The front desk staff at this Marriott hotel was fantastic, but the rooms were extremely dirty. Upon entering our room, we found two beer cans. One was inside, near the bed next to the balcony door, and the other was outside on the balcony, next to a small pile of cigarette butts. The sofa had a large dark stain with what looked like chocolate shavings. In the bathroom, fresh towels were placed on top of an exposed dirty pipe in one of the cubbies under the sink vanity. I'm curious to know why there are any exposed pipes in the first place. I'm sure having exposed pipes violates multiple city and health codes. One unique thing I noticed at this Marriott hotel was that the room had Febreze Car Clip Air Fresheners attached to the AC vents. I've never seen this at any other hotel. I'm not sure if this is standard practice at this hotel or if it was added to this particular room because the previous guest smoked in it. I emailed the hotel general manager, never received a reply or courtesy call. This is not what we expected from a reputable brand like Marriott. read more

We stayed for several nights while driving around the area and it was conveniently located between the wineries and the busy streets of Solvang. The hotel was pretty clean and the room offered a microwave and fridge. The bathroom was also spacious. There was a gym upstairs and we used it a few times. There were a handful of treadmills and weights. Pretty standard gym amenities. The gym was really clean and they even had fruit and water available in there! If I'm ever in the area again, I would stay again. read more

I picked this hotel for my birthday weekend in Solvang. I am loyal to Marriott properties and was trying to avoid the boutique spots in Solvang, so this was nice. The general hotel is nice and I liked how easy parking was. They have a cafe area that looks to serve breakfast in the morning and then turn into a bar at night. They have water fill stations throughout, which was also nice. There is a small shop with necessities you might forget, but a lot of stuff was sold out when I walked through. Unfortunately, the 3rd floor hallway we were in had terrible insulation/sound proofing so every door that opened, closed, slammed, every voice, etc felt like it was in the room. The A/C was also really loud when it was on and made a ticking sound. Since it was over 100 degrees while we were there, then A/C was necessary. Housekeeping started vacuuming right against our door at 9am, and since the soundproofing is poor, it honestly sounded like our door was open. They also had one elevator that was not working. I did appreciate that they accommodated a 1 hour later check-out for us but I guess the front desk does not apprise housekeeping about that because she knocked at 9:45am even though regular checkout is at 11 and the privacy placard was on the door. Maybe not housekeeping's fault, they might have been told something incorrectly. All in all, I wanted to like this place and the room itself was clean and what we needed, but I am not sure I would come back due to how loud everything was and how it affected our privacy and sleep. read more

The rooms were clean, modern, and really comfortable. Bed was comfy too, which is huge when you're doing a lot of walking in Solvang or Los Olivos. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Check-in was very quick. Parking was plentiful throughout the property. The location is perfect too, right in Buellton, so you're close to Solvang, Los Olivos and wineries. Plus, there's a nice little lobby bar if you want a drink without having to Uber anywhere. This is a must stay here when you are taking a trip to Solvang. read more

