It is indeed beautiful. Beware there is a crossing for a Mill road, very steep on both sides, blind curves for cars. Do honor the caution and walk across. Also there are a lot of older & middle aged walkers especially lady dog walkers. Honor the speed limits for you own safety, and don't ride like a jerk and give us all a bad name. We got some tolerant smiles, but we were the only cyclists (did see one woman the day before when we walked a couple miles to check it out.

The bank rooms have been preserved, and you can see the walnut paying and receiving teller cages, the walk-in vault, and many tools used by employees of the bank. It was really cool to see and explore the bank. I learned about the history of the building, the bank, and Columbia through my guided tour of the museum. But what made my time at First National Bank Museum extra special was Nora. If you want to take a tour, you go to their website and send them an email requesting a tour. Nora is who will email you back to arrange a time for your tour. And she's great. Nora's parents bought the building when it was for sale back in the 1950s. Her parents knew that it was very likely the building would be torn down and the building lost to history, and so they took it on themselves to protect it. Nora grew up in the house (only the front two rooms served as the bank, but the rest of the building was a house or hotel at various times), and now she and her husband operate the museum and are continually taking care of restoring different parts of the building (right now, they're working on restoring the front doors). This personal story of a family's dedication to preserving history and sharing it with visitors to and residents of Columbia really moved me. Not only is Nora a very personable and knowledgeable guide around the small museum, the museum is her family's history and that makes it an incredibly personal tour. If you're in Columbia, I recommend trying to include a visit to the First National Bank Museum. It's a great way to learn about and explore Columbia and its history. And you'll get to spend some time with the lovely Nora!

Enjoy a private guided tour of an original bank from the 1850's and learn about this bank's role in the extensive development of the industries and transportation systems throughout this area along the lower shores of the mighty Susquehanna River. The First National Bank of Columbia was created in the front two corner rooms of a stately Federal-style townhouse, built in 1814 for James Wright, Jr. It survives in tact today because of the extraordinary guts and vision of the late Lloyd and Jean Motter. Their legacy continues through the ongoing restoration, maintenance, and loving care provided by their daughter, Nora Motter Stark, and her husband, Michael.

During the 3-day trip, Ahmed was personable and fit in with the group members and interacted with them when he wasn't driving. But most importantly, he was a very safe driver that I could relax with from the front seat. The motorcoach was very clean and well-maintained, and when we got some rain, Ahmed made sure to cover the steps into the bus to avoid slippage. The company is top-notch!

There are not enough good things we can say about this driver and this company. Our agency has been taking motor coach tours throughout the country with a variety of motor coach companies since the late 1970s. I cannot speak of the tours prior to 1992, but, in the last 30 years, I do not believe we had a better bus driver than, Dee or a better motor coach. Dee showed superb driving skills with the ability to get to destinations in a timely manner without sacrificing safety and security. While driving Dee was able to provide a safe and comfortable experience for our travelers. She helped the passengers in all aspects of the trip, even when our chaperones were ill and were unable to go along on some spots on this trip. Dee went above and beyond when the hotel our group was staying at let us down. Dee was polite, courteous, and showed a professional manner with all passengers at all times. She was also outgoing and had a personality that kept our tour lively and fun. In past trips we have had very good drivers and drivers that were very personable, but, Dee provided the best combination of outstanding driving and great customer relations. We hope to use Innovative Coach and Dee in the future, Thanks!
