If you have out of town guests, a ride to this hidden treasure will make for a fun day trip! In the spring, plants and herbs from A-Z are available, starting at Anise Hyssop and down the line! Some of the perennial herbs I had purchased here years ago, still come back year after year! My Sweet Woodruff was planted many moons pasts and flourishes as a ground cover each season! They also carry some hard to find herb varieties too! I'm especially fond of the Cuban Oregano, Tuscan Blue Rosemary(that's for remembrance, quoting Ophelia in Shakespeare's Hamlet) and the Rue (you must wear your rue with a difference, Ophelia says!) Winter, spring, summer or fall, there's always something to see at Lavender Fields. In addition to the wide selection of plants, LFHF also has other amenities; local raw honey, tours, classes, a gift shop, teas, garden supplies and tools, planters, beautiful landscaping that backs up the the Chickahominy River, and don't forget their famous lavender lemonade and ice cream. I remembered this cool plant house I follow on Instagram. They have great post and been meaning to return. I texted the number on their page and asked if they still offer plant help. They answered and told me to come right in. I arrived to a bright and eager to help Sophia! She was so sweet and her customer service and plant knowledge were amazing. She took a look at my plant and gave tips and tricks. She also trimmed off things that I missed and things she felt like were doing more harm. She even helped me make a plan thru the summer so for my plant. She did all of this with a smile no charge! They have this awesome flyer posted on the counter with their names and Venmo's so of course I looked out for her as it was so deserving! This was a well needed trip! I feel so much better about my plant! I will def be returning soon as they have tables where you make your own terrariums and I'm soooo excited to do so! Can't wait to report back! In the meantime please go visit them for all your plant needs and to pick up so new babies. They have plants from roots; plants being propagated; full grown; mid size. I visited Pleasant's for the first time last month to purchase some screwdrivers to upgrade my…read morecurrent set (which I've had since 2006 when my grandmother passed, and she likely had the set for 40 years prior to that too). When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and asked if we were looking for something in particular. We were then efficiently walked over to the aisle housing screwdrivers and told about the different options. They were locked in a case, so we would've needed a staff member's help anyway. Apparently people like to steal screwdrivers, which I never would've guessed. Prices seemed fair, but to be transparent, I don't generally buy tools so I don't really know the going rates. Check out was just as efficient with a couple lines in operation. And the cashier was just as friendly as the staff member working the floor. Everyone was properly masked and social distancing was taking place as well. I would suggest supporting this small business and those like it prior to going to the big box stores.

With all of this cooking I've been doing, I thought it would be nice to have fresh herbs at the ready, so off we went. This is the definition of a quaint, local hardware store. There is everything you could need for your home projects plus a little extra, but not much extra. The store is much less overwhelming than the big box hardware stores and the employees were SO helpful. I really enjoyed my experience there, which I never thought I'd say about a hardware store. I also enrolled in their loyalty program and got $5 off my purchase today. Score! This was our third stop of the day looking for a tree, as other places (retail chains) had mediocre options. But here we found a beautiful 9/10ft tree in just 5 minutes, and for only $159! Fantastic customer service too! They carried our selection through the lot, trim/wrap station, and loaded it in our truck! This will be our new go-to Christmas tree location!