Stayed here for business. The location is great and convenient. It's situated where it's quiet enough to enjoy morning walks. There are a few gas stations and food locations just down the street. Solvang is about 10-15mins from the hotel, so for those who are looking to stay by Solvang but don't like the crowd, this place would be perfect. They do not have a microwave in the room, but there's one all guests can use at the lobby inside the convenience store. The hotel's convenient store is probably one of the best I've seen. They have essentials, enacks, desserts to merchandise. I took a photo of the menu they had during the time of my stay, which was just a few weeks ago. Housekeeping is by request or, as I was told, during the 3rd day of your stay. I ran out of coffee essentials, so I requested some, but due to staffing, I never got one. I waited the entire afternoon til night time, and the front desk I was talking to assured me that housekeeping was aware. I checked the next morning, but still none. With the change of shifts, I spoke to a different agent. She was kind enough to do it herself. The bathroom is spacious. It had the handheld shower, which was nice. The elevator was confusing at first. The gym is on the ground floor. They had a water station, a locker (yes, not just a restroom but an actual locker room), a fruit basket, sanitizing wipes, and towels for use. We were attending a nonprofit gala at the Marriott and stayed the night so we didn't have to drive after. The room was a great size with a nice seating area, mini fridge and patio. We were welcomed with my name in the screen and a bottle of wine with a note - such a nice touch! They have a restaurant and bar, as well as a Starbucks. You can also order room service which had great prices! The event space was really nice too. The pool and hot tub looked welcoming and the have a pickle ball court. We are Marriott hotel lovers but this one yikes! Definitely not up to the standards we are used too. The front desk and staff were very nice and friendly but the rooms were surely subpar. The lampshades had stains on them, the furniture was chipped and some of cabinets looked like soda or something was splashed on it. Outside of the room it was even worse the balcony was dirty obviously hadn't been cleaned in sometime. The grounds were tired, patio cracked , cushions either missing or dirty, by the pool there were down poles which I guess held party lites. It's not like this is a discount hotel. We were here for wedding and were expecting something much nicer. The gym was nice, the reception area and bar nice but outside of that... they need a lot of work. Let's face it when you find a good spot to stay and eat you always come back. We often visit the Lompoc/buellton/Solvang area we stay here. The staff is always nice and friendly here. I don't plan to return to this hotel as we saw many dogs and some were over the weight limit allowed by Marriott's. We will not stay at a hotel that allows dogs as we prefer a Clean hotel and there's no way with carpet in the rooms that it's clean with pets Additionally this Marriott Hotel has no concierge lounge for the upper loyalty tiers. You are give. 2 breakfast coupons but I wasn't excited about that because the breakfast reviews I saw were not good and said there was only 1 person handling breakfast orders and it was not sufficient. I plan to go elsewhere The toilet in our room 308 doesn't want to flush. It needs service. The room furniture Marriott is now using looks like cheap IKEA furniture. The check in process went smoothly and the guy who helped me was great and very helpful. Also the elevator on the west side nearly closed on my arm. Someone got out and i. reached in to have the doors stay open and it literally closed up on my arm and I had to pull my s out quick as it slammed shut. This is a safety hazard. We had requested a pack n play. Which most Marriott's provide. Well someone came to the door with an antique metal crib. Not a pack n play. So we refused it. We won't he back. This hotel feels dated. Elevators need servicing. Toilet needs servicing. And the hotel has been turned into a dog kennel. That's a deal breaker for us. read more

Stayed here for our holiday trip up to Solvang. Conveniently located next to the highway and has local access to grocery stores, gas stations and quick service food options with some really great local spots. Staff were friendly and it was pretty fast to check in/check out. Parking was decent and never really had to go too far to find a spot. Overall the hotel was clean and cared for both inside and outside. Looked like it had a great bar/restaurant but didn't get a chance to go. Same with the pool, our room was directly over it and I could see people enjoying it throughout the day. The room was clean and kept up, no damage or ware that I could see. Also good sound rating as we never heard people in the pool or our neighbors. Big drawback to the room was it had no microwave so you have to go to the lobby to access one. The ice machine was also on the other side of the hotel through the lobby which was a bit inconvenient. If I could I would give this a 3.5 but there was a lot more positive than negative so the 4 is warranted. read more

Located in Buellton, the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott is located near the Firestone Brewery. Parking is free around the property and they have Tesla charging stations. The lobby has a restaurant and bar area with cozy fire pit seating on the terrace behind. It's just about a ten minute drive over to neighboring Solvang and Los Olivos. Perfect spot for enjoying wine country and nearby activities without being right in the center of it. We were in a room overlooking the terrace area. You can't really enjoy and leave your window open unless you want to hear the loud sound of the cars rushing by. Also a decent amount of hallway noise and sounds from neighboring rooms. The beds didn't feel like your typical Marriott quality beds. A little squishier than usual! But the rooms did look modern and newly refreshed which was nice. read more

