Sideways Inn is the loveliest, whimsical little inn right off the freeway. My husband and I were…read morehere for the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon and we loved most of our stay here. The inn was a 10 minute walk from the marathon shuttle. The design of each detail is thoughtful and fun, from their lobby to the room, fitness center, and lounge. Each choice from color palette, font, and furniture made our stay feel like a little escape instead of being at a big corporation. We also visited the lounge for late night snacks and drinks and the bartender was great. Our only two complaints were the showerhead and barn door. The showerhead is a rainfall style, so for me, it wasn't angled or pressured enough to get the wash I prefer, and the barn door will slam against the countertop with the slightest outward pressure. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated our stay.

Ordered beer and Wine. Received my beverages immediately by our bartender who was nice and professional! I did not get his name but he was on shift that day. BIG Kudos to him for being an excellent bartender that night. This place is a hotel with a separate bar. I checked in the front desk thinking the bar was inside. I also heard the Sideways Inn was in a popular movie. Lol Good place to chill and socialize. I recommend! Good experience

Staff were friendly and it was pretty fast to check in/check out. Parking was decent and never really had to go too far to find a spot. Overall the hotel was clean and cared for both inside and outside. Looked like it had a great bar/restaurant but didn't get a chance to go. Same with the pool, our room was directly over it and I could see people enjoying it throughout the day. The room was clean and kept up, no damage or ware that I could see. Also good sound rating as we never heard people in the pool or our neighbors. Big drawback to the room was it had no microwave so you have to go to the lobby to access one. The ice machine was also on the other side of the hotel through the lobby which was a bit inconvenient. If I could I would give this a 3.5 but there was a lot more positive than negative so the 4 is warranted.

The front desk staff at this Marriott hotel was fantastic, but the rooms were extremely dirty…read more Upon entering our room, we found two beer cans. One was inside, near the bed next to the balcony door, and the other was outside on the balcony, next to a small pile of cigarette butts. The sofa had a large dark stain with what looked like chocolate shavings. In the bathroom, fresh towels were placed on top of an exposed dirty pipe in one of the cubbies under the sink vanity. I'm curious to know why there are any exposed pipes in the first place. I'm sure having exposed pipes violates multiple city and health codes. One unique thing I noticed at this Marriott hotel was that the room had Febreze Car Clip Air Fresheners attached to the AC vents. I've never seen this at any other hotel. I'm not sure if this is standard practice at this hotel or if it was added to this particular room because the previous guest smoked in it. I emailed the hotel general manager, never received a reply or courtesy call. This is not what we expected from a reputable brand like Marriott.

We stayed at the Inn at Mattei's Tavern this past weekend and had dinner at the titular Tavern, an…read moreupscale contemporary restaurant in a reincarnated central California stagecoach stop dating back to 1886. The inn leans into the old west aesthetic, but the tavern is just elegant and attractive, with leather furniture, a high vaulted ceiling, and a lot of windows. It was pleasantly bustling on a Friday night, with what seemed like a mix of hotel guests and other visitors. Los Olivos has a population that hovers around 1,000, so this restaurant, like the stagecoach stop, is there to serve travelers. Accordingly, service was first class. There was a full bar with elaborate cocktails and plenty of wine from the area. We ordered two rounds of cocktails, as we planned to drink wine all weekend, and they were all very good. The Vaquero Campfire was a refreshing mezcal drink with pink peppercorn, honey, and charred grapefruit. The Cigars & Horses was a boozy mix of bourbon, yellow chartreuse, and smoked cinnamon. Los Rancheros Vistadores was a pleasantly bitter tequila cocktail, with reposado, amaro, Aperol, and orange olive oil. And the Pinochle Punch was a smooth blend of milk-clarified rye, cognac, and orange. We ordered wines by the glass to go with our entrees, and these were both lovely, too. The Sandlands Lodi Red Table Wine and the Racines Mattei's Cuvée, a Chardonnay that must have some connection to Mattei's Tavern. The food was delicious. We started with a half dozen oysters with mignonette and lemon and Gin's tuna carpaccio, topped with scallion, radish, ginger dressing, and cold-pressed California olive oil. Then we had Mattei's house focaccia, served with cultured butter and herb oil, and the country pâté, with cherry, tarragon, and sourdough. The entrées were both excellent. The Channel Islands rockfish was beautifully cooked, served in a vibrant tomatillo sauce with hoja santa, with sides of roti, grilled avocado, and grilled lime. The Colorado lamb was tender and juicy with a nice spiced crust. It came with couscous, vadouvan, mint yogurt, onion, and dates. For dessert, we shared the affogato: vanilla ice cream, Handlebar espresso. Hard to think of a better way to wind down a big meal. We charged dinner to the room and got $100 through a hotel promotion. This covered some of our drinks. The Tavern is not a cheap restaurant, but it is a great one, well worth checking out on your visit to Los Olivos.

