When you want to be charged $800 just for your spark plugs to be changed, I highly recommend Dave's Car Care Center they charged us $500 in labor, $200 for the spark plugs and $100 to hook a machine up to the truck to find out why the check engine light is on when we TOLD them it needed spark plugs Lmaoo. Yeah guys, $800 just for spark plugs.. it's disgusting. Y'all aren't helping ANYBODY in Lafayette with those prices and I'm going to make sure nobody else brings their vehicles there to get ripped off like we were. read more

Price gouging!!! Charged me $15 for a Quart of oil. I called and asked why and he said he didn't know where I would get oil for $15 a Gallon - Wal-Mart is where - but "we don't do business with Wal-Mart." So they charge 4 times the price on oil!! Dang that's high. He also said "we are not really in the oil change business" and "I gotta pay all my guys". He said he pays $29 a gallon for this oil. If that's right someone is ripping him off. We have been bringing multiple cars here for years, and I ends today. Very sad. read more

Being new to Lafayette, I chose this place based on reviews I read. I have a new car but needed a tire rotation. I took it in and they were friendly and quick and it was only $50 for the rotation. A couple months later I needed a 20,000 mile check( my maintenance light was on). They checked all for me and did not charge me. They are friendly, efficient, and quick. Their prices have been reasonable and I can honestly say my car has been running better, since I started coming here. Dave's is awesome. The manager (Charlie) handles the phones and the front desk. He's very attentive and is great with customer service. The mechanics that work here are great, too. I usually ask them to explain to me what the problem is, and they have no problem helping me to understand. I'm not sure if they're the cheapest in town, but the price always seems reasonable, and the service and quality keep me from even looking elsewhere. read more

Wife's 2000 Suburban was making a nasty knocking sound coming from the rear wheels. Dave's is convenient, has 5 bays and looks like a bustling shop. Dropped the 'Burb and let them at it. We got the bad news that her rear end was shot - her car's rear end, that is. Estimate was escalating above the $1K mark, so we asked how imminent the end would be without the repair. He gave the standard mechanic's answer: could be years - could be tomorrow. The silver lining: he would buy the vehicle from us, take it off our hands so we'd never have to worry about it again, for $4500. Yes, it's a lowball offer, but we're driving damaged goods. She couldn't part with it, so we decided to drive it into the ground. We thanked him for his efforts and paid him for his time. I was trying to avoid driving the 50 miles to my brother's automatic transmission shop because he's always busy and I'm saving the "family discount" for something huge. Well, this started to qualify for huge so off I went. I asked if he worked on differentials, and he said he would take a look. I was thumbing through a 4-year-old Field and Stream in his office when he came back in and asked if I had $60. I told him I could spare it, and he told me that I needed a U-Joint. Ten bucks for the piece and grease and a 50 spot for his man to change it out. The sound was gone, and I saved not only the car but a thousand dollars over Dave's experts. The question I asked my brother: Is it possible that the rear end noise and u-joint noise could be confused with each other. You already know the answer: no way a competent mechanic could do that. When they're not in the market for a used car they may do quality work. I will never know as I will never return to them for auto repair. ---- UPDATE 2/3/2016: Got a note from the manager recently asking for details, which I willingly provided. He assured me that what I experienced is not standard procedure for his shop. Judging from other reviews I'm inclined to agree. This may have been a bad apple that had a jones for a Suburban. I hope he's gone. Nevertheless, there's a bad taste in my mouth that will prevent my return. Still, it was a nice gesture of Charlie to try to get to the bottom of things. read more

I was referred to this business by friends who told me it was as good as it gets when it comes to service and that they were honest too. I asked for a quote on a repair that I had been previously quoted by another shop as possibly costing me 600 dollars or more. Dave's told me that they could do it for half the price and even broke down the quote for me without trying to BS me like the previous shop had. I will be going to these guys from now on. read more

Great service. I've taken my car to another local mechanic 3 times and the problem was never diagnosed so it was never fixed. At Dave's, I dropped it off at 8:00 AM and within 1.5 hours received a call with a diagnosis and very reasonable quote. I was able to pick up my car the same day and its running great. Was introduced to Dave's when I had the unfortunate experience of my transmission going out. My father looked them up and gave them a call since I was new to the area. They came over to my work towed my car, got a new transmission in pronto and just took care of us over all. A couple of days later there seemed to be issues with the new transmission so I promptly took my vehicle back, and they went through checked everything and found their mechanic didn't screw something in tightly enough and it could have caused serious issues. But they repaired everything with no additional cost to me and made sure everything was good to go. That was almost 5 years ago now. I take my vehicle to no one else, because I love Charlie and his group. They always make time for me when I come in, know me by name and never try to "pull one over" on me because I am female. They are an honest group of people, who always try to do the right thing, whether it's the job they are working or simple advice, which I have called several times asking for and I always get the help I need. And Mad Maxine is always a bonus to get to visit with when she is in a good mood. =) read more