We have been coming to this hotel for several years for weekend vacations and as a stop over on road trips. We like this hotel the best of the various options in and around Solvang, except perhaps for Hadstead House, which has been closed for renovations for some time. Prices fluctuate, but when they have a good deal we stay here. All the prices are generally lower in and around Solvang during the off season (roughly Nov-Feb/March, except around the holidays). If u stay here then u will need to drive into Solvang, but it is not far. Just beware of the speed change on the stretch between Buelton and Solvang lined with the trees as it is a speed trap. Officers especially ticket people coming back from Solvang into Buelton as the speed drops at the end of the trees just before town. However, u r also much closer to the freeway here than if u stay in Solvang, so it is much more convenient if u go hiking or to the nearby beaches during ur stay or if u want to leave fast on a layover on ur road trip. There are many fast food places close by and the only major market (Albertsons) is also close. McDonalds is within walking distance. U probably won't want to go to these unless u r trying to save money or are in a hurry or just passing thru over night because there are many good local places for breakfast, both in Buelton abd Solvang. There are also good places for lunch and dinner too. The Marriott has greatly expanded its Tesla charging stations in the lot if u drive EV. The rooms are of good quality, mattresses are good, staff is nice, and parking is always available in the back if the premium spaces in the front are full. Once there was some sort of serious crime incident at this location with LOTS of police cars, but that ONLY only happened ONCE over several years and is to be expected occasionally in a resort/vacation town. Overall, this is a great place to stay. Watch for good prices and plan ur visit . read more

1. The room was not clean. Found trash both on the floor and in the trash can upon entering. Such much for having a clean room. 2. The door privacy door latch stuck and upon further inspection, it wasn't the first time as the door frame had screws on just on that side of the door frame suggesting something similar had occurred before. 3. No sense of privacy and confidentially when the front desk agent revealed our identity to other guests when our dog was barking a lot. Our dog doesn't usually bark unless people start knocking at the door and even slipping notes. So we do apologize for the barking but the dog was provoked all the more. However, it is TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL for the agent to reveal us. An official complaint will be submitted. read more

I had to cancel my reservation due to testing positive for COVID-19, which was completely out of my control. I contacted the 3rd party website Hotels.com where I booked my room and they tried contacting Santa Ynez Valley Marriott immediately to explain the situation and request a refund or at least a credit for future use, but they refused to issue a full refund. I then tried contacting Marriott directly but never got a response back. While I understand cancellation policies, I was hoping for some flexibility given the circumstances. Other hotels I've dealt with during the pandemic and even outside of the pandemic have shown much more understanding and willingness to accommodate guests in similar situations. As you know every penny counts now a days with this financial climate and loosing $738.12 is a big blow. I was willing to get a partial refund back as well but was ignored. This experience left me very disappointed, and I will not be booking here again. I recommend potential guests be cautious if unforeseen circumstances arise, as the customer service may not be as accommodating as you'd hope. read more

Apparently being a lifetime status at Marriott doesn't mean anything to the employees here. Every single time I try to utilize this property when I'm in the area, the employees always force me to wait until 4:01 to check in. I have never been allowed even 10 minutes early check-in. It's like some kind of weird power Trip. I hope they feel very powerful. This last time was the last straw even though I like the property. I'm just so sick of it. The guy actually told me that there was a delay because the cleaning staff was in a meeting. I find that really hard to believe that they would hold a meeting at 3:00 p.m. and not have cleaned the rooms already. That seems prime time right before check-in. Basically the guy was lying. I guess I'll complain and write a letter to Marriott. No one will care. This is the only Marriott in the area so they have the market cornered why should they care about lifetime status members?. read more