We made a reservation at The Tavern to celebrate our one-year anniversary, so it was disappointing…read moreto arrive and learn that our reservation had somehow been canceled. We had specifically chosen this restaurant because we were traveling with our dog and understood that their outdoor seating area was dog-friendly. We were told that the outdoor patio was closed for a private event. Since we had made our reservation more than a week in advance, it would have been helpful if the restaurant had notified us ahead of time so we could have made other arrangements. Unfortunately, we ended up having to leave our dog back at the hotel. To their credit, the hostess did her best to accommodate us and found us a table in the bar area near the fireplace. However, the location wasn't ideal for an anniversary dinner. Guests frequently walked and stood in front of the fireplace directly in front of our table, and at one point other patrons even sat down at our table, making what was supposed to be a romantic evening feel awkward and disrupted. The food itself was excellent, and we genuinely enjoyed our meal. Had it not been for the reservation mix-up and the restaurant's lack of proactive communication regarding the patio closure, this would likely have been a much higher-rated experience. Unfortunately, the service and overall experience fell short of what we expected for such a special occasion.

Pea Soup Andersen's Inn was the first hotel we booked on a Friday during Memorial Day weekend. It was super cheap even during a holiday weekend! The hotel is located right off the freeway near many food options and a grocery store. And just minutes away from Solvang at a fraction of the cost! The rooms were spacious and very clean. Our first night, the room had a "balcony" sliding glass door that exited into the courtyard where they have a pool, jacuzzi, putting green and a few other activities. The gazebo has coffee, tea, juice and pastries in the mornings for breakfast. The staff here is so friendly! You can see them walking around the property either cleaning, fixing something or just making sure the guests are enjoying their stay! We will absolutely be returning on our next road trip!

This place would have been a 5 star review if not for the paper thin walls. The walls were so thin and it made for such a horrible nights sleep. We heard the neighboring room vomit and use the bathroom in the middle of the night, pack their bags in the morning and the rustling of plastic bags, and we heard every phone alarm in our vicinity go off in the morning. We also heard the cleaning staff come in to clean the neighboring room in the morning. All this excess noise is even after we closed all the windows.

I am going to let you in on a little secret…read more... Yeah, I'm going to share with you what i THINK is the best kind of getaway, well, at least in my humble opinion. It's the kind that doesn't abruptly end, but it just sort of.... keeps on going. Let me explain. Have you ever gone on vacation and said to yourself, or to your spouse or even to your kids.... "Gee, I could have really used one more night" Or Let out the exaggerated (Ughh)... "I don't want to go back to work tomorrow, I wish we could just extend our trip by just one more day" Well... On a recent trip with my family, We INTENTIONALLY did just that. My wife booked us a 2 night stay in Paso Robles at a beautiful boutique style/chain hotel. (The Ava Hotel in Paso) (Check out my review for the deets) Usually, when we do these short, weekend trips, I work up until the day of our trip and then go back the very next day once we return... But, NOT THIS TIME! Yeah, This time, my wife intentionally told me, let's book one more night on the way home from our trip in Paso just to break up the drive home and enjoy one more day off of work and time with the fam. Heck, I've got loads of PTO and who wants to be at work anyway, so it wasn't too hard to twist my arm on this one. And just like that.... Solvang, Here we Come! Yes, the cute, quaint town of Solvang is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway or even just for a one night stay like we did. Of course, my wife, the Queen of finding the best places to stay/eat... (AND I AM THE ONE WHO IS THE "ELITE" haha) booked us a room at the Landsby hotel and it was nothing short of a treat. Here's why: The Landsby is more than just a room... Inside of a hotel... Located in the heart of this Danish town known as: SOLVANG It wasn't just, "let's build a hotel where the people can stay and explore the town while they are here". At least that's not the impression it gave me! Instead, The Landsby has a Charm about, it has Character and most of all it gives you the impression that you are in a modern-day Dutch village. But one of my favorite parts.... The Room Key, keyword, "KEY" Yeah! The room key is an actual Key!!! A metal, lock and key, just like the good 'ol days! Ain't no digital, pre-programmed, modern day, technologically advanced system like every other hotel does it.... And I liked it! And to match the old school style key... The t.v is in black and white, the internet is run on dial up and the telephone is a rotary dial..... JUST KIDDING!!!! But wouldn't that be cool! Aside from the small town European vibe that the exterior of the building gives you, once you step inside both the hotel and then your room, you are immediately transported to a place that feels welcoming, familiar and most of all comfortable. Because this was a short stay (just a one nighter) we didn't take advantage of the amenities like we normally do, but next time we will. A lobby bar (our favorite place to check out), an onsite restaurant (Mad & Vin which loos really good), an outdoor courtyard to sit and relax, and complimentary cruiser bikes to explore the town. The Landsby is Pet friendly, so definitely check out their webpage for details for your furry friends. So....... Now that I've let you in on my little secret, I don't want you to keep it that way! Spread the word! Pass it along! Tell a friend! Come check out the Landsby in Solvang!!

The location couldn't be better, right in the heart of town and close to everything. My only downside was a very loud neighbor that disrupted my first night. Overall, I'm really glad I stayed here and would absolutely come back for another Solvang trip.