I've been a Marriott member for over 12 years at the gold or platinum level that entire time. I've been to dozens of hotels across the country and this one is probably the worst experience I've had. I made a reservation requesting a room with a bathtub. I didn't get it and when I asked at check in, the front desk blew me off and said that none were available and ask in the morning. I don't believe that. I know plenty of people who worked at hotels and Marriott. I don't make a lot of requests. I didn't want to deal with changing rooms and moving everything so I just forgot about it. The room and hotel decor is old and out of date. They need to renovate and upgrade the inside. The carpet is pretty worn out throughout the entire entire hotel. The room was ok but the pillows and comforter were older and full of dust. They don't offer room service or regular cleaning during Covid and that was ok with me. The towels are small and flimsy. I thought they had pretty limited tv channels for a hotel at this level. I was out most of the day but these little things added up. I had a drink at the bar and the service there was great. That's the good part of the experience. The property has free parking and is right off of the freeway and in a good location. Otherwise there's not much to say. At check out, the mobile app wasn't working and I was going to go to the desk to check out quickly. One person was being served and the other staff were standing there talking to each other as I waited. I just left and sent a message through the app and got no response. Most of the time the front staff were wearing masks below their noses even though they have signs saying mandatory masks. The front desk wasn't helpful at all. I called later in the day to make sure my checkout was closed and ok. They didn't send an email or anything on the app which said the reservation was still open. They said it was closed and they would send an email with the final bill. I never got one. I would recommend this place for a quick overnight stay on a road trip. It's probably ok for you if your work is going to pay for it. I was going to stay 3 nights, but after checking in, I quickly decided to cancel the third night. It's just not a comfortable or relaxing hotel to stay that long. I used my reward certificates for this stay and I'm glad I did. It's good for that but I still left feeling disappointed. This place is a convenient stay. My parents and I had the King suite, which was very spacious and comfortable for three adults. The king bed was in a separate space that had a sliding wooden door (as opposed to the glass one pictured) and that space also had its own closet and TV. In the common area, there was an additional closet, TV, a desk and chair and the sofa bed. The bathroom was spacious with two sinks, a counter top mirror and a full length mirror, with a spacious shower as well. There is also daily housekeeping, which many other hotels seemed to abandon after COVID. This hotel also offers a bar/lounge area that is quite lively at night. They offer a full bar and a menu with some food options for different tastes. The upstairs room hallway is an open, which allows you to see down into the lounge. That may account for other reviewers saying they smelled food in the hallway. I will say that the smell did not carry into our room. There is an expansive outdoor patio with chairs and sofas, fire pits and games (cornhole, chess, connect four). And on Fridays they host wine samples and charcuterie from 4-6. The area is close to eateries and a very short drive to Solvang and multiple tasting rooms. However, many aspects of the hotel need a lot of TLC. The grounds are not well maintained at all. Walls and the grounds are dirty and unkempt. The landscaping is neglected. Glass doors are not regularly cleaned. Even in the rooms themselves, the sliding glass doors are smudged. There was a broken light in our room. The sofa bed mattress was a thin box spring that creaked and offered minimal comfort. While a very convenient location , there is also lots to improve. read more

Super awesome weekend stay at this Spanish colonial style property by Marriott. Location: Situated in a little town of Buellton, it's about 10 min drive to Solvang and slightly more to the various vineyards and wineries in the area. Staff: Entire staff is great, and Liz at the front desk is extremely awesome and nice! Thank you for taking care of us! Property: I really like the outdoor fire pits (I think there were three). Perfect for hanging out at night while sipping on a few drinks! The common area also had ample amount of seating, and it's nicely laid out for you to catch a game or just chit chat with your family/friends. The suite was very clean and spacious. We stayed at the Santa Ynez Marriott overnight on the way back from the Bay Area. I've stayed at this Marriott before when I first joined the Marriott rewards program and was gold elite. This time I came back as Platinum Elite. Check in was quick and easy. They gave us a room on the 3rd floor with a balcony and a view of the back of the hotel and the freeway. Because this was only our second stay here, it was not apparent to me if we were upgraded or not. Our room seemed better than the room they gave us several years ago, but, not by much. The room that we were given was minimally clean. The housekeeping staff only do work that seems obvious like fix the bed, empty trash cans, and clean up the bathroom. They do not look for trash by the nightstand, or do any dusting or cleaning of surfaces. Because of COVID, we clean almost all surfaces with Clorox wipes prior to settling in. Out of all the hotels we have recently stayed in, this hotel got our Clorox wipes the dirtiest after wiping down cabinets, nightstands and other surfaces. I found a large black unknown paper object next to the nightstand. It could've been a napkin. I don't know. Housekeeping does an unacceptable job. We made good use of our own Clorox wipes as the hotel did not provide us with any. I ordered some extra towels, but, it took forever for housekeeping to deliver it. As a platinum elite, complimentary breakfast is available downstairs in the Starting Gate Restaurant. It is a lot better than the gold elite breakfast a few doors down at McDonalds. The breakfast was the winner. The view was nice, if you didn't focus on the freeway. This Marriott was a little rough. Housekeeping has their problems. WORST MARRIOTT EVER. Rooms were dirty: 1. First room wasn't cleaned when we arrived. Large clump of tangled hair in shower drain, crumbs on floor, dead bugs in large light fixture, potato chip crumbs in bed. 2. Second room was better but still dirty. Crumbs on floor, dried booger stuck on sink. Dilapidated: This Marriott needs some TLC. Peeling wallpaper, mold behind exposed wallpaper by ice machine, microwave in lobby not working, AC was not working when we arrived, tv throughout entire Marriott was out our last night. Front desk lady gives you attitude, no 'thank you's', not even a smile. Restaurant staff were super friendly and provided great customer service. Andres was super kind. Young black man who worked as room cleaner was super kind and went above and beyond. The cleaning person for our room never showed up and we walked into our uncleaned room after the first day of exploring. He happened to be across the hall cleaning another room. I assumed it was him and asked if we were next and he said our room wasn't on his list, but to give him a few minutes and he would clean it. He, along with another lady who happened to be vacuuming the hall both cleaned our room, though it wasn't their responsibility. Great Marriott! Lobby and stay were very nice. I was only there for a quick overnight stay so wasn't able to experience the onsite amenities but wish I did. A few cons: saw a few stray hairs in the bathroom upon first walking into the room in very obvious places (on top of the toilet, in the tub, sink), which was less than ideal. Also at about 11pm there was a small dog barking in a nearby room - I had no idea Marriott (let alone one that charges $300+/night) allowed dogs. But I do assume this was a "service dog" that slid under the radar and gave away it's lack of training (certificate?) by constantly barking. Bed was by far one of the least comfortable I've had at a Marriott in awhile. I also know hotels in this area are minimal and I would absolutely return, but hope for less random hair in the bathroom! :D read more

We had 4 adults, a kiddo and a dog and so driving up from LA and back wasn't really going to be an option and my preferred Airbnb just wasn't going to accommodate all of us and I wasn't going to stay at any of the motels in Solvang. I might as well earn some Bonvoy points and booked an overnight stay at the Marriott here. We took our time to get there so we didn't need an early check-in. I think there was a convention or something because parking was pretty hard to come by in their lot (a sizable portion of their lot was converted into Tesla supercharge stations.) They did say you could park in the parking lot of the former movie theater but it's not the most convenient; there's no direct connection from one to the other. The staff was friendly and had no issues with check-in. Our rooms weren't next door to each other but across the hall. However, as I mentioned previously, we had a dog and a kid with us and we were assigned rooms at the end of the wing with no way to exit besides walking back through to the lobby. If it was just me I wouldn't have minded but it definitely made it a little more difficult to manage. The room was nice, it was updated and didn't look or feel old but the balcony sure did, we definitely avoided that. When I checked in I made sure to mention I had a dog-which meant a charge but also some other extra dog related items. No charge was mentioned and nothing was given to me. I called and walked to the front desk to make sure I got them. When I checked out, there was no line item but was added later; which confused me a little-why the required notice? I definitely wasn't hiding him either, I walked in and out with my dog and staff saw. Overall, it's a cut above the other options in the area but there was enough issues to not rate it higher. read more

No complimentary breakfast, this whole "breakfast" was about $16 charged to my room. I ordered the cereal with banana with orange juice and a yogurt parfait. When I got to my room I didn't have the banana so I went back down to get it and the host/waitress says they actually don't have banana (Okay? She should have told me in the first place so I won't have to come back down). I back to my room to eat my parfait and the yogurt taste so sour/rancid. Not sure if that's the taste of their yogurt or if it had gone bad but I'm 7 month pregnant and it's better to play it safe so I had to go back down again, return the parfait and have it taken off my bill. Pretty disappointing and frustrating. I was looking forward to having a quick nice breakfast before starting work and well that went south. The place itself is beautiful from far away but you can see the flaws up close. Letters are missing on doors, outside, inside...just tacky and cheap looking. We are avid Marriott users and loyal to the brand. The location of this hotel was excellent as the lobby, restaurant and bar very nice. We did have a few issues with the room and Honey, the manager at the front desk listened and handled the issues with professional and outstanding customer service. This location like many of the other Marriott locations is getting ready for a renovation and the manner in which Honey explained the challenges with labor issues and training as well as the older infrastructure was quite professional. I thank Honey and the staff for making our stay pleasant and attending to the issues discussed. I highly recommend this hotel and ask for Honey as the name fits her amazing personality. Pains me to write this as this was once my favorite place to stay when we come to Santa Ynez. The staff are all great and very accommodating so check that box. The issue is the lack of cleanliness. From the room to the restrooms in the lobby. Holy hell. Our room had a stained (looked like blood) comforter cover, stains on the floor, dirty counter tops and the lockout / connector door to the room next to us didn't lock. We didn't know that until the guest next door opened their door and ours flew open. We then realized why the sort of chair which is typically in the corner of the room was placed in front of the connector door. The hotel needs: better housekeeping standards / follow up. I was so stoked to be on my first vacation since COVID. Even more stoked to bring my friend who had never stayed at a Marriott. First interaction with the front desk was rough. They seemed tense and not happy. We were a little early and there were no early check ins available, so we asked if we could use the hot tub since that was the main reason we booked this hotel over others in the area. The desk person seemed annoyed that they even had to deal with us. We weren't told where the pool was, or that we needed our keys to get towels and everything. We also weren't told the hot tub wasn't hot. We learned from another guest the heater to the pools was broken. Unfortunately these guests also booked for the hot tub over other properties that didn't have one, and they were lookin at options to switch hotels. The rooms are outdated and barely cleaned. No room service (OK with us-- we never ask for it and were only staying one night). The patio outside of the sliding glass door was atrocious. The patio furniture was so dirty you didn't want to touch it, and there was old food and garbage everywhere. The walls were paper thin. We could hear water running or dripping from somewhere in the walls and it kept my friend up all night. We left to more grumpy front desk people. We couldn't wait to get out of there. I was legit embarrassed as a host who brought a friend for her first Marriott experience. I begged her to believe me this wasn't how it was supposed to be. Luckily we had some better experiences with other Marriotts we stayed at over the week vacation, so she got to see what I was talking about. Overall, this wasn't at all a Marriott experience. Which is fine, if you want to charge Days Inn price for Days Inn level experience, but that is not happening. You're paying Marriott prices, and getting a La Quinta experience ... even if that. Great hotel near Buellton, Solvang and Santa Barbara as well as Los Olivos and Santa Ynez serving tourists and conventions attendees et al. The place is super clean and new looking with attractive art decor and spacious rooms and outdoor seating. The entrance foyer is nice and inviting. The bar is big and well stocked. I liked the outdoor art decor with statues of stallion and a horseman and the blue swimming pool. It's conveniently near the Tesla supercharger. read more
